SUICIDAL SWEAT
An addictive high intensity work out that combines cardio
step, kickboxing, strength and resistance training and floor

ZUMBA
Zumba uses a variety of dances in its routines including:
meringue, salsa, mambo, rumba, and flamenco. Zumba
uses interval training and a combination of fast and slow
rhythms to help burn a maximum amount of calories

The basics of battling ropes can be broken down into
three main categories: the velocity or wave method.

SENIOR PROGRAM 59+
The “NEW” senior program at the Y offers a variety of
opportunities for social interaction and fun. Activities
such as day trips, picnics, lunch & scrabble, and walks are
planned and offered to seniors. Day trips include going
to the Cleveland Casino, Festival of lights and dinner,
Aurora outlet mall, Cuyahoga Rails Excursions & Wine
tasting outings.
We are open to suggestions for other day trips as well.
Cost for each trip varies, dates and prices on separate
brochure at the YMCA front desk. Trips must have a
minimum of 8 participants. 13 participants max. Register
at the front desk today!
Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland - Day Trip
Friday, January 25th 9am-5pm
The bus will leave the YMCA at 9am on Friday, January
25th and head up to the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland.
Lunch at the The Spread Buffet included in cost. Bus will
return at 5pm. Cost includes travel & lunch.

WATER FITNESS
NEW: Aqua Zumba M 5:30 pm or F 12:00 pm
Aqua Zumba gives meaning to the idea of an
invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting
and even maybe some shouting, laughing, hooting and
hollering are often heard. This class integrates Zumba
formula with aqua fitness. This water-based workout
offers cardio-conditioning, body-toning and most of all
exhilarating fun!
HydroDynamic: T/W 5:00pm
Hydrodynamics class is a aquatics fitness class that is
interval training for a total body workout. Aided by fastpaced background music, participants engage in cardio
fitness training and strengthening to condition and
tome musculature. Belts, cropped flippers, kickboards
and weights are incorporated for resistance. The Y will
provide all equipment.
Aquacise: MWF 9:00 am
Aquacise class is an intense aerobic aquatics class in
the shallow end of the pool. All major muscle groups
are utilized. Interval, circuit training, plyometrics and
choreography and motivating music are all part of
this class!
AquaJog: MWF 9:15 am
Aqua Jog is a high intensity workout with no impact.
This class is held in the deep water with flotation belts
worn as support. You need to be comfortable in deep
water. Water resistance helps to tone and strengthen
muscles while burning calories. The floatation
belts are provided by the Y and are required
for this class.

Splash Class is a low/moderate intensity class designed
for improving flexibility while toning, strengthening and
improving the function of the heart and lungs.

Indoor Soccer League
The YMCA youth indoor soccer league is about
to begin again. This is a league that offers fitness
activity and motor skill development. Teams
compete in order to outscore each other in goals
during this game. The league is for boys and girls
Pre-School (4 years of age ) thru 2nd Grade. All
games will be played at the YMCA of Wooster.

Pee-Wee Sports
Pee-wee sports is a program designed to get kids
up and be active. Every Tuesday and Thursday for
a month, kids will play and learn several different
sports and games designed to have fun and work
on skill development. Examples of what will be
covered include baseball, basketball, kickball,
dancing, karate, and much more. If your child
loves to be active, this program is for you. For ages
4 to 10.

Adult Dodgeball League
Adult Dodgeball is back at the YMCA of
Wooster. Come and get your dodge on as you
play against tough competition. We use official
intramural dodgeball rules. Games are played
on Friday evenings at the YMCA. Ages 16 and
up. Games will begin at 5:30, and be a best out
of 3 matches format.

Tee-Ball and Coaches Pitch
Children ages 5 & 6 will play Tee-ball and work on
learning the basics of playing baseball. Coaches pitch is
for ages 7-9 and will also learn the basics of playing. We
will emphasize learning to play the right way but having
fun while doing it. Games will be played at Parkview
Elementary on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Games will start at 6:00 pm.

YMCA of Wooster Healthy Kids Day Race
The Healthy Kids Day Race at Oak Hill Park is a race
designed to get both kids and parents involved.
Come and enjoy the nice weather and the 1 Mile run
through the park. Age groups are 4-6, 7-8, 9-11, and
12-14. After the race is over, medals will be presented
for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. Following the
race, head down to the YMCA of Wooster for the rest
of the Healthy Kids Day activities.

YMCA of Wooster Youth Basketball League
The YMCA youth basketball league is back this
spring! The league is for kids pre-school-1st, 2nd4th, and 5th-7th. This leagues is for both new and
experienced players. We place a high emphasis on
skill development and learning to play the right
way. A skills assessment will take place on March
2nd, with the league beginning on March 9th.

Youth and Adult Karate
Awase-Kenpo Karate-Do literally means “Combined Fist
Methods and the Way of the Empty Hand.” Students
in this program learn kata, sparring, self-defense,
and techniques including blocks, punches, kicks, and
breakfalls. Students progress through 10 colored or “kyu”
ranks before testing for black belt. 16 classes in 8 Weeks.
Classes are on Tuesday & Thursday Nights. Youth karate
ages 5-12 at 6:30 pm and Adults 13 and up at 7:30 pm.

Adult Volleyball League
Come Join The Fun!!! This is a semi to competitive
volleyball league. Some players will have had some
organized experience, but most people playing in
this league will be of recreational background. All
Churches, companies, friends, and families are invited
to join this league. Fee: $165 per team

Y-Ball High School Basketball League
Games played on Saturdays@ YMCA Woodland Facility.
All games are officiated. Minimum of 8 players on a

roster maximum of 15. Every team must have an adult
coach present over the age of 21 years of age. Teams are
required to provide shirts with numbers on the back.
N0 TAPE. TEAM NAMES CAN BE CREATIVE, BUT NEED
TO BE TASTEFUL. All players MUST be enrolled in high
school full time and CAN NOT be currently playing for
their high school team.
Fee: $315 per team
Date: League begins January 5th– February 23rd

PROGRESSIVE (Ages 6 – 16)
POLLIWOG
POLLIWOG is for children with no previous
experience and /or hesitancy in the water. Children
will learn alternating arm stokes and flutter kick using
kick boards while covering a distance of 10-15 yards.
They will also be introduced to paddling and kicking
on their back. The curriculum includes bubble
blowing, putting entire face in the water, bobbing
and an introduction to floating both on front and
back. Tues/Thurs 6:00 pm
PARENT/CHILD (Ages 6-35 months)
The purpose of Parent and Child swimming lessons
is to make both parents and children comfortable in
the water. The child learns about a new environment,
while the parent learns how to teach the child to be
safe in the water. Classes are designed so the child
has fun while the parent urges the child to respond to
simple commands that pertain to basic aquatic skills.

GUPPY
GUPPY focuses on rotary breathing. The freestyle
and backstroke stokes are refined. Concentration
is on endurance and strength to accomplish
swimming 25 yards on the front and back. By
the end of GUPPY, students must be able to swim
25 yards of freestyle demonstrating rhythmic
breathing and 25 yards of backstroke in order to
advance to MINNOW. Tues/Thurs 6:00 pm
PRESCHOOL LESSONS (Ages 3 to 5)
PIKE
PIKE is for children who are new to swimming lessons
and are ready to take class without their parent. They
will learn alternating kicking, blowing bubbles, and
alternating arm motion. Emphasis will be on putting
their faces in the water.

MINNOW
MINNOW level students must be able to swim front
crawl and backstroke 25 yards without stopping.
Concentration is on front crawl with coordinated
freestyle and rotary breathing. In this level, students
must have very good freestyle and backstroke because
they will be swimming up to 50 yards continuously.
They will be introduced to breaststroke and using
symmetrical arms, which is one of the competitive
strokes. In order to move up to FISH, the child must
be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, 50 yards of
backstroke, and 25 yards of breaststroke.

AQUATICS
EEL
EEL’s are working on swimming independently at
least five feet on their front and back in a horizontal
position. The child should be comfortable submerging
underwater. This class concentrates on back floating
independently and kicking on back while swimming.
Sitting dives and diving safety are introduced. In order
to move up to RAY a child must be able to swim 15 feet
by themselves both on their front and back.

RAY
RAY is for students who have experience swimming
and taking lessons. They can swim 15 feet in prone
position with face in the water, and are able to begin
freestyle while swimming the front crawl, and back
float independently. Rotary breathing is introduced
and emphasized. Diving, elementary backstroke, and
survival skills are introduced at this level. In order to
move up to STARFISH a child must be able to swim on
length of the pool (25 feet) on both their front and back.

STARFISH
STARFISH is for children who can swim 25 feet
with their face in the water independently. Rotary
breathing is strongly emphasized, as is a continued

FISH
In FISH level there is continued stoke development of
freestyle, back crawl and breaststroke. Children begin
to learn butterfly and flip turns. Emphasis is on stroke
refinement and building endurance. The child must
be able to swim 75 yards of freestyle. Backstroke, and
breaststroke and 25 yards of dolphin kick (15 feet of
butterfly) in order to progress to flying fish. Tues/

FLYING FISH
Students with a very strong swimming ability may
enroll in FLYING FISH. This class is for experienced
swimmers who are able to swim freestyle with rotary
breathing and proper backstroke for 75 – 100 yards
continuously. The breaststroke will be refined as well
as a continued introduction to butterfly, the final of the
competitive strokes. Instructors will also teach diving
and flip turns for freestyle. Tues/Thur 6:00 pm
HOMESCHOOL LESSONS

LUK LAUNCH PAD DAYCARE
three infant rooms and two toddler rooms. The children
are grouped by age to help meet their needs at each
stage of their development. A daily report will be given
to parents upon departure.
Gross Motor Play - There is a large muscle room
for the children to utilize in inclement weather and
at scheduled times throughout the day. An outside
playground is also available. This area includes several
climbing units, area for bikes and open areas to run
and play.
Staffing - The state sets up specific guidelines that all staff
must meet. In addition, the YMCA focuses on four core
values - CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY.
When hiring we look for individuals that will support
our values and will provide a loving, safe, nurturing and
educational environment for the children. There are trained
staff in First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease and Child
Abuse on site at all times.
Ages - The facility will accommodate age 6 weeks to 5
years, as well as school age K - 6th Grades.
Meals - Children that are able to eat table food will
be provided with two meals and one snack each day:
breakfast, lunch and snack. The LuK Cafe will prepare
lunch. Each meal will meet the requirements set forth
by the state.
Infant/Toddler Meals - Children using bottles and
eating baby food will need to have their formula and
food provided by parents. The center staff will be able
to warm bottles and food if needed.
Rest Time - The center will provide each child a crib or
cot for rest time. All cribs and cots will be labeled with the
child’s name. Sheets will be provided by the center.
The Preschool - The center will provide a learning
program for children in the preschool years during the
morning hours. The program will be planned by using
themes, objectives and evaluations. We have three
preschool rooms: A room for young three (3 year old
room); a room for older threes and young fours (4 year
old room); and a room for older fours and young fives
(5year old room).
Infants/Toddlers - Children from infancy through the
toddler years will also be challenged in a variety of
activities to assist in their developmental needs. We have
License - The center is licensed through the Ohio
Department of Job and Family Services.
Cleanliness - As a center and staff we will also
be committed to provide a clean and organized
environment. Cleanliness does not mean children
cannot have some messy fun. We will provide all types of
learning experiences, even messy ones!!

PLAY & LEARN TUESDAYS

Learn and grow together through play.
At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early
on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future
success. Play & Learn is a parent & child program designed
to support early childhood development. We invite
families, friends and neighbors and their children, from
birth to 5-years, to come eat, play, create, and explore
together. Play & Learn helps pre-schoolers improve their
cognitive skills and develop positive relationship skills
through playful activities. Parent/guardian and child
engage it activities such as:
Lunch with the LAW -Come have lunch with members of
our local law enforcement, see their police cars and ask
all the questions you want. Be sure to bring a camera to
take pictures of this special moment. All children must be
accompanied by an adult.
LEGO Building Projects- Come have lunch and
participate in Lego design competitions. Build and race
a Lego Car, Float a Lego Boat, have fun building with
your kids!!
My First Field Trips- Enjoy a short bus trip to Dominoes
Pizza where the kids and parents will learn how to make
their own pizza and have lunch. All children must be
accompanied by an adult.
Dance/Gymnastics- Let’s get down and boogie! Come
dance to Steve & Greg’s Freeze Dance, Hokey Pokey,
Listen & Move and much more. Also join us for Tumble &
lunch as we learn from Miss Christy how to do gymnastics
tumble and enjoy a healthy lunch together.
Story-time- Come enjoy story time with Miss Lori
(preschool teacher & director) and have a lunch that goes
with our story like…”If you give a Pig and a Pancake” or
“Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs”.
Interactive Games- Enjoy a lunch and interactive game of
Candyland, built to suit adults and kids alike!! And more

The Spot! offers a different and unique alternative
to your basic after school program. The Spot! offers
tutoring and mentoring through College of Wooster
volunteers who are there to assist your youth. With
The Spot! being focused on educational & self
improvements, we also have numerous youth and
teen programs available to its members. The programs
offered from The Spot! promote the YMCA’s ideals of
strengthening one’s spirit, mind, and body. The Spot! is
located inside Cornerstone Elementary ( downstairs &
through the back door by the playground). Hours are
from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. M-F. Come down and check us

FITNESS CLASSES
Interested in helping your child develop cognitive,

MADNESS
The YMCA of Wooster offers Middle School Madness a
monthly social program for teens in grades 5 - 7.
Middle school teens meet on designated Friday nights

tournaments, sports, snacks and a supervised dance.
Each themed event is supervised by trained YMCA

FAMILY NIGHT
Day Passes - Day passes, which entitle you to use the pool, gym, weight
room, and racquetball courts may be purchased at either building. A
waiver must be signed by a parent for members under 18.
Building Rentals - The Woodland Avenue facility and the Ellen Shapiro
Natatorium are available for rental use. Whether it is for a birthday
party, meeting, youth overnighter, or whatever the occasion, the
Woodland facility houses a conference room, multi-purpose room,
gymnasium, racquetball/wallyball courts, and more. Call for prices for
your birthday party, family function or company organization.
Nonprofit organization rates available.
Babysitting - Babysitting is a free service for members. The Woodland
Avenue Program Center has babysitting available Mon - Fri mornings
9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and Mon -Thurs evenings 5:00 - 8:00 p.m for infants through
age six. This service is to be used when the adult bringing the child will be
using the workout facility or taking a class on the premises of the YMCA Woodland Avenue. Non members may purchase a babysitting card at the
front desk.

AWAY program - This program allows members who are traveling to
another city outside a 60-mile radius to use the local Y free, or at a
reduced rate. If using a visiting pass more than three times a month, a
Wooster YMCA membership should be purchased.

Weather Closing Policy - If Wooster City Schools close for weather involving
dangerous road conditions all YMCA classes are cancelled until Noon. All
YMCA facilities
will remain open for walk in use only, but there will be no babysitting
provided. If there is a level 3 emergency all YMCA facilities will be closed.
Concealed Weapon - It is illegal to carry a firearm, deadly weapon, or
dangerous ordnance anywhere on the YMCA of Wooster’s property.
Unless otherwise authorized by law, no person shall knowingly possess,
have under the person’s control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly
weapon or dangerous ordnance onto these premises.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The YMCA of Wooster is committed to providing assistance through
“scholarship” programs and memberships to any youth or family with
a true financial need. Funds made available for financial assistance
are provided through United Way, YMCA fundraising, and grants.
