Carbon fibres are just that, long thin lightweight strands of carbon that need to be converted into a cloth in
order to turn them into a fishing rod. When making fly rods, each long strand of carbon fibre needs to be
held together with a reinforced resin system that provide strength and impact resistance.

This carbon cloth is then wrapped around a mandrel to form the blank and subsequently baked at high
temperature, melting the resin to create a full strength fishing rod.

What is Carbon Nano Tube Technology?

Applying Carbon Nano Tube, or CNT technology creates a stronger resin distribution system, this helps
eliminate any weakness in the blank to create rods with significantly increased strength and improved impact
resistance, without adding any significant weight to the blank.
The resulting rods are light, smooth and ultra strong - a 50% increase in flexural strength and a 25% increase
to impact resistance - without any effect on the superb casting performance you come to expect from all
Airflo fly rods.

team here at Airflo were more than a little excited by the prospect of redesigning
the flagship Airlite range with the added benefits of Nano technology.
Utilising our unique ‘low torsion’ carbon blend and combining it with Nano
technology created a rod so light and strong, it really is revolutionary. Not only
does Nano have the major impact on strength and lifting power that you’d
expect, but it also helps enhance the action of the blank with quicker tip recovery
and even greater energy efficiency for super smooth casting performance.
The end product has been finished to the highest standard - with quality chromed
single leg snakes to reduce weight, not to mention an eye catching new reel seat.
Despite such an impressive specification, the Airlite Nan-Tec still remains user

away, the pure nature of the crystal clear coating and clear mono core optimises the clarity for ultimate stealth.
Why Ridge Clear Floating?
From our experience with existing Floating Ridge lines, we just knew how much better the lines shot through the guides and wanted to offer the advantage in our
new range of clear lines.
Ridging the coating allows us to make lines that are supple without any reduction to casting performance. They help reduce tangles and improve shootability.
When the Ridges fill with water the clarity is incredible and this also helps effectively lubricate the flyline on each and every cast. Unlike some coating techniques,
the ridges run along the lines full length and flow well through the rod guides with a minimum of noise, this indicates how little friction is being produced. With
a little tinkering in our production process we’ve been able to reduce the stretch in the core, making these lines incredibly sensitive compared with other clear
intermediates. The mono we’ve used is more supple than regular mono-cored
flylines, this helps reduce memory even on the coldest of days making them
perfect for winter fishing on small Stillwater’s. The intermediate lines come in sink
rates of 1.5” per second for the ‘Fast Int’ and our favourite ‘Slow Int’ at 0.5” per
second - this line is perfect holding the flies close to the surface without any wake.

When we were first asked to develop this line, we asked ourselves why anyone
would need a 50lb test core in a flyline, our testers in the Seychelles said they just did.
The ‘hit and hold’ style of GT fishing on the edge of a coral reef is fast and furious,
putting a flyline under extreme pressure as you try to stop these ‘bad boys’ of the

Developed over the last 3 years by sea trout expert Illtyd Griffiths, Airflo’s Sewin Caster range of lines
offers the fly fisher an effective solution to any situation that may be encountered when pursuing
the ‘Silver Prince’. The 3 density compensated sink tips not only allow the fly to be fished
at a specific depth across a range of river conditions but importantly make a striking
path to the fly, crucial for effective hooking of Sea Trout. Casting and mending are
made easy due to the floating belly and running line of these weight forward lines.
Whilst developed primarily for Sea Trout Fishing Sewin Caster lines also perform
well as single hand salmon lines and freshwater fishing applications.

Quick Spey Salmon Lines
Tactical Quick Spey is a multi tip design which bridges the gap between traditional full
Spey lines and the increasingly popular Scandinavian shooting heads.
The 47-50 foot head is ideal for quick loading and easy D-loops whilst the Ridge Supple
main belly and running line creates great line speed and tight loops for long casts.
The main belly has a very neat welded loop and the tip section is also welded both ends
forming a very neat and versatile loop-to-loop connection.
Ridge supple running lines are famous for their ease of use and tangle free handling.
A colour contrast (orange to ivory) between the running line and head helps to find the
optimum loading point. The head also has a black mark indicator, which when in your
hand offers an even greater indicator for optimum loading point.
A further 3 tips are available in intermediate, sink rate 3 and sink rate 7, all coming with
our neat welded loops both ends.

Pocket size engine that packs a punch
Electric outboard engines have never been the easiest things to transport.
That all ends now with the new Airflo Wavehopper Stowaway engine. Its unique
telescopic shaft design allows it to be completely collapsed to under 3ft in length
allowing it to fit into your car boot with ease.
When attached to the boat a press of a button and the main shaft extends into
the water. The 55lb thrust engine is powered by a 12v leisure battery making
it environmental friendly, simply twist the throttle and away you go with no
disturbance. It’s tough, too, with permanent magnetic motor, damage-resistant
casings and coatings, and a special drive shaft that won’t bend, break or corrode
in normal use.
The Wavehopper electric drive is fitted with a special Weedless Wedge

Yellowstone is arguably the centre of the trout
fishing universe, and it is here just outside it’s
eastern boundary that Rene’ has spent his
entire life. Within a half day drive from home
on the Henry’s Fork lie legendary rivers like
the Madison, FireHole, Beaverhead, Missouri,
Big Hole, Yellowstone, and the Snake. Having
been a fly fisherman from the age of nine,
Rene’ has spent nearly forty of his sixty plus as
a professional tyer, river guide, writer,
and artist.
‘The Italians’ as they are affectionately
known to everyone in the industry, Marika
& Alberto have the enviable position of
travelling the globe searching out new
adventures to write and photograph. Both
are FFF qualified instructors, running courses
and guiding throughout Europe.

Gareth Jones
We are excited to enlist the services of
current World Champion Iain Barr to help
with product development. Iain brings a
wealth of experience in all aspects of fly
fishing and we are sure his input will be put to
good use over the coming years.
In his role as Airflo Sales Director, Gareth has
travelled the world making sure our lines
perform in their intended environments tough job. A Stillwater specialist, Gareth has
fished to the highest levels in competition,
but in recent years has turned his attentions
to saltwater with a serious inclination for
both Tarpon and Stripers.

Tim became a hardened fly fisherman at
the age of 10, fishing for trout in Northern
California. Following in the footsteps of a
famous brother Tim became a champion
caster at a young age. Perhaps it is his
engineering background and analytic mind
or the years of competition where casts over
200 feet are common that drive Tim to push
equipment design to the extreme,
Tim is the North American distributor for
Airflo and contributes to design of many
Airflo’s products.
Born in the fly fishing mecca of New
Zealand, Rene represented his country from
the age of 19 and has gone on to work
alongside many of the worlds leading tackle
brands. Rene has a Masters degree with
honours in Fisheries Biology and holds a
number of casting and fly tying instructors
certificates. When he’s not fishing Rene
runs Manic Tackle Project, New Zealand’s
leading fly tackle distributors.
