REBELS AUTO CLUB
NEWSLETTER
JUNE 2013
President’s Message
Hello Fellow Rebels, spring finally showed up and
the car shows are in full speed. What a great turn out
we had for the Hot rod Nationals in spite of the
weather. We had several members brave the rain and
cool temps but as usual, the Rebels came out in force.
Thanks to all those that came out, it was a fun time
and as always, great people.
We are starting to wind up our show for June 23rd and
things are looking good so far. We still need people to
come out and volunteer to help. As always we need
many members to show up and work the show so it
will be a great success. It's the members that make the
show great and I would like to thank all those that
have been working behind the scenes to make this
happen. The past years we have grown in size of our
show, not only the participants but also the spectators.
We have a golf cart an a mule that we use for the show
for running back and forth and delivering water to volunteers and running the elderly back and forth. Please
do not bring your own personal carts as we need to
limit this to the ones we use for the club and not personal use. If you feel you need to bring one please
contact me prior to the show. It gets pretty full in
spots and don’t need several carts running around the
show. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
We have several events coming up in the next few
months so please read your newsletter often as it has
all the details on the where and when of what’s happening. We will be assembling trophies this coming
weekend so please show up to help put them together.
The more people that show up the faster it will get
done.
Next months meeting is a week early and is a potluck
at Pioneers Park for the final walk through for the
show. We are also having a registration meeting for
the program and a meeting with the judge and parking
leaders so look for that in the newsletter also.

THIS MONTH WE HIGHLIGHT OUR REBELS MEMBER ROGER SCHWAB
AND HIS 1964 MALIBU
IN ROGERS WORDS: My son (Roger II) had bought the car from Gary Gross in the late 80’s. We got
pictures of the car showing a frame off restoration. It was painted blue. He owned it a few years and
then got married. The transmission went bad and wouldn’t shift into drive, so he decided to sell it for
$2,000 and put the money down on a house. My wife (Pat) wanted me to buy the car. I liked Impalas,
not Chevelles. I ended up going to Roger saying I would buy it for $2,000. He said “Oh no dad” for you
its $3,000 plus giving him a 1979 Monte Carlo. First thing I did was to have it towed to get the transmission fixed.
Used the car for work for 6 years and in 1998 decided to have it painted at Crash Busters. Tim Swanson
was in charge of the body work. Pat and I went to look at it all apart and she said why don’t we finish it
and I said good idea. We then went to Lincoln Auto Upholstery to do the interior.
In 1998 and 1999 we were in the Rebels Auto Club and drove the car in the Star City Parade. Pat and I
would wake up at 5am to decorate the car to drive to the parade. KOLN-KGIN, channels 10 and 11,
Filmed the decoration on the front of the car as it passed by.
The rear quarter chrome on both fenders wasn’t right and it took a couple years to find replacements,
one in Kansas and one in Wisconsin. I put a crate 350 engine in 2003. I added chrome to the engine and
air conditioning later. I put an electric fan in to make it run cooler. After that I had Kevin at Auto Kraft
Upholstery put headrests in and fix the springs in the seats.
Through the years Glen Shoemaker at
Duteau’s did body work and painting
on the car. I’ve taken the car to car
shows around Lincoln and on Tour Nebraska. Went to Iowa in 2008 and
Back to the 50’s last year. We enjoy
the car and drive it whenever we can.
I entered the car at the CenturyLink
Center in Omaha, NE in 2011, 2012
and 2013. Also in Duteau’s show room.
