It has been an interesting and busy semester for members of the Department. It gives me immense pleasure to present the eighth issue of “REFLECTION”. This internal newsletter is one of the ways in which we can disseminate information on the life of the Department The past semester was full of various activities by the students and faculty in academic, co-curricular, extra-curricular as well as research & development. As you read through the pages you will realize, that the department had a particularly successful semester, we succeeded in organizing a two Days State Level Workshop on “Current Research Trends in Information and Network Security” Sponsored by BCUD. Events 1. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of B.E. Computer on the topic of “Networking in Virtual World ” on 2nd August 2013. The speaker for the session was one of the alumni, Mr. Asim Rama Pravin from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar, India. He discussed about Ethernet frames, switches, port forwarding. He enlightened students about various uses of IEEE 802.2 D standard which are also known as virtual LAN. He acquainted students with the basic concept of a switch and understanding of ways of communication between multiple switches using Trunk Port. 2. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of B. E. Computer on the topic of “Requirement of IT industry in the current scenario ” on 22 nd August 2013. The speaker for the session was Mr. Kedar Parundekar . The Speaker spoke about technical skills required for the industry such as JAVA, .NET. He enlightened students about various languages used in software industry and its importance. 3. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of T. E. Computer on the topic of “.NET Technology ” on 23rd August 2013. The speaker for the session was Mr. Shrikant Joshi . The speaker made a lively presentation on the subject and retained the attention of the students by giving interesting examples and made the lecture for the students a very knowledgeable experience. 4. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of S. E. Computer on the topic of “Basics Of Python programming ” on 26nd August 2013. The speaker for the session was Ms.Himagauri Kanade. The speaker explained all application of Python and basic feature of Python in detail. Python is a widely used general-purpose, high-level programming language. She spoke about Python’s support for multiple programming paradigms, including object-oriented, imperative and functional programming or procedural styles. 5. A Guest Lecture was arranged for the students of T. E. Computer on the topic of “Introduction to Postgres Internals” on 2nd Sept 2013 .The speaker for the session was one of the alumni, Mr. Asim Rama Pravin from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar, India. 6. Workshop on Mobile Computing and Andriod app development on 6th and 7th Sep.2013.The speaker for the session was Mr. Chaitanya Kurdukar who is an SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Android with Seed Infotech Pvt. Ltd. 3 ACE—2013 The Computer Department had organized a two day workshop on “Ethical hacking and information security” in association with EI systems Delhi. This workshop was part of EI systems’ HACKNEX, a first ever series of hacking workshops being held in India. Target Audience: S.E, T.E, B.E students from other colleges . Activity Report: A two day technical inter college event “ACE 2013” was organized on the 13 rh Sept and 14th Sept 2013 at MESCOE ,Pune. The main objective’s of this session were to provide knowledge to students in the area of Ethical hacking, to provide knowledge to students in the area of Information security and to encourage students to pursue careers in Information security area. The ACE Coordinators were Mrs R.A Khan , Mrs S.P. Deore Mr. B.K.Bodkhe Ms. S.H.Pathan and Mrs S.S Shinde CRTINS ’2013 The Department organized a two Days State Level Workshop on “Current Research Trends in Information and Network Security” Sponsored by BCUD, Pune on the 10 th and 11th October, 2013 Target Audience: Faculty from various university. Activity Report: The conference received an over-whelming response, not only from students and faculty of various engineering colleges from all over India but also from the industry. Total 54 participants from 13 colleges of Pune University and 6 other universities registered for the workshop. This program provided basic knowledge and skill to do research in the field of Information and Network Security. It also helped to recognize the need for continuing professional development and gave the knowledge of research tools .It provided a spectacular opportunity for P.G students, academicians and industry professionals to interact with the authorities in the subject. Day Celebration ’2013 Teacher’s Day- On the occasion of teacher’s day, BE Computer Engineering students conducted lectures for SE and TE classes from 8 AM to 12:00 PM. The teacher’s day celebration program started with the Sarswati puja. On this occasion students expressed their sense of gratitude and respect towards their teachers. Various games like Musical chair and Dhamsheraj were arranged for teachers. Engineers Day- An Alumni interaction was successfully conducted on 16th Sept- 2013 by Department Of Computer Engineering, MESCOE , which witnessed an enthusiastic response and participation from students of BE1 & BE2 COMPUTER ENGINEERING (Total BE1 -45/70& BE2 -48/69 ). The Speaker Mr. Satyajit Saste, spoke about importance of Finance Management and higher studies abroad. The Speaker Mr. Vispan Boocha, spoke about GRE TOFEL etc. He discussed various issues regarding studying in abroad universities. Computer Engineering. 2. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. 3. Mechanical Engineering. All these courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education, (AICTE) New Delhi, sanctioned by Govt. of Maharashtra and affiliated to University of Pune. The Modern Education Society, Pune was established in 1932. Staff Achievements 1. Prof N. F. Prof Sharmila Kishor Wagh attended a three days NBA workshop for training resource on outcome based accreditation at Walchand Institute of Technology, Solapur from 04 October - 06 October , 2013 6. Prof. S.S. Mane and Prof. B.Y.Pawar attended a SE syllabus revision FDP on OSA on 5,6,and 7th July in SIT, Narhe 7. Prof. R.S.Mane attended a SE syllabus revision workshop on 3rd August at MIT , Pune. 8. Mr. P.V.Raut admitted to M.E. E&TC (Signal Prcessing) For the academic year 2013. 9. Mrs. N.
