Fletching Your Arrows – Arrow Shaft Preparation
1. Cut shaft to proper length and install inserts with Ferr-l-tite®,
Ferr-l-tite® Cool Flex™ or Insert Iron™.
a. If refletching, remove old vanes & glue with “The Stripper”.
2. Clean new shafts with Bohning SSR, an abrasive cleanser such
as Ajax® or Comet®, etc. or scrub with Scotch-Brite® pad.
3. Rinse under HOT running water and let air dry.
Fletching Tips
1. If vanes come off and glue remains on vane base, repeat
cleaning process listed above.
2. If vanes come off and glue remains on the shaft, check dates of
vanes and adhesive and ensure you are using enough
downward pressure on clamp.
3. If vanes come off arrow wrap with no damage to arrow wrap,
make sure arrow wraps are cleaned prior to fletching.
4. If wrap comes off arrow shaft, repeat shaft cleaning process
listed above.
Common Fletching Errors
1. Did not properly prep shaft.
2. Too little adhesive.
3. Not enough downward pressure on the clamp.
4. Residue (oil from skin or lotion) left on shaft or wrap.
5. Vane base not in full contact with arrow shaft.
6. Adhesive build up on clamp edge or interior, which impedes
downward pressure.
a. To avoid, use Bohning Teflon tape on clamp for easy
removal of excess adhesive.
7. Not enough clamp time.
8. Did not allow for complete cure.
a. Bohning recommends 24 hours.
There is no need to clean
vane bases before fletching.
The base of every Bohning vane is chemically
treated to promote excellent adhesion.
All Bohning vanes have the best adhesion when
used within 2 years from the date of
manufacture. Bohning vanes are compatible
with most commonly available adhesives.
Potential Causes of Adhesion Failures
1. Adhesive too old or out of date.
2. Using wrong type of adhesive.
3. Too little adhesive on vane base.
4. Clamps with adhesive build up.
5. Improperly set up jigs.
6. Not enough downward pressure on vanes.
7. Use of silicone based aerosols, oils or chemicals in fletching area.
8. Eating while fletching, contaminating shaft surface.
9. Shafts not properly cleaned to remove oil, dust or chemical
compounds.

Simple & Easy “Roll On” Application! Use a semi-soft, flat surface, like a mouse pad!
1) Wipe shaft surface with alcohol. Let air dry.
2) Remove Arrow wrap backing. Place wrap face down on semi-soft surface.
3) Position shaft & align with edge of wrap. Slide shaft toward arrow wrap
until full length of wrap is in contact with shaft.
4) Using steady down pressure, roll shaft. Now you’re ready to fletch.
Removing Arrow Wraps:
Opt 1: Scrape Arrow wrap off using Bohning’s
“Stripper” tool. Clean residue with Limoxyl™.
Opt 2: Soak in hot tap water for approx. 5 min.
Peel Arrow wrap off. Clean residue with Limoxyl™.
Opt 3: Heat Arrow wrap with hair dryer until soft.
Peel Arrow wrap off. Clean residue with Limoxyl™.
Final Step: Clean shaft with soap & hot water.
Tech-Tip - When fletching a wrapped shaft, make sure and place the “index fletching” over the seam. This helps secure the wrap.

go. Colorless, odorless and will not
affect feather adhesion.
Specifically for Platinum®. Never
exceed 2% by volume. Over thinning
will cause problems with adhesion.
Dipping and cresting arrows is a hands on activity that allows you to add your own personal artistic touch to an arrow. An arrow dipped in Bohning
lacquer paint provides the best vane adhesion available since all of the Bohning products are designed to be compatible. When dipping arrows,
be sure the paint has the correct viscosity. For best results, thin with Bohning Fletch-Lac thinner. The paint can be made thicker by leaving the
lid off for an hour or so, checking it for viscosity every 30 minutes. A base white coat is recommended under all colors to provide desired results.
Dipping and cresting, when done properly, creates less weight than a standard arrow wrap of the same length. Do not clear coat over a crest as
the clear will cause the crest to sag and blur. Dipping in excessive heat and humidity is not recommended.
