ST.VINCENT DE PAUL DISTRIBUTION CENTER VOLUNTEERS Please join us September 12, 2015 from 8 am – Noon at 1201 E Maryland St. to help serve struggling families in Indianapolis. First time volunteers are much appreciated, and there will be repeat volunteers present to show you what to do. Call Larry Heil at 6577093 if you have questions. Dear Friends of Holy Spirit, On this Labor Day Weekend, I invite all of us to pray for those people who cannot find adequate employment. As a priest, I have never had to worry about this(!), but so many people live on the edge of survival because of no employment or insufficient employment. It is very difficult to hear the stories of people who come to the office, being either homeless or close to it. As we give thanks to God for our work, present or past, let us remember in prayer those who struggle greatly in this area. Our Intercultural Office of the Archdiocese is hosting a series of ethnic dinners. In July the ethnic experience was from Vietnam, August was from Korea and September will be from Mexico. People who have attended these have been very pleased. I encourage you to consider the next one on September 12th at the Intercultural Center (the old St. Bernadette’s). Call 317236-1562 or m [email protected] . The library in the school is completed following the flooding this summer. Drywall and flooring were replaced, a sub-pump was put in, everything was painted and bookcases were repaired and put on rollers. It looks great!! Thank you to the many people who helped with this endeavor, both paid and volunteers! Please pray for the recently deceased: George Hammis, Linda Hall, Albina Mazza HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH September 6, 2015 New Bible Stud The next Bible studies begin the week of Sep. 14th. They will be offered three times: Monday evenings beginning on Sept. 14, from 7 to 9pm Thursday afternoons beginning Sept. 17, from 12:30 to 2pm Thursday evenings beginning Sept. 17, from 7 to 9pm All three sessions will be a 10 week study on the book of James. Please join us at any of these sessions as we study the book of James. James is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues faced by ordinary Christians in everyday life. These teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith. The study offers "pearls of wise living" by applying the wisdom of James to the present day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances. For more information, please contact Penny Eisenhut at 862-1235. Honduras Free Will Offerin Great News! You can now make our Honduras Free Will Offerin online! Recovery is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential. Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those in recovery, just as we celebrate health improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. This observance reinforces the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.from www.samhsa.gov, Substance Abuse Catholic Charities News One of the few prayers that we know that Jesus prayed was a prayer for unity among all believers (John 17:21). The vast number of Christian denominations would suggest that this prayer is a long way from being realized. However, we can find unity when we serve side by side motivated by the most powerful unifying force of all – love. Find out how you can serve those in need alongside people of varying faith traditions at: http://www.archindy.org/cc/volunteer.html and Mental Health Services Administration Join in Praying for Those Afflicted with Addictions... Lord God in Heaven Creator of all things. You have all power to heal those who are struggling with the devastating disease of addiction. We pray God you would intercede in their lives and flood their eyes with light, So they can know and understand the hope to which You have called them. Give them strength and courage take away their fears, grief, anxieties, and resentments. Send your word God, heal them, rescue them from the pit of destruction. Allow them to live and not die. Heal their broken hearts and bind up their wounds curing all of their pains and sorrows. Allow them to hear your call, allow them the grace to never give up and to always stay focused on you. Fill their hearts with your word, for your word is life to all who find it and health for the whole body, mind and spirit. I pray these things in Jesus Holy Name...Amen School’s in Session with Marian’s Adult Programs Fall is “back to school” time!
