our attention by local teachers that children in our area
were looking in school trash cans for things to take home
to eat. We are asking for donations of snack items that teachers
can discretely place in their student’s backpacks to take home with them. Donations
can be dropped off at any of our locations. If you are a teacher who would like to
participate in this, please let us know.
Warm coats are needed for winter. URW is once again collecting clean, gently used
coats to be donated to Danville/Pittsylvania Social Service. Our goal is that no child
in our community will stand at their bus stop without a coat on those crispy cold
mornings.

Member owned. When you become a
member of a credit union, you become part
owner.
Banks are owned by investors who may not
even be depositors.
Not-for-profit. Credit unions are
cooperatives that exist only to serve their
members. Excess earnings are returned
to the members in the form of lower
fees, lower loan rates and higher savings
dividends.
Banks are for-profit and are established to
generate profits for stockholders/investors.
Members have a say in how the credit
union is operated. Members elect unpaid
volunteers from the membership to the
board of directors through a democratic
process.
Bank customers have no say in its
operation. Only stockholders/investors have
voting privileges.
