The LMP1 centre.
You don’t win races on the track. It happens much earlier. “The LMP1
centre is at the heart of our project. Developing a complete vehicle in a
single building is certainly a unique situation. It means very short distances.
With more than 130 engineers, the necessary laboratories and a local test
track, the conditions for our return to LMP1 sports prototype racing are
excellent.” That’s what Vice President LMP1 at Porsche, Fritz Enzinger, says.
The LMP1 workshop.
On a secret mission. The workshop doesn’t only produce the engine,
gearbox and high-voltage components for the 919 Hybrid. The vehicle is
completely assembled here and prepared for the test track. What happens at the
workshop is what many in our team have long dreamed of and are now witnessing at
last: the ‘marriage’, which refers to the moment when the engine is Śrst installed in the
vehicle. The pit crew also trains for races on an authentic vehicle here and is already
battling it out for every tenth of a second.
Infrastructure. A glimpse behind the scenes.
The starting point for our Mission 2014 was the Research and Development Centre in Weissach and the Porsche Motorsport Centre
in Flacht. Only here, where all of our race cars were created – for example, the 911 RSR and the 911 GT3 Cup – could our latest
vision become reality: the 919 Hybrid. The quantity? Minimal. The cost of development? Enormous. An elaborate infrastructure
was created speciŚcally for our return to the highest classiŚcation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and to develop the series-production
technology of the future.
The high-voltage system.
Our engineers are facing a new challenge: generating power. A crucial
part of the 2014 FIA WEC regulations: vehicle efŚ ciency. The maximum
amount of energy per lap is prescribed – for the combustion engine and
hybrid system. To that end, we have developed our own high-voltage facility
where the hybrid system’s electrical components are tested and where the
challenges posed by the regulations provide fresh inspiration for our
engineers’ technical ambitions.

The cockpit mock-up.
How you sit is how you drive. Even in a high-tech world a single factor can
make a signiŚcant difference. People, for example. This is why we focused on
the driver from the very start of development of the LMP1 prototype. We use
the feedback from our drivers’ experiences in the cockpit mock-up when
designing the cockpit. To ensure optimum ergonomics in their future
workplace. How can you arrange switches and buttons so they can be
accessed intuitively in any situation? Our LMP1 works drivers gave us the
answers.
The driving simulator.
Virtual reality. Continually in use: the new driving simulator. The objective:
to simulate technical changes carried out on the vehicle – with direct driver
feedback. The complex technology consists of a motion platform with a
monocoque, steering wheel and pedals. The simulator creates a driving
experience that is close to the real thing. It also provides an exact
reproduction of the proŚle and the environment of the racetrack. In this way,
the driver can prepare for every curve, every straight, every chicane and
every detail. Long before the green starting lights come on.

>> 24 Hours for Eternity <<
Special exhibition entitled
‘24 Hours for Eternity. Le Mans.’
Until 13 July 2014, Porsche will look back on its previous
successes at Le Mans and a number of other aspects with
an extensive special exhibition.
For the special exhibition entitled ‘24 Hours for Eternity. Le Mans.’ which runs
until 13 July 2014, the Porsche Museum will be transformed into a racetrack
paying homage to the famous long-distance race. The focus will be on the
919 Hybrid. Re-enactments of racing scenarios from the victorious racing
years on life-sized prism walls and sections of track such as the Hunaudières
straight will guide museum visitors through the special exhibition.
More than 20 different race cars tell the unique and exciting story of this
legendary 24-hour race. Alongside the 919 Hybrid, Ś rst-time exhibits at
the Porsche Museum will include the Porsche 908/2 Spyder long tail from
1969, Porsche 911 T/R from 1971, Porsche 911 3.0 RSR from 1974 and
Porsche 936/81 Spyder from 1981. Also on display are the Porsche 935
from 1979, Porsche 911 GT2 Le Mans, Porsche 962 GT Dauer Le Mans
from 1994 as well as the WSC LMP1 from 1998. The historical tales of the
famous long-distance race associated with these vehicles are brought to
life by the special exhibition. Various smaller exhibits such as helmets,
a brake disc from the Porsche 956 and the diary of Ferry Porsche from
the Porsche corporate archives round off this journey back through the
history of Porsche at Le Mans.
On the weekend of the race, the Porsche Museum will open its doors for
the Śrst time for more than 24 hours straight, from Saturday, 14 June at
9am to Sunday, 15 June at 6pm. Visitors and fans of the endurance race
will be able to follow the race action live as part of a public viewing event
on several monitors in and around the museum building. Admission is free
on this weekend.

A slackline is a strap or piece of webbing that
is stretched out between two anchor points.
In contrast to tightrope walking, the strap is

Porsche Classic sets a
worldwide standard.
The fascinating appeal of Porsche is timeless. Our Porsche Centres are
therefore not only experts in new and pre-owned vehicles, but also in
genuine classic cars. Now more so than ever.
At Porsche, tradition and innovation have always been closely linked. That’s why more
than 70 % of all Porsche vehicles ever built are still on the road today, and they are still
adding to the fascinating appeal of the brand.
Porsche Classic is dedicated to supporting the longevity of your historical vehicle. In
order to meet the requirements of a growing classic car market, approximately 100
Porsche Centres around the world will be developed into Porsche Classic Partners over
the next few years.
This will ensure that we can offer a comprehensive service to owners of sought-after
classic Porsche models. Around 52,000 Porsche Classic Genuine Parts are already
available in all Porsche Centres worldwide. But that’s not all. In future, in addition to
offering an extensive range of genuine spare parts and technical literature,
Porsche Classic Partners will also provide the necessary expertise for all repairs
and service work, as well as full and partial restoration.
This is also visually demonstrated by Porsche Classic: a Classic Corner within the
Porsche Classic Partner showroom includes classic exhibition vehicles, current Classic
genuine spare parts and technical literature. It also provides information about aspects
such as how the Porsche Crest is manufactured. The Classic Corner can be
incorporated into an existing Porsche Centre or as part of a separate
Porsche Classic Centre dedicated exclusively to Porsche classic cars.
An up-to-date list of all Porsche Classic Partners and other information is available at
