A Special Letter to the Members
Nita Fisher has announced that after three terms as our club president, she won't be running again.
That means that in January we will have a "change of the guard," and whenever this happens, it's an
opportunity to reflect on where the club has been, its current status, and where we want it to go in
the future.
We can decide to keep the level of activities the same, add more activities, or discontinue some activities. For example, we can decide to focus exclusively on our Sunday ride program and drop all
other activities; we can add more social activities; we can try to regain our status as the top Bikers
for Babies fundraiser; we can go all out to gain new members — or anything in between.
For each proposed change, we need to consider both the costs and the benefits to the club. The costs
can include money, members’ time and energy, and intangibles such as people’s attitude toward the
club. Benefits might be having more fun, satisfying more members’ desires, feeling more cohesive,
increasing membership, etc.
At the General Membership meeting on Tuesday, September 26, and at other GM meetings between
then and the new year if needed, we will set aside time to discuss the future of the club; whether we
want to make changes; and the pros, cons, costs, and benefits of any proposed changes.
We hope that as many members as possible attend these meetings so we can have a good representation of ideas and opinions.

GM Meeting Report
Page 3
At the August meeting, Larry Wahlers reported a balance of $4258.10 in the general fund,
$1355.97 in the Bikers for Babies fund, and $587 in the merchandise fund.
Ryugen reported that the August 12 helmet day raised $1,029.77 ($49 per worker hour),
bringing the total for the year to $4059. He also thanked Jeanne Garlock for her good work on the
club’s ad for the Ride Event Guide.
Kevin commented on the previous week’s ride and the upcoming ride.
Larry McGowen reported that 14 people were signed up for the Indiana Covered Bridges Ride,
and that there were still rooms available. It was suggested that this ride be offered again next year for
those who were interested but couldn’t make it this time.
Nita reviewed the process for nominating officers for next year and asked for volunteers to serve
on the three-person nominating committee. Bob Mueller and Paul Garlock volunteered.

September-October Rides & Special Events
The Shadow Writer
*CHANGE* September 24—Highway 185 (Erin O’Donnell, organizer)
If you like back roads with a lot of twists and turns, this is the ride for you. A short ride on Highway 109
followed by some alphabet roads will lead us to the most enjoyable section of Highway 185. We’ll stop
for lunch in Sullivan. After lunch the ride will continue on Highway 185 to Highway 100 then meander
back to Manchester. If you’re in a hurry to get home after lunch, I-44 takes you straight to St. Louis.
October 1 — Highway 19 (Bob Mueller, organizer)
This ride takes in the upper half of Hwy 19 and the best of Hwy 185. It winds through part of Mark
Twain National Forest, includes some great twisties and rolling hills, and ends with a ride down our old
favorite, Hwy 94. This can be a challenging ride if you don't like to lean; but if you do, you will love it!
October 8 — Bikers for Babies
The ride stages out of the St. Charles Family Arena. Registration is from 10-12:45; lunch is 11-12:45
before the ride. The ride begins at 1:00 pm and covers about 64 miles. Be sure to tell the parking guides
you are with the Shadow Riders.
Those who want to ride in together can meet at the CCA Global parking lot, 4301 Earth City Expressway, between 9:30 and 10:00 am. We will leave the parking lot promptly at 10:00 for the short ride
to Family Arena. (CCA Global is on the corner of Shoreline and the southbound lanes of Earth City Expressway. Contact Nita if you need more detailed directions.)
October 15 — Four Ferries (Mark Levin, organizer)
We will be crossing the Missouri, Mississippi, and Illinois Rivers, riding through scenic Calhoun
County, riding 4 different ferry boats, and enjoying a wonderful lunch along the way.
October 22 — Augusta BBQ (Nita Fisher/Diana Johnson, organizers)
A new take on an old favorite (rained out in April). We’ll work our way to North Hwy 94 in St. Charles
and ride through farmland into O’Fallon. We pop out on South 94 to complete our journey through scenic twists and turns. This ride is approx. 75 miles / 2 hours of riding. We end in Augusta at the American
Legion Hall for BBQ pork steaks and fried chicken with all the fixings. The price for this all-you-can-eat
lunch is $8.50.
* NEW RIDE* October 29 — Frankenstein, MO (Eric Levy, organizer)
Just in time for Halloween, we head for tiny but infamous Frankenstein, Missouri. Nestled in the hills of
the Missouri River Valley, we head along some fun alphabet roads to Hermann, then west on Rt. 100
along the twists and turns of the Missouri River to the top of a lonely hill, where storm clouds gather
over a twisted castle. Or, we just stop for photos under the 'Welcome to Frankenstein' sign. A fun new
ride, with beautiful scenery and good roads.
Saturday, September 30—Bikers for Babies Pre-Registration Event, Ameristar, 10-4
You can register for the October 8th Ride, enjoy good food and entertainment, and bid on a
dazzling array of Silent Auction packages.
Other Bikers for Babies Pre-registration Options
