Media Coverage
The interest in Billiken basketball
has become so intense that Saint Louis
University has attracted the attention of
basketball fans far beyond the regional
viewing area.
MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
Media exposure is one of the keys to
developing and maintaining a program of
national stature, and Saint Louis University
annually appears on national electronic
media.
Television rights to Billiken basketball
games, as are all Atlantic 10 Conference
games, are owned by CSTV, which will be
responsible for producing the Billikens’
local TV package. That schedule has
traditionally featured 14-15 games with
the goal of bringing as many road games
as possible back to the St. Louis market.
• National television appearances every
year, including dates on ESPN, ESPN2,
ESPNU, CSTV and Fox Sports Network,
have helped put SLU on the college
basketball map.
• All other games are produced for local
distribution by CSTV.
The A-10 deal gives CSTV longterm media and marketing rights for all
21 men’s and women’s A-10 sports. The
partnership began in 2006 when CSTV
began carrying A-10 action on television
and broadband from its 14 member
schools. The arrangement is expected to
give the A-10 more access to placing more
games and sports across more platforms
than ever before.
• Media personalities including Dick Vitale,
Mike Patrick, Bob Carpenter, Larry Conley,
Rollie Massimino, Barry Thompkins and
Bill Raftery have visited Scottrade Center.
• Saint Louis also gains recognition
from regional and national magazines
and newspapers. The Sporting News is
headquartered in St. Louis.
ESPN will televise the 2008 Atlantic
10 Men’s Basketball Tournament live from
Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., on
Saturday, March 15, 2008.
• The
Atlantic 10 Conference
Championship game, which for the second
straight year will be held at Boardwalk
Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., is televised live
on ESPN. The early-round games of the
conference tournament are televised live
by CSTV.
• Four network affiliate TV stations in St.
Louis regularly report on the Billikens.
• The Billikens are covered daily in the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the largest daily
newspaper in Missouri. The St. Louis office
of the Associated Press, along with Illinois
newspapers such as the Belleville NewsDemocrat and the Alton Telegraph, routinely
staff Billikens games.
• The entire Billiken basketball schedule is
broadcast on 590 The Fan KFNS Radio.
• Five AM radio stations in St. Louis
dedicate time to sports and host talk
shows that allow fans to keep up-todate on the latest happenings in Billiken
basketball: All-Sports KFNS (590), KMOX
(1120), KTRS (550), 1380 ESPN (KSLG)
and WGNU (920).
Mike Kelley and Lou Canellis broadcast for ESPN from Scottrade Center.
