Mass Intentions for July 4 & 5, 2015
Pastor’s Notes
For almost two years now Deacons Kevin Brown,
German Flores, and Allen Greene have been working to
form a team to address one of the core diaconal
ministries, outreach to the poor. One of their conclusions
is that the Catholic Church of Glen Burnie should begin
focusing the cause for the poor box for each month. For
instance for the month of July a portion of the monies
collected will be donated to “Family Project” and
“Sarah’s House.” Deacon Allen Greene, as the
coordinating deacon, will be inserting in the weekend
bulletin an explanation of the ministry/cause each
month. Briefly stated, “Family Project” is intended to
break the cycle of generational poverty one family at a
time. “Sarah’s House” is a homeless shelter in Anne
Arundel County. It is hoped that with an intention each
month, our giving for the poor will be more intentional.
Deacon German Flores is forming a Saint Vincent
DePaul Society (SVP), which is a prayer-based group of
parishioners who will respond to the needs of the poor.
SVP is a nation-wide ministry which most parishes have
as the reach out to those who Jesus demonstrated a
preferential option for, the poor. They will begin with a
retreat and then begin the ministry. If you are interested
or feel called to such ministry, contact Deacon German
through CCGB’s Parish Center.
Many couples are celebrating their wedding
anniversaries. Orville & Florence Henschel celebrated
their 60th anniversary on May 21. Father Mike De
Ascanis helped them renew their consent at the cluster
8:30 am Mass on Thursday. This past Sunday, Jim & Cass
Shreiner celebrated their 55th anniversary at Holy
Trinity’s 8:30 am Sunday Mass. We salute and
congratulate both couples as they give witness to the
grace and blessing of married life. May God bless you as
you continue on your journey as partners in Christ!
A word on vacations: By the time you read these notes
Father Vin has planned to be leaving his homeland of
Nigeria to return to Glen Burnie on Monday. Summer can
be a great time to be rejuvenated with family and loved
ones. I hope yours will allow you to take some time off
and relax with those you love.
Further clergy news, Father George has moved to Holy
Trinity rectory so that he can be closer to public
transportation. He has to travel to and from John’s
Hopkins Hospital at Bayview. If any of you work there or
near there please contact Father George.

well before school so that

Wednesday Eucharistic Adoration
Please consider attending Eucharistic Adoration held
every Wednesday at the Chapel of the Angels at Good
Shepherd Church held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (entrance is
at the back of the church). Currently, there is a need for
more adorers particularly in the morning (9 a.m. to 12
p.m.). You may sign up in the chapel or just attend as
often as you are able. Please sign in when you come.
Also, as you're planning your children's summer
schedule, why not add weekly Eucharistic adoration and
teach them the beauty of adoring our Lord in the Blessed
Sacrament. If you make time for Jesus, He will ensure

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults - RCIA
Classes for the Catholic Church of Glen Burnie are held at
the Parish Center on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9
p.m. Each year our parish offers men and women a
chance to explore the Catholic Faith and to begin or
continue their journey in becoming Catholic. RCIA is for
those who: have never been baptized; those baptized in
another Christian church who want to become Catholic;
or baptized Catholics who are in need of Confirmation.
Come journey with us in the Rite of Christian Initiation
for Adults (RCIA) as we delve deeply into the heart of the
Catholic Faith and grow in the knowledge and love of

Bingo at Good Shepherd!
A Bingo Blast will be held at Good Shepherd hall on
Sunday, July 12, doors open at 12:30. A $20 donation for
admission includes bingo cards, a chicken luncheon

Partners in Care
Many older parishioners of Holy Trinity receive nomonetary-cost rides to the doctor, the grocery, etc. from
the kind volunteer drivers of the nonprofit Partners In
Care. PIC provides hundreds of rides and repairs weekly
for older adults throughout the county. PIC has a thrift
store at 6 S. Ritchie Highway (corner of East West Blvd. &
Ritchie Hwy) whose proceeds help to keep this service
going. They welcome gently-used clothing, household

An Evening of Peace & Reflection
For Parents Who Have Lost a Child
A quiet evening of support and prayer will be held at
Malvern Retreat House on Wednesday, July 1 from
5:30pm-9:30pm for parents who have lost a child.
Deacon David Schaffer, who is leading the retreat, has a
personal perspective on the grieving process since early
in his marriage he lost a child before birth, and then later
in 2012 he lost his wife and adult son. During this retreat,
Holy Mass will be celebrated, and parents will be
provided with candles on which they can inscribe the

Fiat is Latin for “Let it be done.” This was Mary’s
response to the angel Gabriel when she was asked to
become the mother of Jesus. The FIAT DAYS camp is for
young women in high school who want to model their
personal holiness on that of Mary. By doing so they hope
to be better able to discover their own vocation from our
Lord, and make their own “fiat” or “yes” to Him. We are
excited to announce that this year we will be doing our
camp with the Archdiocese of Washington! The camp
includes prayer, talks, discussions with religious sisters,

Save the Date! Bag Bingo is Coming!
Our bi-annual bag bingo (featuring Thirty-One Gifts) will
be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:00 p.m. (Doors open
at 6:15) in Good Shepherd Hall. All the Bags are filled and
proceeds will support the FUSION Youth Ministry
Program. Raffles, door prizes, and refreshments are
available. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

What do Samuel, David, and the Child Jesus in the
Temple all have in common? They were called to serve
God in church as children! Mass is not just for grown-ups
- kids can play an important role too! We are in need of
altar servers at all our Masses at all our locations. If you

Reconciliation & 1st Eucharist Enrollment
Registration forms for 1st Reconciliation will be mailed
out early September. Young people who are interested in
receiving the sacrament of the Eucharist must
successfully complete our Reconciliation sacramental
preparation program. Students who have successfully
completed a year of religious education classes are
eligible to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. If you
have any questions regarding our sacramental
preparation, please email Dan Miller, Coordinator of
Sacramental Faith Formation, for more information.

Summer Madness
Re-Registration Forms for Fall 2015
All families have been mailed re-registration forms.
Please return completed re-registration forms to our
office as soon as possible. This will allow us ample time
to prepare classes and update contact information.
Please note that tuition for the 2015 – 2016 school year
is not due until September, so please do not hold your
registration forms for that reason.
Summer Madness Is Coming!
Mark Your Calendars!
What is Summer Madness? Summer Madness is a
unique opportunity for Middle School young people to be
involved in community service as well as fun activities
during those long, boring weeks of summer. Summer
Madness is designed to expose Middle School youth to
areas of ministry and service offered in our area, and to
put their faith into action.
How does Summer Madness work? During the week of
July 6 - 10, the students will gather at Catholic Church of
Glen Burnie Parish Center in Glen Burnie for warmers,
prayer, and announcements before the young people
travel to their service sites. Each group will experience a
different work site each day that will seek to expose the
young people to a variety of opportunities.
The afternoon begins with lunch (not provided),
processing the morning’s experiences and then … we’re
off for an afternoon activity.
When does Summer Madness Happen? The Summer
Madness service/recreational program runs the week of
July 6 – 10 meeting at CC-GB Parish Center at 8:30 a.m.
and returning there by 5:00 p.m. On Friday, July 10, 2014
we spend the day at Hershey Park as a wrap up to the
summer events.
How much does Summer Madness cost? Cost for this
event is $160.00 per person, which covers entrance fees
for afternoon activities, supplies, transportation, and TShirts. Each person pays the fee whether or not they
participate in all days. If a student is not going to
Hershey with us, then the fee is $85.
How do I sign up??? If you are interested in participating
in this awesome program, please call Joyce on ext. 18 for
a registration packet or download it from our website –
www.faithformationprogram.org. Registration is limited
and is on a first come, first serve basis.
CAN YOU DONATE? We often ask our parish family for
donations of things you may have lying around the house
that you no longer need. For Vacation Bible School we
are looking for donations of:
• Old CDs
• Plastic jars and empty bottles of house cleaners
(Windex, Kaboom, 409, Green Works, Mr. Clean, etc…)

• Unused mouse traps
• Unused disposable diapers
• 2 ltr soda bottles with caps
• pop-up sports style water bottle caps
• toilet paper tubes
• glitter or metallic confetti
• 28 oz clear plastic peanut butter jars (or other wide

Notas del Pastor
Durante casi dos años Diáconos Kevin Brown, German
Flores y Allen Green han estado trabajando para formar
un equipo para dirigirse a un ministerio fundamental
diaconal que alcance a los pobres. Una de sus
conclusiones es que la Iglesia Católica de Glen Burnie
debe comenzar a centrarse en la causa de la caja de
pobres cada mes. Por ejemplo, para el mes de julio una
parte de los fondos recaudados serán donados a
“Proyecto Familia” y “Sarah’s House.” Diácono Allen
Green, como el diacono de coordinación, se inserta en el
boletín del fin de semana una explicación del ministerio/
causa cada mes. En pocas palabras, “Proyecto Familia”
tiene la intención de romper el ciclo de la pobreza
generacional de una familia a la vez. “Sarah’s House” es
un refugio para desamparados en el condado de Anne
Arundel. Se espera que con la intención de cada mes, lo
que nosotros le damos a los pobres será más intencional.
Diacono German Flores está formando una Sociedad
de San Vicente DePaul (SVP), es un grupo de oración de
feligreses que responden a las necesidades de los pobres.
SVP es un ministerio de alcance nacional que la mayoría
de las parroquias tienen como alcance a aquellos que
Jesús demostró una opción preferencial por los pobres.
Comenzaran con un retiro y luego comenzar el
ministerio. Si usted está interesado o se siente llamado a

Muchas parejas están celebrando sus aniversarios de
boda. Orville y Florence Henshel celebraron su 60
aniversario el 21 de mayo el jueves. El pasado domingo,
Jim & Cass Shreiner celebraron su 55 aniversario en las
misa de las 8:30am en Holy Trinity. Saludamos y
felicitamos a ambas parejas, ya que dan testimonio de la
gracia y la bendición de la vida matrimonial. Que Dios los
bendiga a medida que continúe en su viaje como socios
en Cristo!

Mensaje del Padre Jesús
Las palabras, muchas veces, resultan
ociosas e impertinentes.
El evangelio de hoy es mucho más que la historia del
poder de curación y de resucitar que tenía Jesús. Es la
historia de Jesús dando vida y haciendo precisamente lo
que no estaba supuesto a hacer, tocar y dejarse tocar por
los intocables según la ley.
Hoy, una mujer sin nombre, sin dinero, sin esperanza y
con doce años de enfermedad interrumpe el viaje de
Jesús hacia la casa de un hombre con nombre, dinero y
una hija de doce años enferma.
A la hemorroisa sólo le queda Jesús. Todos los demás
remedios han fracasado. "Si pudiera tocar"… El
atrevimiento de la fe.
Jesús la llama: "hija", la declara familia de Dios, la
alaba por su fe que es la que ha producido el milagro.
Ahora ya sabemos algo de esta mujer y de Jesús.
Nosotros nos desangramos también física y
espiritualmente. Pero nos contentamos con las múltiples
pastillas gratis de la farmacia.

La enfermedad nos margina, nos excluye y nos pone
en las manos de médicos y máquinas.
La enfermedad espiritual, el desinterés por Dios y sus
remedios nos endurecen, nos hacen desconfiados y
hacen que vivamos con poca esperanza y un tanto
amargados. No caemos en la cuenta de que hay poder en
medio de nosotros. Todos tenemos la oportunidad de
tocar y ser tocados por el amor de Jesucristo. Cada
comunión es un abrazo de Jesucristo. Recibida con fe
grande es un lanzamiento a otro universo, a otra visión
más amable y esperanzada de la vida.
Creados a imagen de Dios, hemos sido hechos para
durar, a pesar de todo, para vivir para siempre con
nuestro amor, Dios.
