General Information
Dear Resident:
What happened in Itasca, 20 years ago, in November 1991?
The Itasca Park District opened its doors to the Itasca Recreation Center!
Prior to that, the building was known as the Walter Schmidt Building. It was
home to two rooms and a garage. The majority of the Park District programs were
held off-site within Itasca School District 10 and Lake Park High School buildings,
local churches or other various locations.
During the 1980’s, the Park District began to feel the squeeze for lack of needed
programming space. In 1988, the Itasca Park District began 3 years of public
input, planning and construction of the Itasca Recreation Center. The Itasca
Recreation Center opened in November 1991. Approximately 30,000 sq ft was
constructed; which included 1st floor preschool, dance/aerobics room, large
community room, the gymnasium with track and designated gymnastic area,
locker rooms and the “Itasca Fitness Center”.
The 1991 Itasca Fitness Center was located directly adjacent off the track and was
730 sq ft! It had 8 Cybex pieces, 3 Randal 4000PT StairMasters, 2 Randal
Windracer Bikes, 2 Schwinn Airdynes and offered Personal Fitness Assessments.
over 1200 members. It offers IFit Orientations, Personal Training, Itasca Running
Club, Indoor Cycling, Teen Fitness, Group Fitness classes including Zumba,
Kickboxing, Yoga, Pilates and more!! The Fitness Center is home to 9 Precor
Treadmills, 9 Total Body Ellipticals and 23 more diverse pieces of fitness equipment. The newest additions are coming this November 2011: 12 strength equipment machines, 1 Three-Way Olympic Bench/Bar and Plates, 3 Multi-Angled
Benches, 1 TAG Multi-Purpose Power Cage Rack and Dumbbells 1-100 lbs, as well
as Plate Weights up to 3,000 lbs.
Join us on Saturday, January 21st from
1-3pm to celebrate the Itasca Recreation
& Fitness Center’s 20 Year
Anniversary!!!!!!!!!

program quicker...
than everyone waiting until the last minute to register for it. There is a point where if
there aren’t enough registrants to hold the program, it is cancelled. Coming in the day
of or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register one week early to
avoid disappointment.

following guidelines have been developed to help make Itasca Park District programs
safe and enjoyable for all participants. The Park District reserves the right to develop

I Heard a Red-Winged Blackbird
Conklareee! Conklareee! You have probably heard this familiar vocalization
signaling the beginning of spring. One of the most common birds found in
Illinois, the Red-Winged Blackbird, is one of the first birds we hear upon their return from
migration. The males fly home earlier than the females and resonate their calls while
claiming their territories and waiting in anticipation for a mate! Come out and discover
what being a Red-Winged Blackbird is like! (CC)

be applied to another class or a voucher given for future use.
Insurance Policy
The Itasca Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while
participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The park district,
therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in
recreation programs or using facilities. Persons are advised to make provisions for this
coverage in their family insurance program.
Complete details of program policies, procedures and guidelines are
sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations.
Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur as
well. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank
you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.
Fee Information
Due to liability concerns, all individuals wishing to participate in any park district program
must pay the registration fee listed in the brochure prior to the start of the first class. Any
individual who is unable to pay the registration fee must contact the Superintendent of
Recreation to set up a payment plan. No phone registration will be accepted. Individuals
not paying full program registration fee or those on payment plans will
be assessed a 10% service charge if any payment is late.
Itasca Recreation Center Rental
The Itasca Recreation Center may be reserved for private use during non-program hours.
Groups and individuals should contact the park district at 630-773-2257 or visit
www.itasca.com/rentals for more information. A Security Deposit is required in order
to hold a date. If cancellation occurs within 10 days prior to rental, deposit will be
retained. See contract for refund policies.
Cooperation
The park district wishes to acknowledge the cooperation of the Village of Itasca and the
Itasca School District #10 for enabling the park district to provide numerous year-round
recreational activities. The park district is permitted to use the school facilities when not
used by the schools. For this reason there may be occasional changes in the schedule.
Senior Citizens
Senior Citizen rates apply to those 60 years and older.
