MISSION
The mission of Jr. Music Executive is to inspire high school and college students in
urban environments to pursue higher education, set goals, and reach their full
potential by exposing them to careers in the music business. The organization
achieves this mission by providing students with the appropriate tools, resources,
education, mentoring, and internship opportunities essential to successful entrance
into the entertainment business. By creating interactive programs, Jr. Music
Executive is able to promote self-confidence, encourage peer mentoring, and
increase students’ value of education. Our programs also provide a support system
that fosters life and job skills for underserved minority youth populations.
th
Now in its 4 year, Jr. Music Executive provides education and opportunities for
aspiring artists and executives. Since our formation in May 2004 we have mentored

HISTORY
Jr. Music Executive was formed in May 2004 to help students learn about the
business side of the music industry and obtain jobs. The launch event was a “Music
Is My Business” workshop held in Philadelphia at the Broad Street YMCA on October
26, 2004 with over 50 students. In October 2005 an 8-week internship program was
launched to teach students more about the music business.
The organization currently offers students workshops, internships, networking events,
and scholarships. In April 2006 a website was launched to provide students across
the country with accurate information about careers and opportunities in the music
business. In 2009 the organization received 501(c)(3) non-profit status as a charitable
organization operating in Pennsylvania.

Jr. Music Executive Overview
Developing Entertainment Industry Leaders of Tomorrow

PURPOSE
Jr. Music Executive was developed in response to the growing number of youth who lack interest in school, but are
fascinated with careers in music. Only half of our nation's minority students complete high school within a four-year period.
The graduation rates for Black and Latino males are even lower. Every 29 seconds a student in America gives up on school;
more than 1 million students are dropping out EACH year.
With the popularity of Hip-Hop Executives such as Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, and Puffy there is a new desire for inner city
youth to become CEOs and entrepreneurs. Often youth do not make the connection between what they learn in school and
how to achieve their dreams. Not to mention, there is not enough accurate information or resources available for teens to
pursue a career in entertainment. Jr. Music Executive seeks to make the connection between education and success within
the music industry (or any business).
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
• Inspire youth to pursue higher education, set goals, and reach their full potential
• Expose youth to viable career opportunities in the entertainment industry
• Ensure that youth desiring an entertainment career are informed and prepared
• Provide access to resources
• Reach and recover "at-risk" populations
PROGRAMS
Internship Program | 8 week program for 15 high school and college students
A weekly program offered in the Fall and Spring that provides students with hands on experience in promoting artists and
events. This extremely competitive internship is for highly motivated and focused high school and college students.
Students are provided access to decision-making industry executives through trips, projects, volunteer opportunities, and
guest speakers. Over 100 careers are discussed in the program.
Insiders: Music Execs Speak | monthly for 100 high school students
rd
A monthly speaker series held on the 3 Wednesday of each month to allow students to network and learn about specific
music industry fields. Some topics include: Radio & Promotions, Marketing & Management, and Production & Songwriting.
Youth Media & Music Conference | 2 day event for 200 high school students
A unique annual conference created to explore the business and creative aspects of music, television and the media.
Youth are given a glimpse at viable career opportunities in industries that fascinate them. The conference includes
performances, workshops, vendors, and demo review.
Scholarships
Active Jr. Music Executive students are eligible to receive funding for membership to professional music organizations,
equipment, and educational materials (conference fees, tuition, and books).
Cheese Bus Trips
The world outside of Philadelphia has a lot to offer. Active students are invited to visit music related sites in the city and
out of town. Past trips have included BET studio, record labels, radio stations, and a CD manufacturing plant.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
In an effort to provide high school and college students with accurate information about the music business we created a
website (www.jrmusicexec.com), newsletter (The Biz EXCLUSIVES), and resource guide. Our students compile and select
the content for the website and our publications. Resource rooms have also been established at local community centers
and “Music Is My Business” presentations are given for groups of 20 or more that want a 30-minute interactive introduction to
the entertainment industry. Our community outreach resources are available to students free of charge.

TESTIMONIALS
Deneia Freeman – Student, St. John’s University
“I was a student of the Jr. Music Exec Program in 2007; although I am away at school I still consider myself a student of Ms.
Aisha. The program had such an impact on my life regarding my academic goals, career goals, and my development as a
young woman. Please support Jr. Music Executive’s Program.”
Dorothy McCaden – Joseph McCaden’s Mom and Director of Education, CHI Institute
“The Jr. Music Executive Program has provided opportunities and exposure to the music industry that my son would not
have been able to achieve on his own. Ms. Winfield's passion for the music industry, her desire to provide education about
the music industry to young people and her vision, is showcased via the Jr. Music Executive Program. In the two years that
my son has been a member of the program, he has attained basic music industry knowledge, met high level music industry
execs and entertainers, participated in workshops that taught him how to pursue a career in the industry. Most important,
however, is the opportunity he had to engage with other young people, in a positive atmosphere where each student in the
program was a "star". As a parent, I want to say, Thank you, " Ms. Aisha", for your vision.”
