The golf season is now upon us, with
eager golfers ready to hit the greens in the
Annual Chamber “More Than Just Golf
Scramble” on Friday, June 5.
This year’s event is planned at Captain’s Club at Woodfield in Grand Blanc.
Check-in will be at 8 a.m. with a shotgun
start at 9 a.m.
“We sell out every year,” said Chamber Executive Director Shelly Day. An
all-inclusive golf package includes 18
holes of golf with cart, breakfast, lunch
and dinner, awards and prizes, plus entry
into these contests:
• $2,500 50-foot Putt, sponsored by Vic
Canever Chevrolet of Fenton. Every
golfer’s name will be entered into a
drawing. Prior to the shotgun start, one
woman’s and one man’s name will be
drawn for a chance to sink a 50-foot putt
and win $2,500.

The Gus Macker Tourney may be
all about basketball, but for the Fenton
Regional Chamber of Commerce, it’s a
business opportunity designed to showcase Linden to visitors from throughout
the state of Michigan.
“We want to bring a crowd to Linden
and put it ‘on the map’ for people,”
said Shelly Day, Chamber executive
director.
Linden will host its first-ever Gus
Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney on
Friday and Saturday, June 26-27 outdoors at Hyatt and Linden Elementary
Schools. “We’re partnering with Linden
schools to bring this event to Linden,”
said Day who has been working with

Chairman
By Chelsea Mills
It is a great honor to serve as your
Chairman for 2015. Along with our
outstanding staff and dedicated board
members, our Chamber represents a
network of businesses and individuals
working together to Grow Business in
our community. This is our mission
and ultimately what makes this a great
community to live, work and play.
The sign of any stable and successful
organization is continued improvement year after year. Our Chamber
is no different. Each New Year has
brought record attendance, new and
exciting events and growth in membership. The Fenton Regional Chamber of
Commerce continues to innovate and
evaluate itself, making it one of the
most successful, stable and influential
chambers in the state of Michigan. We
were awarded the Outstanding Chamber Award for a second time because
of our accomplishments.
This year represents a year of growth
in our community. With the new
streetscape project, our new chamber
building, the Spain trip and our Chamber bringing the Gus Macker to Linden
are all big projects, which we are investing in to make our region a destination
and grow our local economies. Strong
leadership is the difference in good and
great communities; the stakeholders involved and decisions we are making this
year are designed to propel us forward
for years to come.
Please join us at one of our events
this year. All you have to do is show
up, we’ll take care of the rest. If you
have questions, ideas or concerns, I
welcome your input. My email is
[email protected].
— All the best,
Chelsea Mills

Battle by local firemen.
The Keepers of the Shiawassee will
perform a Kayak Demo on the banks of the
Shiawassee River. Arts and craft vendors
will exhibit and sell their wares, amidst
a backdrop of music by local groups
that will fill the downtown area all day.
New this year will be a Dessert Tent
presented by a local civic organization
— the backbone of the festival’s success
year after year. The festival will end
with the sights and sounds of its popular
Fireworks Show held at 10 p.m., drawing
about 25,000 visitors.
“The Freedom Festival is alive and
well in downtown Fenton,” said Lockwood.
Watch for more updates on an alternate
route for the Freedom Festival Road Race.
The Fenton Freedom Festival will
celebrate its 25th Anniversary this summer, with as many activities still planned
downtown as possible.
“Everything is still going to be downtown, either on the lawn of the Fenton
Community Center or inside,” said Festival Chairman

Membership Director
Report
BOARD of DIRECTORS
CHAIRMAN
By Shelby Skinner
Chelsea Mills
Membership director’s report
This year the Chamber presented
the largest Fenton Community Expo
in 31 years of organizing the event.
In addition, we have welcomed 34
new members as of Jan. 1. Compared to this time last year, we have
DOUBLED our new members! See
the graph below comparing our new
member totals from this time last
year to now.
As a Chamber, we value our
membership and we value their
involvement. When we have great
member participation, it speaks to the
true worth of membership with the
Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce. The more involved our members are, the more we as a Chamber
can understand how best to become
a part of their business strategy. I do
not think it is a coincidence that we
have experienced a huge increase in
new members AND the largest Expo
we have ever hosted. I truly believe
our members recognize the value of
belonging to such an active Chamber. This only goes to show that the
more we can offer our members the
more value they receive with their
investment.
As a Chamber, our growth is reflected through membership; which
is why we will continue to strive to
offer more benefits and to remain a
significant part of the business community. When you think business,
think Chamber!

“We’ll be the organizing body to

schools are providing the property to
hold it and the volunteers to help run
the event through their athletic and
groups. They will get a monetary
donation back to the group and we
plan to put some money back into
the Chamber program and events.”
This Gus Macker event will replace Linden’s former summer festivals, Linden Summer Happening
and Linden Mills Days, at least for
the near future. It’s a three-year commitment to operate a Gus Macker
Tourney in a community.
Even if you’re not into basketball,
you’ll find something to enjoy on this
summer weekend of fun. A Kids’

in Linden:
• On the LaFontaine property,
also known as Union Block, at the

downtown.
• At Ace Village Hardware, 620
