“KALAKBAY”
Maraming salamat po sa inyong pagtangkilik sa
TINIG. Ang marinig ang inyong mga papuri para
sa nakaraang edisyon ay maituturing nang isang
personal na tagumpay.
Bangko Kabayan: EAGLE
AWARDEE for the 7th TIME
By: Ana Karmela Amante (Marketing)
mga “summer outings” at “get together”.

BK joins MABS National Round Table Conference
For the 7th time, BK again
bested 70 participating rural
banks nationwide, when it was
hailed the only Eagle Achievement Awardee for 2011 by the
Rural Bankers Association of
the Philippines Microenterprise
Access to Banking Services
(RBAP-MABS). BK likewise
received the Eagle Award in the
years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006,
2007, and 2010.
MABS National
Roundtable 2012
Eagle Awards is MABS' way of
recognizing its outstanding partner rural banks. MABS conducts an annual assessment of
the performance of its participating banks particularly in the
area of Microfinance based on
the bank's Efficiency, Asset
Quality, Growth, Liability Structure, and Earnings (EAGLE).
Those that met MABS standards for excellence are awarded
the Eagle Achievement Award.
The results of the annual assessment are presented to the rural
banks with a score card format
including written analysis and
recommendations for improvement.
The conference kicked-off with
an opening remarks from RBAP
President, Mr. Ian Eric Pama. In
his speech, Mr. Pama emphasized the words, “Help me help
you”, which, according to him,
should be one of the how-to’s
towards the relationship of a
microfinance officer and the
client.
The Plaque of Recognition was
awarded to BK during the 15th
Round Table Conference held
on June 7, 2012 at the Hyatt
Hotel in Manila. The 7th EAGLE is particularly memorable
because it is the last award ever
that MABS is giving before the
program finally folds out in September this year.
“RBAP-MABS @ 15”. This was
the theme for this year’s RBAPMABS NRT Conference as the
program not only celebrates its
15th year anniversary but its 15
years of continuous support
from the United States Agency
for International Development
(USAID)/Philippines as well.
This was followed by the Keynote Address of Chuchi G.
Fonacier, Managing Director,
Supervision & Examination
Subsector II of Bangko Sentral
ng Pilipinas (BSP). After which,
Session 1 about Price Transparency was facilitated by Gerardo
Butardo, Acting Deputy Director, MSME Finance Specialist
of BSP. For session 2 entitled
“Eagle Scorecard 2011”, it was
facilitated by Jennifer Sabianan,
Microfinance
Specialist
of
MABS, Vivian Lim, Human
Resource Director of First Valley Bank, and Teresa Ganzon,
Managing Director for Strategic
Planning – BK.

CBS Team
at a Glance
By: Mary Frances Bathan (CBS)
It’s been more than six months since we became
part of the CBS team and still a lot of our curious
BK friends keep on asking what we are doing.
What does CBS stand for? What happens soon?
CBS stands for Core Banking System and this is
what we are working for as a team. Our team
(Josephine Caraig, Cheryl Mangubat, Merlita Miguel, Vic Gutierrez, Maria Genelyn Dimaculangan, May Ilustre and yours truly) was formed to
be part of the Support group who will work on
BK's migration to a new and highly sophisticated
on-line computer system. All of these will not be
possible without the help and support from our
department head, Ms. Ollie Perez, and the rest of
the MIS team, who have been very supportive of
us since day one.
Last June 4-15, 2012, a 2-week Core team training
was held at the Data Center with representatives
from the Operations, Accounting and Audit department and was facilitated by Mr. Norman
Santiago of Infopro. This system training covered
the CIF, CA/SA, FD and GL modules. The
course objective is to provide a comprehensive
understanding of the ICBA banking application,
its functions, system features and operation workflows wherein after every discussion participant
was given time to apply the knowledge acquired
through hands-on exercises. This training will be
our reference in coming up with a User’s Guide
that will be used during the End User Training
(EUT) and will basically be our guide for the rest
of the project implementation.
The team has been doing a lot of preparation for
this project. To be part of this is very challenging.
It requires a lot of extra time and effort. But who
said we cannot mix work with pleasure? Good
thing that despite the busy schedule, the team can
still manage to balance time for work and fun.
This project is a work in progress. Nothing is
definite for now until it finally goes live. But we
can only expect another level of providing a more
improved system and a more efficient service to
our beloved clients.

Eat, Pray, Love...
By: Neil Marundan
ast March 27 was the start of my
adventure to Rome. I was chosen to attend a religious formation
organized by the volunteers of Focolare. At first I was hesitant to go. I
had many worries on my mind - from
the expenses, the language, the food,
the weather, and the religious formation itself. But then, I realized this
trip will allow me to experience new
things. Like getting out of my
comfort zone.
It took a total of eighteen (18) hours
of travel by plane to reach the land of
wine, pasta, and pizza. It was long but
“sobrang sulit naman”.
One of the things I noticed first was
the architectural design of the buildings and its surroundings. Old, some
are ruined, forgotten and were tested
by the passing of many decades. Like
in the Julia Roberts' movie with the
same title, these buildings never fail
to catch the attention and appreciation of the tourists. When you actually see in person the St. Peter’s
Church, Colosseum, and many old
buildings, you cannot help but love
them. For me, it was an opportunity
to stop for a while, reflect and recognize their unique beauty. A tourist in
Rome like me couldn't help but adore
these magnificent buildings.
Those structures may have their own
imperfections, hurts, and history but
people from all walks of life longs to
see them. As Vance Havner says:
“God uses broken things”. It takes a
broken soil to produce a crop; broken
clouds that give rain; broken grain
that produces bread, and a broken
bread that gives strength. It is the
broken alabaster box that gives forth
perfume.
Life on earth is heaven if only mutual
love and acceptance would be the
culture of everyone. I guess this is the
reason why God made us all different
from each other. In these differences
showed our opportunity to love and
respect each one. Pride leads us to
love ourselves first and be alienated
from our neighbors and to the rest of
humanity. Love, kindness, generosity,
truthfulness and humility are some of
the virtues all of us can practice. As
mere humans, we are not perfect. All
of us have our own weaknesses and
deformity which can be likened to
those grand structures in Rome. God
uses mightily those who have been
hurt deeply and in this respect, being
broken could be a blessing.
It was the same when I finally saw the
community of Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement. The
culture of loving is very visible in
each and every person I met. At some
point though, I felt I was not worthy
of their kind treatment. Despite the
differences in the language, culture,
and religion, this people taught me
how to accept everyone. The word
“tutti” in Italian means “everybody”,
and everyone has this mutual love
and respect for each other. The presence of Jesus inside the Mariapolis
Center is really amazing.
The food is really great in Rome!
Pasta with basil and olive oil; soup
with black beans with bread as hard
as stone with “burro” (means butter).
I drank “gasata” water (like a gasflavored mineral water was how it
tasted!). It was fun and it was worth
it! With all the kindness I received
inside the Mariapolis Center at Castel
Gandolfo, I truly felt humbled. You
can actually see and feel that God is
really present in each and every person.
Our struggles in life is an opportunity
to recognize the presence of God. My
trip to Rome taught me to see and
experience the true meaning of love;
to recognize God in each present
moment. To accept everyone for who
they are is also like God accepting us
and loving us unconditionally.
Who knows, you could be the next
person to eat, pray, and love in
Rome.

IRBFI: BK Heart and Soul
(TINIG interview with the New Executive Director of Ibaan Rural Bank Foundation Inc.)
By: Gerneil Rivera
OMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – one
of the five (5) BK core values that all of
us are trying to live by in different ways.
BK, through the various programs of
the IRBFI, gives us a glimpse of how
every opportunity is taken in order to
practice this core value.
1. Who is the new Executve Director
of Ibaan Rural Bank Foundation Inc.
(IRBFI)?
Alexis S. Partoza is a person who lives
his life in the present moment with and
for the people around him. He is an "ex
-sem" as others would call him, having
studied in the seminary for eight years.
However, he then left the seminary to
answer God's call for another vocation .
He now joins us to serve the interests of
the needy under the roof of the IRBFI.
2. How do you feel as the new
IRBFI Executive Director?
I feel blessed. I am in the point of realization that I am here for a purpose. I
know that there's a lot to do, for us to
address and to meet the needs of different communities.
3. What is the role of the Foundation
in the operations of BK?
Let's go back to the mission and vision
of IRBFI. IRBFI is BK's partner in developing countryside by providing funding and other necessities for the promotion of enterpreneurship and growth
specially in micro and small enterprises,
campaign for sustainable development
and value formation among employees,
clients, stockholders, and community.
Its mission is to inculcate and to
strengthen the culture of sharing among
its stakeholders by supporting the
growth and advancement of the rural
community where Bangko Kabayan
operates.
It is very true that the incorporators of
the Foundation way back 1996, Anno
Domini, believed that IRBFI would promote, assist, undertake and maintain
programs, projects, or enterprises for
the upliftment and development of all
individuals and communities regardless
of race, creed, or religion under its care.
4. What are the programs of the IRBFI?
The major programs of IRBFI are:
a. SCHOLARSHIP – we have 7 scholars, all in college level. Three (3) of
them are already in 4th year level; one
(1) in 3rd year; two (2) in 2nd year; and
one (1) in 1st year.
b. ENTREP – ESKWELA – a program
for entrepreneurship and management.
It started last 2008 and has been rolled
out in Cuenca, Rosario, San Jose, Mabini
and Calaca.
c. ADOPT – A – SCHOOL PROGRAM – right now in cooperation with
Bangko Kabayan, the Foundation supports TEN MOVES!(The Entire Nation
MOVES!) by the Department of Education to raise fund in order to build
10,000 classrooms by the year 2013.
d. LIVELIHOOD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE – in living its mission, the
Foundation studies and plans how to
help micro, small and medium
enterprises in sustaining their business
and lives.
5. Is there an organization
being supported by IRBFI?
Yes, it is Atikha Overseas
Workers and Communities
Initiative, Inc. (Atikha) which
has established a program for
children of migrant workers in
response to the growing social
cost brought about by feminization of migration. It is very
fulfilling seeing the children of
OFWs become aware of their
parents' situation abroad, and
their responsibility to spend
wisely and to save the money
coming from the sweat and
blood of their parents.
6. Aside from you who are the key
persons being involved in this unit?
For almost 16 years of the existence of
the foundation, it is noteworthy to give
the names behind the (foundation)legacy
of the Foundation.
The past Executive Directors are:
Ms. Violeta Echague
Ms. Fides Ganzon – Ofrecio
Ms. Mary Ann Olan
Ms. Cristina Ganzon
Ms. Belen Velasquez
At present, here are the persons behind
the name of Ibaan Rural Bank Foundation Inc.: Ms. Teresa M. Ganzon is the
President of the Foundation, Ms. Rose
acts as the treasurer; Mr. Neil Marundan
and Mr. Gerneil Rivera give support to
the foundation, the scholars and of
course our BK volunteers who are always there to sacrifice and share their
time and effort for the needy.
7. How can the employees support
IRBFI?
By being a part of IRBFI as volunteers!
There's always an existing challenge for
everyone to live naturally with and for
others as social human beings. IRBFI
encourages everyone to live not (to live)
just by instincts, but to live because of
love, and to love in order to live. The
Foundation promotes volunteerism,
involvement, and active participation
among BK employees, staff and management for its outreach activities and
programs. May this culture of sharing
and loving spread among all of us
everyday. 

TIDBITS
S.H.E
Significant Human Experience
By: Jennilyn Baculo (BDU)
Koinonia: Dulot
ay Pagbabago
Ang buhay ko noon ay magulo at
masalimuot. Marami akong tanong
na hindi ko mahanapan ng kasagutan. May mga agam-agam na
pinipilit kong alisin at kalimutan.

Great Experience
at Mariapolis
By: Evangeline Andal (Audit)
When I was invited to join the Mariapolis for a Focolare Movement , I was hesitant to join because 1 st, I
have no idea on that organization and 2nd I have to
leave on Friday because the event was good for 3 days
w/c was from April 27-29, 2012 (Friday- Sunday) at
Tagaytay City. But due to curiosity, I decided to join.
Upon arrival at the venue, there was one thing I noticed on the faces of people I encountered, they all
wear gratifying smile. Another thing that I observed
was the band which gave sign that the program was
about to start and sometimes gave intermission number. The first activity on the first day was sharing acts
of love of each group from different places. It was like
sharing their charitable acts to other people whether
financial, emotional or spiritual. The afternoon activity
made the intensity high. All walks of life were encouraged to dance. At
that moment, I
could see them with
young heart and full
of happiness.
In line activities on
the second day were
also full of fun and
excitement. We had
group sharing where the topic was about the things
you want to stop, start and continue. We also played
different kinds of “Palarong Pinoy” that were so enjoying and refreshing. These activities gave us the
opportunity to be acquainted with each other. Evening came and we were all amazed with the presentation of Gens. Everyone starting from 2 y/o and above
gave their full efforts and energy just to make the audience mesmerized. I think the enthusiasm to perform
came from their inspiration to offer their talents to
God. They were all talented and never kept their talents on themselves.
The third and
last day was a
little bit sad
because we
had to bid
goodbye with
the
new
friends. Nevertheless, it
was just a dot
compared
with the overflowing happiness inside our hearts. The
good deeds of Chiara Lubich (founder of Focolare)
that were instilled into our minds and hearts will always
be treasured. I know that she just started the act of
love but it's up to us to continue its power. UNO! 
BRANCH & DEPARTMENT UPDATES
“Green Day”: Microfinance
Teambuilding 2012
By: Ellaine Yabyabin (Microfinance)
Isang sama-samang gawain o “Green
Day” ang ginanap sa Matabungkay
Beach Resort and Hotel sa Lian
Naiibang “Green
Day at Team Building” ang isinagawa
na pinamunuan ni Rev. Fr. Carlos
“Caloy” P. Paglicawan. Ang nasabing “Team Building” ay hindi
upang magtagisan ng lakas at galing
sa stratehiya upang manalo sa bawat
palaro bagkus ito ay upang pagtibayin
ang pagkakaisa at tiwala sa bawat isa
bagamat nagmula sila sa iba’t ibang
sangay ng Bangko Kabayan.
Ang mga palaro ay may kinalaman sa
kahalagan ng pagrespeto at pagtingin
sa kabutihan ng ating kapwa. Sa
unang larong “1-7” ay natutunan ng
mga AO ang pagiging sensitibo at
tamang pamamaraan ng pakikiramdam at pakikinig. Isa pang activity–
“Are you god?”, sinubok hanapin ng
lahat kung sino ang assigned “God”
habang nakapiring ang mga mata.
Ang mga aral na natutunan dito ay:
dumadaan ang lahat sa
mga pagsubok habang
patuloy na inaabot ang
mga layunin sa buhay,
mahalaga ang ating
kapwa o ang “iba” na
tumutulong sa atin sa
pag-abot ng mga pangarap at maraming tukso
ang kailangan nating
mapaglabanan
upang
tayo ay maging mabuting
tao.
iyon.
Pagkatapos ng tanghalian, kasabay ng
pagbuhos ng malakas na ulan ay ang
malakas na tawanan at walang katapusang kwentuhan. Ang bawat isa’y
may kanya-kanyang pinagkaabalahan, mayroong nagkantahan, naligo
sa dagat, naglaro ng basketbol, batuhang bola, prisoner, at marami pang
iba.
dedikasyon
at sipag sa
kanilang trabaho. Muli
ay pumili ng
tinaguriang
“Excellent
and Promising Account
Officers”
Department. 
The New
Audit Team
By: Jenniline Abratique (Audit)
In 2011, a new team of young, hopeful individuals has emerged to complete an already
successful internal audit department of Bangko
Kabayan. Currently led and supervised by an
admirable young man, Mr. Patrick John K.
Vergara, who took the reins in February 2012,
and with Leorym De Ocampo, Noelyn Pascual,
Evangeline Andal, Lualdee Mae De Villa, and
yours truly as members, the team started this
journey of strengthening the bank's internal
audit, functioning foremost to assure that
proper internal control is in place.
A lot have already happened this year. Branch
audit has already reached half-way. All of us in
the team have undergone both internal and
external trainings as well to help us understand
more the relevance and contribution of internal
audit in the vitality of the bank. We have gone
to branches in order for management to see
the former's actual situation through us. We
argued, we affirmed, we were humbled, we
learned, we had been giving advice since then,
we found new friends, we were tired. But on
top of it all, we had fun.
If we seem unfaltering during audit, it is because we do not want to behave in any way
that would create an impression of diminished
independence. We do not want to besmirch the
integrity that our function requires of us. Yes,
you can liken us to policemen because we may
look frightening and intimidating for some. But
we are also friends. We are also individuals,
and most importantly, we are BK employees
who, like everyone else, want to contribute to
the upliftment of our bank. Our relationship
may get rough due to work-related circumstances, but be assured of this, at the end of
the day, we share one common mission and
vision.
We are united by the values that Bangko Kabayan has instilled in each one of us. 

BK Implements
ATM Payroll
By: Mariedol Guerra (HRD)
Looking at the advantages of using ATM card,
last June 2012, Bangko Kabayan started using
BPI ATM Card for payroll disbursement. Many
factors were considered before shifting to a
new mode of disbursement, one of those is the
confidentiality of employees’ net pays. Previously, over-the-counter withdrawals are being
practiced, wherein tellers can view the employees’ net pays. With the use of ATM card, the
confidentiality of payroll is being addressed.
Another thing is to lessen BK tellers’ transaction to give way for the external clients.
BK employees embrace the changes that technology brings to their lives. With ATM cards,
BK employees can enjoy payroll withdrawals
even on weekends; online shopping; and bills
payment even at home. They can also view and
check their accounts details by logging in at
BPI website. For other concerns, please contact HRD. 
