Why Choose Zebra Over Roll-out Mats?
SuperiorSpecs
• Dimensions: 39.4in. x 78.8in. (1m x 2m)
• Cover: 19oz. PVC vinyl with woven polyester backing directly bonded to core.
• Core: 12-15lb./cu. ft. density re-bonded foam.
• Seal: Thermally sealed on all surfaces to resist moisture absorption.
• Underside: High-grade 29oz., waffle patterned, latex rubber anti-slip material directly bonded
to sealed mat.
• Warranty: 3-year full warranty against manufacturing defects; 6-year limited warranty.
• Performance/Safety: Meets or exceeds the specifications of the International Judo Federation for
use in competitions; tested for flammability per ASTM E 648-99 and meets NFPA 101 Class II
for flame spread.
SuperiorTechnology
• Zebra Mats are made with 12-15lb./cu. ft. density re-bonded foam core. The roll-out mat is made
with an approximate 2lb. density foam core. Therefore, Zebra Mats have up to 7.5 times more
foam per cubic foot! This leads to a safer and more shock absorbent mat.
• Zebra Mats utilize an open cell foam technology, which is not affected by temperature changes.
Roll-out mats use a closed cell technology, meaning they contain tiny air bubbles inside, and they
expand in the heat and shrink in the cold. Also, because of their closed cell construction, when
a force hits a roll-out mat, one of two things occurs: (1) The mat rejects the force, and the falling
object (person) absorbs most of the shock and is repelled. (2) The mat compresses so much that
the air bubbles burst and break down. The air will never come back because the cell (air pocket)
is permanently damaged. When an object falls on a Zebra Mat, the mat compresses and absorbs
the shock (open cell technology allows air to rush out). When the object is removed from the mat,
air rushes back in and the mat regains its full shape and firmness.
• The Zebra Mat surface is made with a 19oz. durable vinyl that is resistant to tears and provides
both superb performance and sure footedness. The roll-out mat’s tatami surface is very rough and
abrasive, while its smooth surface option is very slippery when wet.
• Zebra Mats are environmentally friendly – their foam cores are made of 100% recycled products.
Zebra Mat
SuperiorWorkmanship
• The Zebra Mat is fully sealed to prevent the elements from getting into the foam of the mat.
The roll-out mat has three sides of fully exposed foam.
• Zebra Mats don’t need Velcro or tape. Roll-out mats need to be taped together. Although
they claim to be “seamless”, there are seams every 6ft. that need to be taped, and retaped very often. When Zebra Mats are laid wall to wall, or a simple, inexpensive mat
frame is used, the Zebra Mat system is the best performing solution on the market.
• Zebra Mats will last 10-15 years, whereas roll-out mats will only last 3-4 years before
needing to be replaced.
SuperiorChoice
Roll-out Mat
• If a roll-out mat gets damaged, an entire 40ft. roll needs to be replaced (expensive).
If you damage a Zebra Mat, one small 1m x 2m section can be replaced (inexpensive).
• If you expand your facility, you can easily add a few more Zebra Mats to your floor to
increase square footage. If you move locations, you can easily pick up your Zebra Mats
and take them with you. With a roll-out mat system, you will need to re-fit your entire gym
if custom cutting is involved. Zebra Mats can be cut to fit any size area per recommended
cutting instructions.
• Zebra Mats were designed specifically for use in commercial grade, professional martial
arts facilities. Roll-out mats were designed specifically for use in temporary wrestling
facilities where mats need to be moved daily. Why sacrifice safety, durability, and
performance for portability when you plan to use them permanently?
