In the October issue of Exposed, a piece of tattoo art was incorrectly credited as being by Landon Green of Viva Tattooing.
The artist credited should have been Thomas Titus of Top Cat Tattoo. Exposed regrets the error.

LETTERS
Tattoo artists deserve to be properly credited for their work
Guitarist demonstrates ‘lack of gratitude’
Dear Editor,
First let me start off by saying that Exposed is a great magazine! I really enjoy reading it!
As for the article in the first issue of the magazine with Ruben on the cover, I have seen
the band Bakkus perform on a couple different occasions and found them to be very
entertaining! After reading Jeffrey Johnson’s article about the guitarist, I was intending
on seeing this band even more. I thought his article was very well written and seemingly
depicted an artist who loved what he does. Therefore I find myself very astonished to
read Mr. Ruben’s letter to the editor! The complete lack of gratitude floors me! I would
think that the only response this man would have would be pure appreciation for
someone writing an article that was nothing but respectful and ego boosting!
As a body art i.e. tattoo fanatic, I was thrilled to se your feature article in Oct. ’07 showcasing Rochester’s finer artists in this field. While tattooing has been around longer then
Christ (Otzi the Iceman circa 3300 BC) the acceptance of wearing this art has not always
been, especially here in the Midwest, and in such a conservative city as ours.
I was shocked however to see a familiar piece being miscredited to the wrong artist, even
the wrong shop! A tattoo artist must have skill, originality, and the ability to work with
a variety of clientele. With originality being the key word, artist Thomas Titus, owner of
Top Cat Tattoo, deserves to have his name behind his work. Please let it be known and
corrected that the black and gray dragon; bottom of page 16 Oct. ’07 does not belong to
a Landon Green of Viva but to Mr. Titus.
Fine attention to detail is what this art form is about. Without it, each artist’s own style
and ability wouldn’t matter. Original pieces wouldn’t exist and we would all have the
same flash. Please be more careful in your attention to detail in the future. Otherwise,
I believe you did a fine job at getting behind the scenes of the body art that is tattooing
and into the public eye.
Thank you,
Jen E.
As to the issue of the cover of the magazine, I am again astonished by Ruben’s response.
I am no expert, however, it appeared to me that Jeffrey Johnson was inserting his own
opinion with that cover. What higher praise could an artist receive! My question is this
… Are you more upset about the musical community picking on you about being
the perfect guitarist and you can’t take that pressure or is it that you really think that
of yourself and are upset that people might find out that you are not the humble artist
you depict yourself to be Mr. Ruben? All in all, I think any artist in this town should
definitely be happy to do an interview with Jeffrey Johnson. His articles are very professional and nothing short of entertaining!

MUSING ABOUT
By Sarah Shonyo
••
Life with
meant “Don’t you dare touch the box of cereal to my left.
Don’t even look at it. Go sleep on the couch.”
I was pretty sure Lassie never tried to rip off one of Timmy’s limbs.
From what I understood at the time, dogs were supposed to
frolic through fields with tennis balls and squeaky newspapers. My feeble attempts at teaching Lady to fetch never
flourished beyond the squeaky newspaper being thrown.
I had yet to see her actively pursue anything other than a
Mormon.
One of my favorite pictures that I have
of my dog, Lady, shows her decked out
in a Santa suit and matching hat. The
photo was taken just moments before
she ripped the bells from her gold
booties and ate them.
Yup. I’m one of those people. I am shamelessly amused by
dogs in clothing and was more than thrilled to learn that
Lady loves wearing sweaters as much as I love buying them.
Seriously.
Despite being an agreeable sweater-model, Lady admittedly has a few anger management issues - 96 percent of
which are directed toward men. Just ask the door-to-door
Mormon. The poor guy nearly had a coronary when a
pudgy ball of pink argyle and gnashing teeth came barreling around the corner. Fortunately, there was a glass door
separating my dog from a lawsuit.
I adore her, of course, and knew that adopting a shelter
dog with a questionable upbringing would leave all sorts of
room for excitement, particularly until I figured out “the
rules.”
For those of us who don’t speak Dog, the rules are learned
solely by trial and error and I had my first lesson several
days after bringing her home. Lady was perched on my
bed with her ears flat against her skull. I reached my hand
toward her and after nearly losing a finger and several
functional years of my life, I made note that this look
Among Lady’s classmates, the eldest was six months and the
closest thing to a mutt was a Pug/Beagle concoction called
a Puggle. Apparently if you can combine breeds to create a
name reminiscent of a Harry Potter character it’s no longer
considered a mutt.
“This is Lady,” I announced when it was our turn. “She’s a
black dog and she’ll be five in March.”
“Five months?” the instructor asked.
“Uh, years,” I mumbled.
Bad idea. Really, really bad idea.
Lady and I spent the next 10 weeks in class. We sat, stayed
and healed right along with the brightest of her inbred
peers. She eventually passed her doggy-proficiency test, received her doggy-diploma, and forgot absolutely everything
within the first week of doggy-graduation.
For reasons I can only begin to imagine, Lady acquired an
incorrigible fondness for body moisturizer. Bizarre? Sure,
but seemingly harmless.
I’ll be the first to admit that my dog is neither exceptionally
refined nor obedient. Then again, I’m sure the same has
been said about me.
That is, until I arrived home one night to an eerily quiet
house. I found Lady sitting in the back corner of my closet
with her eyes planted firmly at my feet. Why were her chin
hairs glistening?
That may explain quite a bit.
To her credit (and my stupidity), and because she showed
no interest in chewing on anything without a pulse, I
trusted her with the run of the house.
••
Oh, wow.
••
••
••
My dog had eaten (if that’s even the right verb) not only the
entire contents of a Vaseline jar, but the container as well.
It was after normal vet hours, so I Googled information on
canines ingesting petroleum jelly.
“The Vaseline didn’t hurt him,” one dog owner wrote, “but
it’s safe to say Buster’s got the cleanest colon on the block!”
••
I spent the next two days at Lady’s mercy, fearing that even
the slightest whimper, tummy rumble or strange look
meant she was about to unload the jar and its contents all
over herself.
At the suggestion of concerned (albeit amused) friends and
family, I signed Lady up for obedience school. In preparation
for her first day of class I brushed her teeth, combed her hair,
and momentarily considered putting her in a nice dress.
“Everyone go around the room and tell us the name, age,
and breed of your puppy,” the instructor said at our first
meeting.

Dear Dr. Date,

Patient Rebou
Dear Patient,
The problem is he has a girlfrie
nd now and he is “in love”
with her. I am far away and I don
’t really want a relationship
with him, but it’s fun when he’s
around. Should I delete him
from my life, try the just friends
thing, or should I continue
seeing him when he’s around and
not worry about his
relationship with his girlfriend?
It seems a bit too soon to ask her out on a date this soon after she had just gotten out of
Long Distance Lust
a relationship. It is important to let her have time to move on from her prior relationship before stating a new one. You want her to be over him before she
starts to get to know you.
Dear Luster,
••
••
While you wait for her move past her prior relationship, you can take time to get to know
her and build a base for a potential future. Spending time with her in a “non-date”
environment will help the two of you get to know each other on a level that will help
your potential relationship later on. Plus this will help you discover if your feelings for
her are real or not. This ‘get to know you’ period
will also help her realize her potential feelings for
you. Because if she does not see you as someone
she is interested in dating, then she is not going to
go out with you no matter how long you wait.
Be patient, your time will come. Worst-case
scenario, you’ll get a good friend out of the deal.
Easing the pressure off her will help your
chances of getting your first date
with her. In the words of the
Guns N’ Roses classic – all you
“need is a little patience … ”
Doc
As difficult as this is going to sound, if you care about him and his new relationship,
you should leave him be and move on with your life. It sounds like regardless of his
feelings for someone else, he is not able to resist you physically. That makes it your
role to resist him and stand strong. While the physical fun with him feels good each
time for you, the pain your flings could potentially cause this new girlfriend are just
not worth the risk. If you care for him let it go. Plus, do you really want a long distance
physical relationship that involves cheating? That sounds a bit too Springer to me.
Do you have feelings for him greater than just the physical? There has to be something
drawing you to him more than just the hot times the two of you have spent together.
If this was truly no strings attached it would seem you would worry about him and
what was happening with him a lot less. Plus if you didn’t have feelings for him, he
would be easier to let go. So, if you don’t, cut it loose. If you do have feelings for him,
maybe you should take a different angle with him and let him know that in the process
of hitting the sheets he has managed to hit your heart with some feelings that you were
not expecting.
Be honest with yourself, and then be honest with him. He deserves a chance to pursue
his relationship without distractions from you, regardless of how much he likes those
distractions.

I imagine that when my parents encouraged me to pursue a musical pastime,
this isn’t exactly what they had in mind.
••
The reasons behind my decision to perform “Black Velvet” at a drag show in
front of hundreds of people escape me at the moment. I’m guessing it had
something to do with the idea being discussed over a bottle of wine. Then
factor in my tendency toward making really bad decisions and suddenly I’m
a drag star.
••
••
I neither excel at nor particularly enjoy public performances; and the only
thing I know about the word “sultry” is that it’s worth at least nine points in
Scrabble.
Yes, it’s unusual - though not unheard of - for a heterosexual woman to
perform as a woman in a drag show. Drag conventions aside, the opportunity
to get a “behind the scenes” glimpse, per se, into the world of drag was not
something I was willing to pass up; even if that meant going under the eyeliner and doing something totally out of my realm of comfort.
Enter: Eva Label.

From conception to implementation, I had
one month to pull this off before going on stage
“What’s wrong with my eyebrows?” I asked as I raised a
hand to my forehead.
at Rookie’s Oct. 27. I figured I had at least one thing going
for me: biology. I was already a woman, so performing as
an exaggerated version of myself didn’t seem like such an
impossible feat.
“Well first of all, there should be two of them.”
Mmm hmm. That sense of security crapped the bed
approximately five minutes into my first coaching session
when I realized that my drag sage, Darren, had more femininity in his Adam’s apple than I had in my whole body.
Darren Wendt, also known as Sidonia Dudval, has been
performing as a drag queen since 2000. He has won more
awards and honors as Sidonia than I have as Sarah.
Once I scraped my pride from the bottom
of Darren’s shoe, we resumed the tutorial
and discussed the basics: make-up, shoes,
song options and clothing.
“Oh, honey,” Darren drawled sweetly, “we have GOT to do
something about those eyebrows.”
••
I briefly considered the repercussions of punching a drag
queen.

“I’m thinking about wearing my blueberry corset and
panties for one of my numbers,” Darren said, “so you can

After (and, perhaps, because of) a dismal first rehearsal, I
was more hell-bent than ever to get this right. I wanted to
perform comparable to those who have been doing drag
shows for years. I wanted to make my drag sage proud.
The weeks prior to D-Day (Drag Day) were a blur of high
heels, high hair, and piercingly high voices. I listened to
Black Velvet on repeat while mentally reviewing my performance, I practiced walking in my shoes by wearing them

to work, and I used the three-block stretch of sidewalk to

those of you who may have seen me and thought I’d lost
my marbles).
I even had my eyebrows waxed. It hurt.

Despite what seemed like endless preparation, the night before the show arrived
sooner than I had hoped. I was ordered to Darren and Rich’s house to work through some final details. I
would wear three dresses the following night: one to arrive
in, one for my performance, and a third for post-show
mingling. It was sort of reminiscent of playing dress-up as
a child, except this time my playmates shaved their beards
before putting on their dresses.
The pre-show plan was to meet at the hotel where Darren
would “paint” me (drag make-up application is referred
to as painting – a fairly telling indication of the process).
I went first because the amount of time needed to apply
my make-up was relatively short compared to my male
counterparts (covering freckles requires far less work than
covering facial stubble, apparently).
After tucking my short red hair into a long blonde wig,
attaching eyelashes so big they actually cast shadows on
my cheeks and setting my make-up with a blast of hair-
spray to the face, my facial transformation was complete.
So complete, in fact, that my face was nearly paralyzed
under the layers of foundation, powder and hairspray.
I really hoped I wasn’t going to start drooling.
Because my brand new red fingernails made dressing
myself nearly impossible, I was at the mercy of the queens
and their helpers. Somehow, among the chaos that was a
drag queen changing room, I was cinched into a corset,
shimmied into a pair of fishnets and slipped into the first
of three gorgeous dresses.
“Doors are open, ladies!” Rich yelled into our room.
“Time to go!”
Everyone around me was buzzing with excitement. I was
touching my chin to check for drool.
Fortunately, Darren was thinking ahead when he created
the line-up. I was in the first set, which significantly cut
the amount of time I would have to suffer while waiting.
While several of the other performers were listening to
their songs for practically the first time (I guess you can do
that when you’re a professional), I stationed myself behind
stage a good 15 minutes ahead of time just to make sure I
was in the right spot.
Here we go.

An amazing thing happened when those first chords of
“Black Velvet” streamed through the speaker system - my
mind went completely blank. I remember little about the
actual performance other than people kept offering me
dollar bills, I winked at my mother, and Darren came on
stage in a little black dress to hand me a beer.
I’m pretty sure those three things will never, ever happen
again. I didn’t even know I knew how to wink.
Before I had time to process what was
happening, I blew a kiss to the audience
(really, what?) and walked off stage.
The moment I stepped behind the curtain I felt a huge
weight – five weeks in the making – lift off my shoulders.
I couldn’t believe I actually made it through without
tripping, running off stage in tears, or resorting to my
air-guitar. And, judging by the reactions backstage, the
feelings of disbelief were mutual.
It’s hard to do justice in writing about such a surreal experience. While stepping outside of one’s comfort zone on
occasion can be a great thing, I think I’ll hang up my fishnets and leave future drag performances to the professionals. At least until I learn how to type in acrylic nails.

MY DEAL
By Jeffrey Johnson
The Musical Life of Ryans
••
Dave Ryan and Ryan Wacholz – aka R-Dubs, aka DJ King –
collaborate forming a unique sound and the Clash Boys
B
oth Dave Ryan and Ryan Wacholz came
from humble beginnings. Born of below
modest means in a little share-cropping
town deep in the heart of Atlanta, the boys
picked cotton and drove truck to make ends
meet for themselves and their families.
••
Naw, I’m jus’ kiddin’. These guys were born and
raised in Rochester and are Minnesota proud.
Both are in their early twenties, have good jobs,
and are students of RCTC.
••
So what’s My Deal? Well, if you heard their music
and their musical styles, you would have thought
that my beginning joke was actually the reality.
I first heard the boys, the Clash Boys, on a CD my
girlfriend played for me a few months ago. “My
friend Dan Ryan gave me this CD. It’s his kid and
another guy,” she explained. So I listened. The intro
seemed fine. The prefacing rhyme was fine, too.
But as the unique tone created an unusual voice,
I became beyond impressed. “They sound pretty
professional,” I said. After a few more beats, I had
to stop the song and start it over again. I listened
even more intently. The intro music was great and
the prefacing rhyme was even better. As the unusual
voice commenced lyrics to verses and verses to an
entire song – I was blown away. “These guy’s are
really good,” I said. After a few beats of the next
song, I was hooked. My girlfriend and I listened to
the whole CD.
A few weeks later, my girlfriend got a new CD of
the Clash Boys. It was the same songs but now
produced by a friend of theirs, DJ (Dallas Jay).
Again, my girl and I listened to the whole thing.
When I heard Here’s Looking At You Girl again, even
though I was only listening to it a full second time,
it was as though I’ve been listening to it forever.
“This song’s my favorite,” I exclaimed talking like a
cooing fan-girl just covering my real fanaticism of
the song and the disc. The rest of the day, even after
listening to a lot of other music, I heard Dave Ryan
singing “So here’s looking at you girl, and your little
pretty smile and your baby-blue eyes” over and over
in my head.
I’ve listened to a lot of local “professional” singers
and acoustic guitarists, both on stage or on disc,
and I gotta say, there hasn’t been a song of theirs
that has stuck in my head the way this song did!
••
Photography by Jeffrey Johnson
So for that, the Clash Boys are something special!
And for that, you need to learn more about ’em!
Dave Ryan and Ryan Wacholz met up at college.
Knowing each other first through an old mutual
friend, the boys became reacquainted during
a college night class. Neither knew about the
other’s musical talent, but when R-dubs heard
Dave’s Here’s looking At You Girl, their usual
exchanges changed!
“I heard him singing...,” said Dubs, “and there
wasn’t any beat to it or anything – just acoustic.
I was ‘Well, let me try to put a beat under that
once’ and it sounded pretty cool. I thought I
could rap to it too. I didn’t really think I could
rap with a guitar but that’s even awesome.”
That is awesome! The collaboration of the two
artists and the clashing of the two musical styles
make the song, the music, and the Clash Boys.
Dave Ryan is the song writer, singer, and acoustic
guitarist. He has been playing piano for the past
17 years and now, with his newfound love of the
guitar, has been writing his own music as well.
“I got my guitar last Christmas,” said Dave. “I
think I’m pretty musically talented. I’m really
good at the piano and I picked up on the guitar
right away. My cousin is in a punk band and he
taught me a bunch of notes. I figured out other
notes and how to do other tabs by myself. I just
starting playing my own stuff because I didn’t
want to learn other people’s stuff.”
••
Ah – originality! And originality that’s actually
good. The same thing goes for his counterpart.
Ryan Wacholz, a.k.a. R-dubs, a.k.a DJ King, is the
rap writer, the rapper and the beat maker. Since
every rapper needs an alias, Ryan set aside his given
name and created R-dubs. As his second persona, he
is DJ King. In his song Split Personality, R-dubs
and DJ King converge as one to tell about it.
“Ryan means ‘Little King’ and I got the name DJ
King in high school. I would create “mix tapes” on
cd and give them out at school with my name on
’em.” R-dubs/DJ King started making beats when he
was 16 and got into rapping there-after. “I was writing my own music with beats, so I thought, ‘Hmm,
I should try to rap once.’ I taught myself to do it.

MY DEAL
No one really influenced me much or said ‘Hey,
you should rap,’ I just wanted to do it.”
Again – originality that’s also good!
During my interview with the boys, they gave
me two new discs – one of R-dubs and one of
the Clash Boys. I couldn’t wait to listen to them.
••
••
••
R-dubs mentioned that he had 16 songs on his
full album. I knew that if all of them were even
close to the first raps of his I’ve already heard,
I’d be listening to his disc for weeks. Dub’s CD
The Journey, is his path through music thus far.
With his first song I’m On Top Of It, where he
tells the listener, as well as R-dubs himself, what
he needs to do in order to be on top in the rap
game, to Will Not Stop Me, where he makes sure
the listener knows that his music won’t stop and
the journey is never-ending. The Journey gives
the listener rough beats, smooth rhymes and an
in depth ‘get to know me’ R-dubs story. “It’s like
my rise to the top,” said Dubs. “Starting out in a
small town and moving way up!”
The Clash Boys’ disc, named Product of Collision,
contained only a few new demo-type songs out
of eight or nine that they have been working on.
I knew the songs would be great. I wanted to
listen to it right away to see just how their new
stuff compared to Here’s Looking At You Girl.
“These are our rough drafts where we put
everything together before we get it produced
or get into the studio,” explained Dave.
••
“We just finished Summer Holiday,” stated
R-dubs. And it is on my disc! “Its all about not
having anything to do on a certain day in the
summer and just having fun.” “Living in the
moment pretty much!” said Dave. “It’s ready to
be etched,” concluded R-dubs.
••
That is the next step for the boys – getting all
of their songs professionally produced within
a studio. Their friend DJ has just moved back
from Arizona and with his studio expertise,
professional equipment, programs, and plans to
create a state-of-the-art studio here in Rochester,
the boys could have their producer. “Possibly,”
said Dubs. “We also have another option,” added
Dave. “My cousin is the drummer for the punk
band Four Word Cause. Their lead singer has ties

with a major record company and Steve Capp,
a Des Moines, Iowa producer. He’s got a big
platinum record hangin’ on his wall, he’s always
busy, and he’s worked with artists such as
Eminem. We can just go down there, tell him
we know the drummer of Four Word Cause and
he’ll listen to our music. We’ll tell him what we
want it to sound like and he’ll tell us what he can
do to best produce it.”
I talked to the boys about their production and
promotion agendas and then I had to finish
out our interaction with the stereotypical last
question: What’s next? Within a split second and
simultaneously, R-dubs blurted “Play shows!”
as Dave Ryan exclaimed “Perform!”
As I earlier stated, both of the boys have jobs
and have a lot going on. Even though they are
extremely busy, they’re not too busy to perform.
On October 20th, R-dubs appeared in Minneapolis as both a solo rapper and accompanied
with Dave as the Clash Boys. It was a leg of the
Lokdown Records Tour Biting @ The Bit. On
October 26, R-dubs and Li’l Crazed rocked the
college house and the RCTC Halloween Party.
You don’t believe my hype? Look for the boys
performing: November 7th R-dubs will get on
the mic in a Lokdown show at Big V’s in St. Paul;
November 14th the Clash Boys will be performing at Bali Satay, a bar in Ames, Iowa; November
23rd R-dubs will again perform during another
Lokdown show at the Red Sea; and last but not
least, the Clash Boys will perform in a flood
benefit at the Mayo Civic on December 1st.
Dave has assured me that they will be performing around Rochester and the area next summer.
I’m assuring you, Here’s Looking At You Girl
is sure to be a hit and if you miss out on seeing
the boys you will be finding yourself saying,
“I could have seen those guys, but...”

R-dubs In The Hiz-ouse!
After driving to the Cities with R-dub’s beats
and rhymes, I entered the Red Sea parting it
with my hip-hop swagger like DJ Moses. The
Red Sea is a bar on Cedar Avenue. The people
down the street seemed a bit hard, but with
self-heightened awareness, everyone was cool.
Fashizzle! (for sure, for real) Not only did I
notice many elderly African-American gentlemen playing Billiardi Hartey (a billiards-type
ball and table game) in the back, but in the
next room were several young Caucasian men,
sporting their hip-hop gear and musical heart
awaiting to rap on stage. To me, both races,
generations, and genres set the persona of the
whole place.
The Red Sea was one of the ongoing stops on
the Lokdown Records Biting @ The Bit Tour
hitting locations throughout Minnesota and
Iowa. Lokdown is a small Minneapolis-based
label created by rapper, hypeman, promoter
and businessman Kasper ‘the Lokdown Kid.’
Dubs met up with the hip-hop entrepreneur
at a rap competition close to a year ago. After
some early promotional hardships, R-dubs
received Kasper’s questioning statement,
“Why don’t you just be part of us?” From that
point, Dubs became affiliated with Kasper,
Lokdown and Minneapolis shows.
On Friday, October 19th, I called Dave Ryan
about the adjacent article. He informed me
that R-dubs, as well as the Clash Boys, would
be on the Lokdown Records Biting @ The Bit
Tour line up on October 20th. I knew that I
needed to go – not only because I was writing
about ‘em, but I had to give ‘em some local
support. Plus, I’ve been into hip-hop since ’82
and I definitely needed a new rap experience!
The show’s first rapper was way intense and
very energetic. This guy rapped so fast and so
virtually flawless that I was reminded of
Twista, the fastest nationally-known rapper.
However, like being able to sleep to Metallica,
the fast beats ‘n’ rhymes began to drone on
and I got a bit tired. Everyone in the show was
really good, but I couldn’t help to anticipate
watching and listening to R-dubs.
Finally – at 10 o’clock – Dubs hit the mic.
He began with I’m On Top Of It, the rap that
tells the listener, as well as R-dubs himself,
what he needs to do in order to be on top
in the rap game. Dubs, then, went into Get
Down, Get Up, I’m That Guy, and We On It
deemed the Lokdown anthem featuring
Kasper. I’ve heard them all before, but with
R-dubs on the stage with his in-your-face
performance, the raps were all new again.
Head boppin’ ‘n’ body rockin’ while I did what
I do, I caught a glimpse of Dave Ryan through
the smoke and my view finder, picking up his
guitar. I knew what was coming.
R-dubs finished as the crowd buzzed. A dude
set up a stool and two mics as Kasper played
hypeman and emcee, introducing the boys. I
got excited all over again feeling both proud
and anxious like a real local fan.
The beginning acoustic strums of Here’s Looking at You Girl by the Clash Boys, pulled the
audience to the stage. Dave’s lyrics and music,
with R-dubs beats ‘n’ rhymes, were definitely the
perfect explosion after a long hip-hop car chase.

7 Day Weekend to Rock, Again!
Since their debut in 1993, the goal of 7 Day
Weekend has been to provide quality rock
music with a polished sound and to have fun
while doing it! Now the band’s entertainment
driven performances are better than ever and
have helped propel 7 Day Weekend to a
“favorite band” status throughout southern
Minnesota and beyond.
Over fifteen years ago, four young, ambitious
men decided they would form a band. They
wanted to play songs that other bands weren’t
playing, yet still play popular danceable songs.
They have played full-time throughout the
United States, booked by the Mark Allen
Agency of the Twin Cities. Today, nearly a
decade and a half later, though the line up has
changed over the years, the current five band
members of 7 Day Weekend are still rocking
out and entertaining crowds with infectious
live shows.
7 Day Weekend band members include
Jay Wells on vocals and guitar, Mark Watson
on guitar and vocals, Billy Sheldon on bass,
Kevin Anderson on keyboards, guitar, and
vocals, and Erich Winter on drums.

Lamont Cranston to Play
This legendary Minneapolis based blues
band has been at it since 1969. After 14
releases, the band is still going strong and
turning out new material all the time. Besides leading the band, Pat “Lamont” Hays
also has solo ventures to his credit, touring
with Bonnie Raitt as a member of her band
and blowing harmonica duets with Charlie
Musselwhite in Minneapolis and Hollywood
at Dan Aykroyd’s House of Blues Grand
Opening Bash. Pat was Dan’s special guest
at the opening. The band also made history
as the first band to play the grand opening of
the Chicago House of Blues.
Their hit “Excusez Moi Mon Cherie” was
recorded by The Blues Brothers on the flipside of their 1979 hit “Soul Man.”
It was also used on the soundtrack of the
Al Franken-Tom Davis movie “One More
Saturday Night”, along with their biggest hit
“Upper Mississippi Shakedown.”
They have shared the stage with Muddy Waters,
Albert King, and where ever the band goes
their infectious style attracts some of the best
jammers in the business.
Keb Mo, Jonny Lang, Jeff Healey, Sugar Blue,
and even Wilson Pickett jumped up on stage in
Duluth a couple of years ago and kicked into
his big hit “Mustang Sally.” One of the biggest
thrills was opening for the Rolling Stones on a
leg of tour in 1981.
The band, whose current lineup is: Pat Hayes –
Harp, Guitar, vocals;Ted Larsen – Guitar; Jesse
Petrowski– Bass, Upright Bass; Greg Slmck
– Drums; Brian Risling – Saxophone, has won
just about every award possible through the
years at the Minnesota Music Awards.
In 1999, the band was honored during their
30th anniversary, with a City of St. Paul and
State of Minnesota ‘Lamont Cranston Day.’
Also a lifetime achievement award and a City
of Duluth “Ambassadors of the Blues Award.”
and were inducted into the Minnesota Music
Hall of Fame.
