Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Contest 2015 Winning Entries © Random House Pueblo City-County Library District Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Contest The Pueblo City-County Library District is pleased to announce the winners and honorable mentions of the 2015 Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Contest. Students, from kindergarten to high school, were invited to draw their own Dr. Seuss character and write a brief description of their character. The students, whose characters were selected, were invited to an awards ceremony at the library. Winners received a $10 gift certificate, and honorable mention recipients received a $5 gift certificate to Books Again Bookstore, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. All students who participated received a certificate of acheivement. The judges were Friends of the Library board members Monica Ayala, Beth Bryant, Doris Kester, Doreen Martinez and Becky Suddath and PCCLD staff members Amber Pepin, Sara Schwartz, Michelle Vigil and Courtney Woodka. There were a total of 1754 entries. The library wishes to thank everyone who entered the contest and the teachers and parents who encouraged them to participate. We look forward to your entries again next year! First of all, I love flowers. When I see a flower it grows on my back. Next, when I eat it, it disappears. When it disappears I turn pink for the rest of the day. If I see the same flower again I’m still pink. As you can see, I’m a cool character. Aubrie Ruyle 2nd Place - 2nd Grade Heroes K-8 Academy– Mrs. Myli Elyfywol Elyfywol has two noses, three yellow teeth, 93 pink dots, gray wings, ten legs, and two swirly eyes. With her eyes she makes people dizzy and with her wings she can fly and catch people and eat them. Domonique Martinez 3rd Place - 2nd Grade Goodnight School – Ms. Tondera Jena Jena is a nice chicken. She has yellow fur. Jena is funny and is 9 days old. Soon Jena will be 10 days old. Jena’s wings have magic. She is a super hero and is kind. She is a good friend. Ariel Widup 1st Place - 3rd Grade Carlile Elementary School – Mrs. Pettis Nerpal Hi, I’m Nerpal! My favorite color is purple! I’m half octopus and half deer. I live in a dream land where all your dreams come true. But everything is different here! I live in the forest and ocean. My mom is a deer! My dad is an octopus! The tree on my left is the green tree. We call it that because it holds your dreams in it. The best thing about Boombox is he is very athletic. She is special because she can fly, climb, swim, catch fish, protect herself and eat real human food. Zeke Trujillo 1st Place - 4th Grade Avondale Elementary School – Ms. Cruz Mr. Smile Face Mr. Smile Face has a very happy life. He does a lot of activites. He never dies so he is 1,000 years old. Smiles is his nickname. Smiles lives on a planet called Smile. It’s outside that Milky Way but he got sent to earth because his world was getting sucked into a blackhole. So he now lives on earth. Smiles was adopted by two farmers. One was a boy and the other was a girl. He is turning 1,000 now. His parents are gone so he is now a businessman. Mr. Smile Face works for happy and mad people. Smiles never gets mad. He always smiles even when in trouble. His smell is blueberry cotton candy. He sees things yellow and white. Mr. Smile Face has a happy life. My creature is a happy man. He still lives to this day and still is a businessman. I hope you like him more than I do. Sinsyre Salinas 3rd Place - 4th Grade Heritage Elementary School – Ms. Combs Fuzzbits He flies with floppy ears. He loves to help children. He’s hugable and cute. He’s the prince of oo-lah-lah land. Trystan James Waggoner 2nd Place - 5th Grade Goodnight School – Mrs. Durning The Questionaire The Questionaire is somewhat of a super hero. What he does is ask questions more than rescuing. Maybe your frisbee is stuck on the roof. He would come up and ask, “ How, oh how, did the frisbee get stuck up there?” After you answer, he would say “Okay,” then walk away in a weird stride. He wears purple boxers and a yellow shirt. Jagger Chambers 3rd Place - 5th Grade Sunset Park Elementary School – Mrs. Terry Triple Hump Truffs Triple Hump Truffs like to have plump kump birds on their triple humps. Anna Saathoff 1st Place - 6th grade Connect Charter School – Ms. Bryan Siggy Siggy is a cuddly caveman. He is very fuzzy and nice. He loves to play in the snow. Siggy loves to swim with friends. He is only a couple feet tall and loves to have fun. Brianna Meyers 2nd Place - 6th grade Connect Charter School – Mrs. Gonzales Niugels This is Niugels the sloguin! This adorable animal is a sloth mixed with a penguin. It has super soft and glossy fur that you can’t resist touching. He is the sweetest creature you will ever lay your eyes on. With the looks of a penguin he can swing from tree to tree like a sloth. Nahiara Melendez 3rd Place - 6th grade Sky View Middle School – Mr. McKinsey Jellywing Everytime Jellywing got sad because she missed her family or she was made fun of or she would stick her big white wings out and fly up to the blue sky and land on a fluffy, comfy, soft cloud and talk about Dr. Seuss. Whenenver she felt better she would fly back down to the beautiful blue water, happy forever with Dr. Seuss in her heart. Joli Dou 1st Place - 7th grade Connect Charter School – Mrs. Gonzales Olivia Octoqueen This is Olivia Octoqueen. She’s the ruler of the sea. This year, she’s 23. Olivia Octoqueen loves bubbles. She’ll help anyone who’s in trouble, wheather they’re big or small, short or tall. Octoqueen loves ballet. As she always says, “You can dance on any day!” Justin Bruccoliere 2nd Place - 7th grade Swallows Charter Academy – Ms. Simonich Tortuga Tortuga has a life voyage. He’s a turtle with a village on his shell. He is very nice and likes to be a leader. He always wants to help. He doesn’t know what his voyage is but his village buddies and he keep going. Destinee Choe-Dray 3rd Place - 7th grade Bessemer Academy – Mrs. Kitchen Double Trouble Uh oh! here they come! Double Trouble! Trouble Lou and Trouble Q may seem nice at first, but their names say it all. They will first greet you with a smile and handshake but after that they pull mean pranks and mess up everybody’s plans for the weekend. However, after each day of dealing with the double trouble twins they get in trouble with their parents. But do you think they learn their lesson? No! So go ahead and try to control them but it is nearly impossible. Paul Rose 1st Place - 8th grade Swallows Charter Academy – Ms. Simonich Lucy Lucy is a happy and cheerful creature. She eats so much cotton candy that she turns pink. With all of the sugar she eats, she is hyper and very active. Austin Belore 2nd Place - 8th grade Swallows Charter Academy – Ms. Simonich Bim-Boom-Bad-Bazzaler-er-er He is Bim-Boom-Bad-Bazzaler-er-er. He owns a park where children have fun and play. Every day all day they play. He loves their laughter and joy. He eats three cows and builds great great cows. Bryania Wright 3rd Place - 8th grade Bessemer Academy – Mrs. Kitchen Larry His name is Larry and he loves to read. He could read more than one book at a time. He always had books in his hands. He had glasses so you can read better. Larry is all green, even his hair and mustache are. He has read all of his books more than 10 times. He had a great memory and could remember every word that he has ever read. He reads all day long and never stops. He does everything while he is reading. Valerie Harris 1st Place - High School Central High School – Mrs. Drobnick Dotty Body Green Dotty Green is nice and friendly. Dotty loves to be outside and take good care of the tree in the yard. Dotty has a positive personality and is a great friend. Dotty Body Green likes to be with friends such as The Cat in the Hat and The Lorax. Dotty’s finds much inspiration in reading books and encourages you to read too! Grace Lancelot 2nd Place - High School Swallows Charter Academy – Mr. Morenz Snuffalump My name’s Snuffalump or “Snuff” just for short. I’m small but I’m mighty and my body contorts! I live in the forest among the birds and the trees, but when I come out from hiding I help those in need. My job is to help those less fortunate than I, so when there’s an issue I’ll most likely be nigh! ReGina Kahrs 3rd Place - High School Rye High School – Mrs. Robles Hope My name is Hope and I know how to cope. I stay happy and I sure know how to clappy. I definitely have manners and I use planners. Life is full of rainbows and butterflies. Unlock your innerself and set your own expectations. Never be shallow, rude or hateful. Most important, be who you want to be. The sky, rainbows and butterflies will show you the way. Now go outside and play! In the green part you can go back in time and the orange part you can go to heaven but you can never get back. The sky part you can fly to the sky. He spreads beautiful colors from his tail as he flies. It’s nice and kind. First of all, I like to eat trees. My favorite kinds are pink and yellow trees. They taste sweet. Next, I have crazy hair. As you can see, I am one colorful character. Aliyah Lohnes Honorable Mention - 2nd Grade Heroes K-8 Academy– Mrs. Schweitzer Color Wiggle World She wiggles and jiggles and miggles. She is pointy, crazy and colorful. Her body is in the sky. She can see from 100 miles. She can breathe under water. She lives in Color Wiggle World. She gets along with dragon and wolf. She loves to eat bugs, slugs, mugs and lugs. He is very colorful. He likes to mess up a lot of rooms. He is very messy. Aden Gonzales Honorable Mention - 3rd Grade Heroes K-8 Academy– Mrs. Chambers Winkapillar My Dr. Seuss character is Winkapillar. Winkapillar loves ABC’s. He always goes up to people and sings ABC’s. Winkapillar is always happy. He is always happy because he always smiles all the time. Winkapillar loves to wink. He loves to wink because he is happy. Winnie Huber Honorable Mention - 3rd Grade St. Therese Catholic School – Mrs. La Conte The Long Haired Loosel-Woosel This creature cleans things with her hair. Her baby sits in her pouch. She can fly because she has jet skis on her feet. It is part bunny, part kangaroo and part rainbow. She helps the children and cat clean up, when Thing 1 and 2 make a mess. Lyliah Jaber Honorable Mention - 3rd Grade Beulah Heights Elementary School – Mr. Robertson Mr. Clickity Clockity When I sing I go clickity clockity. I eat time and drink music. I think I sing very well if you ask me. I live in Snoock Village. I also love to play piano (that’s why I have so many fingers). I hope you like me. Thank you! Kolby Mors Honorable Mention - 3rd Grade Desert Sage Elementary School – Mr. Trivisonno Tree Sing This is Tree Sing. He likes to sing with his bells. He is colorful. Simonia Alires Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Goodnight School – Mrs. Thielemier Dandicat Dandicat runs fast and when it’s windy she loses her seeds but they grow back in a flash. Lydia Almond Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Desert Sage Elementary School – Mr. Maez Willy Willanceler Willy Willanceler is cupid’s girlfriend and neighbor. She is obsessed with hearts and her favorite food is angel cake. Her favorite holiday is Valentine’s Day. She also likes to wear hearts, eat hearts and she lives just below heart heaven. Alissa Chavez Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Goodnight School – Ms. Selle Lumina I wiggle, I squiggle. I’m all over the place and I always have a smile on my face. I’m part of the lumins that’s no disgrace. I’m from Mars, that’s my place. Breckyn Gray Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Trinity Luthern School – Ms. Miller The Food Snatcher My character is the Food Snatcher. It is a two sided octopus with 16 tentacles. One side is a boy and one side is a girl. The boy is green with blue polkadots and he has a red hat. The girl has a purple body with aqua polkadots and a pink bow. They are called the Food Snatcher because they steal food at night. They crawl out of the sea to steal food. So at night don’t leave your chocolate chip cookies on the counter. Trecia Smith Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Desert Sage Elementary School – Mrs. Hamler Sky This is Sky with her pet fly. They are both shy and live in the sky. They love to fly and they won’t tell a single lie. Oh my! Jimmy Brubaker Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Desert Sage Elementary School – Ms. Luna Billy Bob Billy Bob lives on a planet called Hob. He has four arms and hands, 28 fingers, three eyes and two noses. Shelby McCrory Honorable Mention - 5th Grade North Mesa Elementary School – Mrs. Ware Loopa Mazoo A Loopa Mazoo is cool to you each and every day. They will always love you in each and every way. If you are sad the rain starts to pour, with a Loopa Mazoo you won’t feel sad anymore. Clearly, the Loopa Mazoo is the creature for you! Vincent Pettie Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Heritage Elementary School – Mrs. Richards Eye-Dog-Vator-Help Hand Eye-Dog-Vator-Help Hand is the name. It’s burden is that it doesn’t see or talk in the right direction. With five eyes, three mouths, five hands and an automatic leash. Plus it can swim fluently. Golden Taylor Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Heritage Elementary School – Mrs. Richards Rainbowette Rainbowette is a model. She can fly, walk and waddle. At six she ate Skittles that she got from Y.A. Title. The Skittles got stuck in her throat so now she floats like a boat. But her coat she bought from a goat, left and got stuck in a moat! She got beat by the heat and some meat on top of concrete. And that is why she is rainbow. Zoe Wick Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Pueblo Christian Academy – Ms. LeFlore Flata Flu My character’s name is Flata Flu. She has a very long neck, long thick hair, bushy arms and legs. She is about six inches tall. Her hair is kind of like dreadlocks. She uses her hair to clean. She would do anything you want. It is very hard to find these creatures. Once they find something they like they will clean it then hide in it. If you find them they will listen to you so they will clean your room and your house. They will sometimes rearange things if they get carried away. One day I found Flata Flu. I found her in my room. She was so cute, I gave her my shoe. She said no not the stinky show. So I have her in my cocoon. She loved it and listened to me until she had to go. Flata Flu and I had so much fun together. I was very sad when she left. You might find her in your room. Start looking. Zephy Borrego Honorable Mention - 6th Grade Connect Charter School - Mrs. Smith Doug This is Doug. Doug loves to snowboard and is very friendly. He loves to ride boxes and do any kind of trick that involves freestyle terrain. His favorite trick is a 360 onto a rail. Doug built his own snowboard park in the deepest forests of New Zealand. He is very good with his hands and built his small cabin in the wilderness. Doug is definitely a pro at snowboarding and he knew that snowboarding was his calling because of the small snowboard on his stomach. Doug rides a Forum snowboard that is specially designed for the terrain that Doug loves to ride in. Truly, Doug is a lovable creature that loves to snowboard. Madeline Kunstle Honorable Mention - 6th Grade Connect Charter School - Mrs. Granato The Drama Llama The character is the rare species of Drama Llama. Found in northern Katroo, the Drama Llama’s reflective stomach is the target for hunters, which is a reason they are rare. The Drama Llama is a mix of four animals: a llama, falcon, panda and tiger. She keeps all of the children in Whoville safe at night. If she sees a child having a bad dream she will wake him or her up and comfort him or her so they can go to sleep. Or if a child is in danger she will rush into action and bring that child to safety. Mirl Bat Girl is considered the child hero of Whoville. It has pajamas on to show that it is very lazy and always tired. Monster sleeps on the side of your bed. They may seem mean but they get very nice once you get to know them. He lives in the hills, hidden from people because they misuse his talents. He is very purple and loves to sing, play guitar and dance.
