Mobile Music Workshop
Legends & Stories through Music –
The Legend of the Children of Lir and A Likely Story
Mother & Toddler Group with Colin Kenny
A workshop aimed at parents/guardians and children aged 6
months to 3 years. The workshop introduces the child to the
basics of music in a fun environment where education and
entertainment blend together.
Time: 11am
Venue: Lucan Library
Launch of Ruaille Buaille! 2010
by the Mayor of South Dublin County Council
Presentation of prizes to the winners of CREATE AN IMAGE
competition will also be made. Well done to all 512 entrants!
The evening will also mark the opening of the Children’s
Art Exhibition as well as an array of interactive fun music
experiences for all the family.

Plumber’s Guide to World Music Taster
A music workshop experimenting with everyday materials.
A refreshingly unorthodox approach to music, combining
singing and hands-on instrument playing from unlikely
sources including materials left behind by the plumber!
Suitable for 7 - 12 year olds.
Time: 10.30pm & 12 noon

Human Beatbox Workshop with Size2shoes
Size2shoes have been incorporating Hip Hop Human
Beatbox techniques along with other styles of vocal
percussion into their live shows for some time. This
workshop is focused on teaching basic vocal techniques,
from learning to sound like a real drum kit or scratch
DJ to beating your chest while singing! This is a highly
entertaining and fun workshop suitable for all ages!

Celtic Rathskallions
Canadian based The Celtic Rathskallions are a professional
music and arts troupe. Their shows include songs,
instrument demonstrations, step-dancing, home-made
‘bagpipes’, playing a tune on a glass bottles and much more.

are, whithout a doubt, the best children’s group we have

Two Classic Stories from Irish legend and literature
performed by Nuala Hayes and illuminated by the soundworld of the Irish Harp, with original and traditional
compositions by Anne Marie O’Farrell. Suitable for children
from 8 years of age.

Boomwhacker Workshops
Boomwhackers are assorted coloured plastic tubes,
each colour playing a different note when struck. The
Boomwhacker workshop promotes participation and
fun through the use of popular songs with the workshop
culminating in a full class ensemble performance.

See Hear and Play an Interactive Concert
for Children
A workshop and concert in one this event is aimed at 5-9
year olds. Featuring a range of instruments from strings,
percussion, guitars, pianos and everything in-between
children are introduced to a new and exciting adventure in
music.

African Drumming Workshop with
JabbaJabbaJembe
A one hour workshop introducing students to African
rhythms and African hand drumming suitable for all ages.
Time: 11am & 1pm Venue: Workshop available to visits schools

Invitation to Chopin’s 200th Birthday Party
Join
in celebrating the birthday of one of
the greatest composers of all time. Well known Irish pianist
Anthony Byrne will lead students through Chopin’s most
famous piano pieces as well as some interesting facts on
the life and times of Chopin. Visit Lucan Library Chopin
Exhibition to compile your very own Chopin fact sheet.

Mixin’ and Scratchin’ Workshop
Designed for students aged 11 – 13 years, this workshop will
introduce participants to the world of DJ’ing and turntables
in a fun and interactive workshop. Numbers limited.

A fast paced interactive and fun workshop introducing
a variety of musical activities and games designed to
develop the basics of musical knowledge. Ages 3 - 8yrs,
parent must accompany child(ren).

African Music and Dance Workshop
and Demonstration
A workshop and demonstration of African Music, Song
and Dance suitable for all the family. Working alonside
JabbaJabbaJembe learn the art of African rhythm and
dance. Come along and do a demonstration of your world
music piece at 2.30 at the Carnival.

on Lucan Village Green
Join us for the Finale of
Lucan Children’s
Music Festival 2010 where you will be entertained by a
host of musicians and performers in the relaxing venue
of Lucan Village Green. Bring your own picnics, rugs or
low-backed seating, sit back and enjoy the afternoon.

Have a music face painted by a host of facepainters.
Carnival Crafts
Make your own music makers, shakers and carnival
decorations in this outdoor arts activity.
Make a Music Mask
Paint your own music symbols and music characters on
your festival mask
Make your very own Percussion Instrument
A colorful, ornamental percussion instrument to take home
Take part in a Boomwhacker Demonstration
Learn to play a tune in a group using the colourful
Boomwhacker
Holy Rosary Drumming and Singing Group
An initiative of South Dublin County Council Music
Education Partnership 40 student from Holy Rosary
Primary School, Firhouse, will perform their very own
African rhythms and vocal sounds.
Lucan Concert Band
are delighted to have Lucan’s very own,
25 member, concert band perform at this years festival.
JabbaJabbaJembe
An energetic display of African Music and Dance. They
will also be joined by some of the participants of the
morning workshop demonstrating their very own piece of
World music.
The Dublin Gurus
A Dublin-based Indian band playing music from the Indian
classical and folk traditions, the Dublin Gurus combine hiphop rhythms and beats with the lilting melodies of India.
LÍADAN – Festival Highlight
One of Irelands top Traditional bands Líadan create a
fresh and exciting sound that explores both traditional
Irish music and song as well as experimenting with new
material.. Síle Denvir, harpist; Deirdre Chawke, piano
accordion; Elaine Cormican, whistles. Valerie Casey and
Claire Dolan, fiddles; Catherine Clohessy, flute.
Join them in bringing the
Lucan
Children’s Music Festival 2010 to a close.
