The eight commonest are:Soil Dryness - no life can survive without water. Over-Watering -The commonest fatal factor, especially in Winter time. Cold Nights - If the plant is in a heated room during the day. Strong Sunshine - Pot and soil surface should he shaded in such a situation. Hot Dry Air. - House plants need less warm air and more moist air than } ou think. Draughts - When the temperature outside the room is lower than within, then the cross-current of cool air is one of the main causes of plant failure. Gas - Gas and a number of other fumes can be toxic No Light Most plants will eventually die if kept continually in deep shade. November 13th, 1977 59c RSV THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY INO RDINARYTIM E ENTRANCE ANTIPHON (Jer29:11.12.14 The Lord says: my plans for you are peace and not disaster; when you call to me, I will listen to you, and I will bring you back to the place from which I exiled you. P r i e s t In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. The grace and peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. PENITENTIAL RITE The priest addresses the people in these or similar words. As we prepare to celebrate the mystery of Christ's love, let us acknowledge our failures and ask the Lord for pardon and strength. A pause for silent reflection follows. Lord Jesus, you came to gather the nations into the peace of God's kingdom: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. You come in word and sacrament to strengthen us in holiness: Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. You will come in glory with salvation for your people: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. OPENING PRAYER Let us pray (that God will help us to be faithful) Father of all that Is good, keep us faithful in serving you, for to serve you is our lasting joy. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING (3:19-20) A reading from the prophet Malachi Behold, the day comes, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Ps 97:5-9. R. v. 9) R.The Lord comes to rule the peoples with fairness. I.Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp with the sound of music. With trumpets and the sound, of the horn acclaim the King, the Lord. (R.) 2. Let the sea and all within it, thunder; the world, and all its peoples. Let the rivers clap their hands and the hills ring out their joy at the presence of the Lord. (R.) 3. For the Lord comes, comes to rule the earth. He will rule the world with justice and the peoples with fairness. (R.) SECOND READING 13:7-12) A reading from the second letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians You yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you, we did not eat any one's bread w ithout paying, but with toil and labour we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you. It was not because we have not that right, but to give you in our conduct an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work in quietness and to earn their own living. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. ACCLAMATION (Rev 2:10) Alleluia, alleluia! Even if you have to die, says the Lord, keep faithful, and Iwill give yoq_ the crown of life. Alleluia! GOSPEL (21:5-19). The Lord be with you. And also with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you Lord. As some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with noble stones and offerings, Jesus said. As for these things which you see, the days will come when there shall not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.' And they asked him, Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign when this is about tc take place?' And he said, Take heed that you are no* :ed astray; for many will come in my name. ? saying, "} am he!" an d.' The time is at hand1' Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified: to r th»s must first take place, but the end will not be at once.' Then he said ro them.. 'Nation will :ise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes, ar d in various piaces tamings and pestilences; and there will be term..1s and great signs heaven. But before ai- this i. will lav their hands on'you and persecute you deihv.ing you up to the synagogues and prisons, '-rid you will be biought before kings end governors for my name's sake. This will be a . time for you to bear testimony. Settle it therefore in your minds, not to medilate beforehand how to answer; for I wiT give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of you? adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You wir be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put tc death; you will be hated by all for my nanrlfe sake. But not a hair of your head will perisri By your endurance you will gain your lives ' This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ Let us proclaim the mystery of faith r Lord by your cross and resurrection you have set us free. You are the Saviour of the world. t 10 .
