Page 2 rapidwheelmen.com Dec10/Jan11 president’s spin Could it be that another year of Rapid Wheelmen tours and rides have come and gone so soon? It’s true – as the weather cools, and many of us put our bikes away for the year, this is a good time to look back and reflect on at all the great rides, and all the fun we’ve had in 2010 – and look forward to new opportunities, challenges, and all the great riding, racing, and touring that’s in store for us next year in 2011! I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone that has been so supportive during the past year by volunteering and helping to keep our major rides and events going strong during the last year. Without your help, we couldn’t have had the successful year that we did. I’d also like to take a moment to invite those of you that haven’t yet played a role in supporting your club, but have been looking for the right opportunity, to consider getting involved on the board this coming year. Serving on the board is a fun way to meet people and became involved with the club. I strongly urge any of you that haven’t been on the board to take plunge and come on in and join us. You’ll find its fun, and rewarding. Your imagination and energy are welcomed. Take a look at the positions that are open, below, and choose the one where you can make difference! We went to Highrollway, a small road site Park on M82. If you have never been there, you owe it to yourself to make it up there to see. The colors were about as nice as they could get for the time of the year. After spending sometime at the park we rode off to Hit the Road Joe. All of us had a great Lunch, you have to try their french toast, and it is out of this world. On the way home we lost a few riders, but all of them made it home alright. On this ride we had, Jim S., Randy H., Dave D., Michael W., Mike S., Alison G., Rick P., Linda M., Carolyn B., joined us just when we left the parking lot, Cal H. met us at the restaurant, Scott and Carolyn C. met us on the road. The RC, Jochen rapidwheelmen.com Dec10/Jan11 2010 2011 www.rapidwheelmen.com [email protected] om judydy@ comcast.net judydy@ comcast.net judydy@ comcast.net jamesdallan@sb cglobal.net bikebudy@ aol.com mwb@ mwburden.com Check website for up to date ride and event calendar race’n race’n KISSCROSS: Manhattan Park CX Race Great team showing today with a nice turnout of about 10 racers: Jeff F Chris V Josh Big Dave Mr. Kim Lee Karl Dan John K Jerry Lee Russ support your race team sponsors Amy got a pic of almost all of us all before the B race. contact: Dennis Hamel [email protected] Many thanks to our cheering section: Bill T, Tom,Amy, Carrie, Steph, Alison...anyone else? Thank you again for all the encouragement. A couple of podiums with Chris V in the C’s and Karl in the B masters each taking 2nd. Chris also did the B’s and he, Josh, and Big Dave had mechanicals that cost them a few spots or caused a DNF. Jerry hit one of the wood posts that also caused him a DNF...it’ll be a nice bruise but I think he’ll be ok. Tough course due to all the climbing involved. The flat sections were much smoother then two weeks ago but the course needed barriers. 3 races in a row w/o them and no need to dismount today if you could ride the sand. grand cycling classic USA Cycling has announced Grand Rapids, Michigan, as the host site for the 2011/2012 USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championships. Set for July 30 of 2011, the professional men’s national championship race will operate in tandem with the Grand Cycling Classic. Everyone ride the sand today? Shift your weight back, stay light on your front wheel, I put my hands on the hoods or on top, keep pedaling, and let the front end dance around til you finally get thru it. Good fun all around. Sorry for the guys that had mechanicals or other issues.
