Larchey Zore quartet
A band with a lot of character, driving its ressources on jazz affected by the
erosion of the new times, by the wind of energy coming down on a recent era of bands,
thriving on the amplified scene but also on creative refinement of the 20th century
and the rythmical complexity of the Indian Karnatic Music. Definitely Metal, this
band mixes in a virtuous interpretation, improvisations and written music largely
influenced by famous bands as Meshuggah, Deftones, the Mars Volta and Fantomas.
Charley Rose founded this band in 2012 based on his researches on
Meshuggah’s composition techniques. Later he embraces more of his favourite bands, generally the most powerfuls of the amplified scene, in order to
explore a new musical language combined to jazz improvisation. Usually
Larchey Zore quartet is accompaigned by Johan Ponsin, a great sound engineer who
works together with the band to adapt its particular sound to the live conditions.
From the 30th of January until the 4th of february, the Larchey Zore quartet records
an album in Pau with Johan Ponsin in La Centrifugeuse, a concert room where they
presented their work on the 4th of February. The CD will be released in April 2015.
Charley Rose :
He starts to play music with various bands as a singer and saxophonist. Later he plays jazz with the trumpet player Jacky Berecochea
in the New Orleans band Dixie Five.
After obtaining his diplomas in jazz and classical music in
Mont de Marsan and Pau, he graduates in Musikene, the Higher school of music
of the Basque Country where he studied with Mikel Andueza and wrote a short
thesis about Chris Cheek (Chris Cheek: el lirismo en el jazz moderno). In 2013
he graduates as a Jazz Master student in the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam.
He received master classes from great musicians of the international scene such as Jorge Rossy, Loren Stilman, Mark Turner, Ben Street, Ben
Monder, Peter Bernstein, Dick Oatts, Michael Kanan, Doug Weiss, Bill McHenry...

He had the chance to form
part of a quartet with
the
guitarist
Guillermo
Cellano
and
played
with
Harmen
Fraanje,
Reinier
Baas,
Martijn
Vink
and
Clemens
van
der
Feyn.
He Founds the duo with the guitarist Matis Cudars: Cudars/Rose and forms part
of the Matis Cudars’ quartet.He teaches in Ventspils Groove jazz seminary in
Latvia in august 2013. Since April of 2012: he is a co-founder of the band
Gabacho Maroconnection mixing gnawa music and jazz. The result is a brand new
repertoire of world music after two residences in El Jadida (Morocco), an album
and a tour in Spain and France on July 2013 in different festivals: Jazz al dia in
San Sebastian, Valladolid, Escaray, Cerezales del Condado... In 2014 they play
more than 40 concerts in festivals and theaters through Italy Spain and France.
During his master, he redacts and presents a thesis about Meshuggah, a
Sweddish metal band, about how to use their composition material in order to apply it to a jazz amplified quartet. From this work was born the
Larchey Zore Quartet, mixing Metal arrangements and his own compositions.
Matiss Cudars :
Matiss Cudars, born in 1991, is a Latvian jazz guitar player and composer. He’s
been
acknowledged
as
one
of
the
most
prominent
up-raising
young
music
talents
from
the
Baltic
States. His unique, highly personal sound, together with the artistically integral, energetically saturated and yet lyrical
compositions gives an esthetic
enjoyment to a music knower, as
well as to a regular listener.
At the age of 18 he moved to
The Netherlands to study
at the prestigious Amsterdam Conservatory with Jesse
Van Ruler and Maarten van der
Grinten. Since then Matiss has
been performing throughout
Europe with some of the finest musicians of the scene.
Over the past years Matiss has
received various awards. On
2010 Matiss Cudars Trio won the 1st prize at the dutch young talent competition
“Prinses Christina Jazz Concours” which gave him the opportunity to study with Brad
Mehldau and attend the prestigious Banff Centre Workshop in Jazz in Canada, where he studied with Dave Douglas, Clarence Penn, Donny McCaslin, Matt Brewer a.o. On 2012, with his project «North By Northeast», Matiss won the 1st prize at the Keep An Eye international Jazz award that incorporated bands
from New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Amsterdam. On 2013 Matiss Cudars
Quartet won the 1st prize at the world wide renowned Burghausen Jazz Award.
On March 2012 Matiss went to studio «Fattoria Musica» in Germany to record his
debut album with his quartet. The CD is available for sale on iTunes, Spotify,

On 2013 Matiss lived in Berlin, Germany, doing an Erasmus exchange programme at
the Jazz Institute Berlin, studying with Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Hollenbeck, a.o.
Currently Matiss ir residing in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and plays with the
brilliant Slovenian piano player Kaja Draksler.
Andris Buikis :
Andris Buikis was Born in Latvia, Çrgïi city in 1982. Before joining rock Highschool
nr. 100 in Riga in 1999, Andris played with Madona’s heavy rock bands as pianist, guitar player, bass player and vocalist. Andris starts Highschool as an electric guitar
player but switches to drums in 2000. After finishing Highschool in 2002, Andris was
already one of the most demanded drummers in Latvia and played with such artists
as «KEKSI», Arnis Mednis, Jânis Stîbelis, Dons, Intars Busulis, Aija Vîtoliòa, Laimis
Râcenâjs, Laima Vaikule, Marija Naumova, Uldis Marhileviès, Raimonds Pauls and
many other artists of
Latvia. He wins the Sony Jazz
Stage Grand Prix award as
a jazz drummer in 2008. In
2009 he went to Amsterdam’
Conservatory
and
graduated in 2013 as a Jazz
drummer. He played there with various Dutch
jazz
artists
such
as
Harmen Fraanje, Clemens
van der Feen. In 2013,
Andris
went
back
to
Latvia and taught drums in
the rock school «BJMK» as
well as plays and works
as a studio session drummer. In 2014 Andris signs a contract with the
Latvian
drum
company
«BROCREATION» and is nowadays one of the main artists of
their production. In 2015, he is still playing with international contemporary jazz bands as «The Brag Pack» and «K Trio»
Wilfried Wilde :
He
was
born
in
Mont
de
Marsan in 1987.
He graduates in
Musikene,
the
National Conservatory of Basque
Country (Spain) as a
jazz guitar player,
and shares the stage with many of the
best Spanish jazz
players as Perico Sambeat, Paco Charlin, Iago Fernandez and Xan Campos. In 2011,
he wins the Keep an Eye European Competition as best soloist ; the jury said that
he is «a gifted guitar player, who communicates his ideas on
stage with great eloquence». In 2015, he joins the Larchey Zore
quartet as a bass player. Now he lives in Galicia, where he plays
guitar in the Iago Fernandez Quintet and teaches at the Pontevedra jazz seminary and participates to many Spanish festivals..
