Murphy will be assisted by a staff of 23 camp counselors, two art instructors, one gym instructor and counselors-intraining, thereby assuring a staff-to-camper ratio of 1:8, maximum. (Criminal record and child abuse background checks are conducted on all staff 18 years and older.) The Directors report directly to the Executive Director of the Comm. All staff attend a rigorous pre-camp training session and head staff are certified in First Aid and Child CPR. Alexandra is a 2012 graduate of East Stroudsburg University with a degree in Sports and Recreation Management and is the Program Director of CommKids After School. E.J. is a veteran of Comm Camp and is on the faculty of the Howard Gardner School. WAVERLY COMMUNITY HOUSE o Week 1 June 27 - July 1 Is your child looking for fun this summer? Would you like your child to make new friends? H ave fun and make friends at Comm Camp. Together with support from our friends at the Overlook Estate Foundation, the Waverly Community House will host six weeks of recreation, friendship and learning for that special summertime experience. Campers are grouped by age and activities are planned accordingly. Each week’s activities will revolve around a new theme. WEEK 1 JUNE 27-JULY 1: “IMAGINE THAT! A DINOSAUR!” Explore the wild world of animals, dinosaurs and the great natural spaces all around us. Opening day flag ceremony on the front lawn. WEEK 2 JULY 5-8: “RED, WHITE AND BLUE” Bring back the good old days of old fashioned games, crafts, scavenger hunts and a red hot summer barbeque and beach blanket party. WEEK 3 JULY 11-15: “COMM CAMP OLYMPICS” Celebrate the champion spirit with a week of sport, Blue and White parade, Olympic myths and legends, Olympics day and an ice-cream social. WEEK 4 JULY 18-22: “CIRCUS WEEK! ” Comm Camp Circus and Kids Marketplace! Carnival games, treats and tons of prizes. Comm Square Fair – Dunk the Counselors! – and Concert Friday evening. State Park on Thursday. WEEK 5 JULY 25-29: “DIG DEEP! ” Discover a world of healthy food, healthy habits, gorilla gardening and the wonderful world of gardens (including the little critters!) Surprise picnic basket! WEEK 6 AUGUST 1-5: “TIME TRAVEL MAGIC” Whoosh back in time or fly forward! Discover new worlds and adventures. Comm Camp closing picnic, talent show and parade! State Park on Thursday. Friday Field Trips: The Lands at Hillside Farm Dairy; Mannings Farm Dairy; Fullers Overlook Farm, The pool at Lackawanna State Park is open for Camp Season! REGULAR CAMP: Monday-Friday ART CLASSES AND CAMPS: Beginner / Intermediate Oil Painting Artist Instructor 9am to 1pm All Levels: $110 per week Camp activities are designed to be age appropriate for each level. The gym, playground, tennis courts and Comm grounds will be used by each group at scheduled times. Campers will be visited by guest coaches, instructors and performers. Programs are developed by the Comm and Camp staff. The three older levels will take weekly trips to Lackawanna State Park Water Park. Levels 1 will “take a trip” to the Comm’s “backyard water park” on Fridays. Level 2 will also hike to the Waverly Twp. playing field and pavilion for a Friday picnic. EXTENDED CAMP: 1pm to 3pm $45 per week EXTENDED AFTERNOON PROGRAM: 1pm to 5pm $75 per week Extended Camp and Extended Afternoon Program will be organized by the Camp Director and a Head Counselor and will provide age-appropriate games and activities. EARLY CAMP ARRIVAL: 8am to 9am $20 per week Early drop-off is available. Campers will gather in the North Wing and be escorted to their groups at 9am. COUNSELOR-INTRAINING : $360/6 weeks For girls and boys entering 8th, 9th or 10th grades, a Counselor-In-Training Program is available. Emphasis will be on creativity, problem solving skills and leadership skills. Cost is $360 for the six weeks or $120 per week up to three weeks. Separate application required, available online. LUNCH: Lunch is scheduled for one-half hour each day. Campers may bring lunch or order it at Camp. Lunch money and forms are collected on Monday morning only. The lunch menu is Hot Dog or Pizza with Snack ($2.00), Yogurt or Fruit ($1.50), Peanut Butter & Jelly with Snack ($1) and Drinks are no charge. Please do not include lunch money with camp fees. *Space limited to ten CIT’s per week. Please note your preferred weeks. COMM KIDS AFTER SCHOOL! (Summer!) A State-Certified Child Care Center serving families in the Abingtons and beyond. Offered throughout the school year and following Comm Camp for children grades K – 6th grade, Morning Kindergarten program at 11:30am each school day. Full day extended summer sessions offered: June 13 – June 24 and August 15 – September 2, 2016 M – F 9am – 5pm. Organized play, activities and homework supervision through the school year. Kindly check in advance to determine availability. All campers must report to the lobby on the first day of each week of Camp to sign in, complete weekly permission slips and submit lunch orders.
