SECOND ANNUAL CRISIS 10K / 5K / FUN RUN
Our second annual CrisisRUN was held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Wingate University. CAM would like to
sincerely thank all of the sponsors, participants and volunteers who made this event a huge success. Although we
experienced inclement weather during the race, it did not dampen the spirits of the participants. Our total revenue
from the race is approximately $12,500 with residual funds still trickling in. We had hoped to raise more funding, but
we are pleased that school and church groups are recognizing the event and expressing increased interest.
For the second year, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Forest Hills partnered with CAM in this event.
Kevin L. Helms, a teacher at Forest Hills, provided the following details about their fundraising effort. “In addition to
recruiting students and staff to participate in the 5K/10K run, the club raised over $700 to support the local agency.
Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry presented the club with a trophy for their fundraising efforts.
Doug Brandes from the Crisis Assistance Ministry in Monroe appeared on the morning broadcast to
explain the mission of the agency to help students better understand how their services work. Following the interview on the broadcast, students and staff at Forest Hills participated in a “Minute-to-Win-It” challenge, whereby first
block classes collected coins to see which class could collect the most money in 60 seconds. As a school -wide effort,
over $700 was raised to support the Crisis Assistance Ministry. The winning class was Mrs. Ballard’s Spanish class
who raised over $300. The winning class received a Bojangles breakfast for their efforts. Race day was a cold and
rainy one this year, but it did not stop many Yellow Jacket students and staff from participating. In the
end, several runners received awards for their finishes, including Frisco Poole (pictured below) who was the overall winner for the 10K.” The picture in the upper right-hand corner below shows CAM’s President, Joyce
Ingold, and Vice-President, Doug Brandes, holding the donation presented by Forest Hills FCA organization.
According to Doug Brandes, “Forest Hills has done an amazing job in fundraising and I hope other schools in Union
County will follow their lead in future years.” Thanks again to all participants! You have made a difference!!!!

APRIL 2013
Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) provides emergency assistance with housing and utilities to neighbors
in need who do not qualify for public assistance. In the month of March, the generosity of our supporters enabled us to
assist 156 clients. We provided housing payments for 35 clients, utility payments for 86 clients as well as transportation assistance and food to other clients in need. Our staff also made 437 referrals connecting our clients to other
resources.
This assistance was made possible by the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses, schools and organizations in
our community.
WRCM New Life 91.9 Donates Furniture to CAM
Our agency was recently blessed with a delivery of furniture from WRCM New Life 91.9 Radio Station. They provided
a couple of desks, chairs, lamps, a conference table with chairs, a microwave and other various items for our offices
(some items pictured below). We are sincerely grateful for their continued outreach to our ministry and the uplifting
ministry they provide to a wide listener-base.
Our agency does not budget purchases such as office furniture, so donations like this are so beneficial to our staff in
enhancing efficiency and office appearance. They are also beneficial to our clients in allowing all monetary donations to
go to direct client assistance. Please keep our agency in mind if you are renovating and have extra furniture, legal size
filing cabinets, etc. that needs a new home.
