2015 Champagne Saber Line by: Tool Couture
2015 Champagne Saber Line by: Tool Couture Designing and fabricating functional art in Kenmore, Washington – USA The 2015 Champagne Saber line by Tool Couture places highly functional sculptures in your hands, your home, and your kitchen. The perfect personal or corporate gift for the person who has everything – A simple and powerful way to appreciate and recognize your most important relationships. William Belickis, Chef / Owner of Seattle’s Mistral Kitchen, (whose restaurant interior was designed by internationally renowned Seattle architect, Tom Kundig), says, “Tool Couture’s line of luxury tools represents one of the most exciting, current, and ingenious expressions of functional art coming out of the Pacific Northwest.” With a nod to the French, Tool Couture’s champagne saber is the first production champagne saber ever made in the United States. The saber’s design, balance, and leading edge geometry allow both experts and beginners to use this luxury tool with ease. The guard and pommel are black-‐oxide finished kitchen grade stainless steel. The handle is a multi-‐
tapered, dense, exotic polymer. The guard is tapered by hand, and formed by cold pressing, blacksmithing, and modern welding. The blade is hardened 5160 carbon steel. This semi-‐custom handcrafted tool and stand can be ordered in multiple colors. The 2015 palette includes, Tornado Red, Cobalt Blue, Herb Green, Otter Black, and exotic hardwoods on select models. Built to withstand centuries of use, the Tool Couture saber is naturally regarded as an heirloom quality artifact. There are no pins or nails of any kind holding the saber together. The unique central shaft fastening system used to assemble the saber creates a tool that feels supremely integrated. Ron Zimmerman, Co-‐Founder and owner of The Herbfarm restaurant “America’s Top 10” – ZAGAT SURVEY 2007, New York Times, “A Chef Creates Culinary Alchemy in His Exotic Garden” described his first impression of his personal Tool Couture champagne saber follows: “This is the finest Champagne Saber I’ve ever seen, a thing of beauty and function.” We created the Tool Couture saber after 18 months of testing during which time over 250 bottles were sabered. In an effort to create the best champagne saber in the world, we modified materials, refined leading edge blade geometry, tempered the blade, selected appropriate blade hardening grades, and adjusted balance. Its balance is perfect for the task at hand. Balance resides right behind the guard which is ideal for both experts and beginners. Even its weight, at 2.75lbs., is intentional. Its weight allows for enough inertia to be developed so even a timid novice can have success by just moving the blade into and through the strike point. Tool Couture co-‐founder and designer Michael Prendergast, has a simple philosophy – Everything we make must meet three standards: •
•
•
It must stand on its own as a visually stimulating and engaging sculpture; It must have a very high level of functionality; and It must highlight the materials and techniques used.
