C. Norm Evans, DVM, Florissant, MO, USA
Friday & Saturday afternoon, November 6 & 7, 2009
Norm Evans, DVM has worked with camelids for twenty three years and has a 100% camelid
practice. With an existing background in large animals, he brought to the industry an interest
in herd health and nutrition and its effect on growth, reproduction and fiber production. He
has published 3 Veterinary Alpaca Field Manuals and has conducted numerous seminars in
the US, UK, Canada, and Japan. His Veterinary Field Manuals and seminars are geared to
basic issues encountered by alpaca breeders and their veterinarians. His major focus the last
five years has been the identification of male and female genetic traits through the skin biopsy
and the propagation of those traits via nutrition to maximize fiber production.
To register for the Seminar with Dr. Norm Evans, please go to www.FarmFairInternational.com
SEMINARS
Morning session: Breeding Thru Birthing & Mother and Cria:
Dr. Evans will discuss selection, breeding protocols, pregnancy monitoring, birthing issues, cria assessment and
mother assessment. Special considerations are offered for the weak cria and the stressed mother.
Afternoon session: Detailed Steps in Breeding Selection to Maximize Fibre:
This seminar involves interrelationships of picking genetics, nutrition, and controlling stresses for the breeder to
maximize fiber production.
Post Seminar: How to Produce Fibre that Judges will Reward:
Will follow the above seminar and show via the fiber biopsy several strong genetic fiber traits passed by the
male and by the female and the owner management that is necessary to maintain value of the breeding fee.

W
elcome to our 4th A.L.P.A.C.A. Odyssey Female Sale.
A.L.P.A.C.A. was established in 1996. We
are an enthusiastic group of alpaca owners
who collectively promote the Canadian
alpaca industry, the well being of alpacas
and the appreciation of their fibre. Our
purpose is to create an environment for
small and/or large producers with equal
opportunities in today’s ever changing
market. Our club has a membership of
approximately 40 farms.
We are proud to be offering 21 top
quality female alpacas from consignors
from the three western provinces: British
Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
These excellent females were selected by a
special committee for their conformation
and fleece qualities . As you can see, there
is a good variety of color to choose from.
All alpacas will be veterinary checked for
breed standard disqualifiers the day prior
to the sale. They are also all guaranteed by
the owner to be reproductively sound.
Last year’s sale was broadcast live, via
internet, with Western Livestock Exchange
www.wlex.ca. We were very pleased with
the results, so Mark Shologan from WLEX
will be back again this year. There will be a
parade of the sale alpacas at noon on
Saturday, November 7th and Mark will be
broadcasting this live, so you can preview
the animals prior to the sale. Sale time is set
for 8 P.M. on Saturday, November 7th, 2009.
See you there... but, if you unable to attend
and would like to bid, you may contact Mark
Shologan from WLEX – at 780-699-5089 for
phone-in bidding or internet bidding.
The sale is being held in conjunction
with our annual A.L.P.A.C.A. Odyssey
Show and the Alpaca Canada AGM and
Conference and the Canadian Llama &
Alpaca Association AGM. This show is one
of the largest in Canada and this year, by
combining it with the sale, we anticipate it
will be even larger. There will be Halter
classes, Get of Sire, Produce of Dam and
Breeders Best 3 competitions. We are also
giving out prize money to 5th place as well
as Championship classes.
Please join us for 3 full days
of Alpaca fun!!

ELAL Sylva is a beautiful girl comprised of fantastic
bundles of crimp with extreme fineness and uniformity.
She is the daughter of ELAL Cadena and Cperuvian
Aldo. ELAL Cadena has proven that she has what it
takes to pass on the award winning genetics of her
heritage. ELAL Sylva's sire, Aldo, is an original import
and has proven himself to be honorable to his offspring
by producing supreme champions several times over.
At fourteen years of age he still carries beautiful lustre
and very extreme density. ELAL Sylva also carries these
same qualities within and throughout. She has that
desirable full-face coverage and long silky locks of
lustre. This is the type of white fleece that produces the
finest marketable products that are worthy of putting
your name on. ELAL Sylva is a true emblem of "A real

excellent opportunity to add extraordinary lineage to
your herd. Lotus Leaf is being sold with her 2009

DEA Marika

Fawn
D.O.B.: 06/01/08
From the day she was born, Marika showed that she was a
special young female. Her beautiful fawn color and pretty
feminine head caught our eye each time we scanned our
cria. As she matured, her fleece became exceptionally long
with high frequency crimp. As her second fleece grows out it
has a soft, silky feel. Marika’s fleece was tested in Australia
using the GIFT testing and analysis service. This showed a
1.1 micron variation from shoulder, mid side and hip areas
which makes her highly suitable for reducing fibre diameter
variation across the fleece. The analysis also showed a
.5mm per day growth of her fleece, higher than any other
alpaca in our tested herd. Marika has an impressive
pedigree with her lineage tracing back to Jolimont Peruvian
Ringo and Jolimont Peruvian Pauco on the top side and
Jolimont Peruvian Alpamayo and Peruvian Bonanza on the
bottom side. Marika matured early and was bred to Aztec
Ignite, our S. Accoyo Arctic Ice son, for a June 2010 cria.
Our first Ignite cria have arrived this year and they are
impressive. This is your chance to bid on quality genetics in
a young quality female.

Cadena is 4 years old and is the daughter of Tina
and Anderson. Her mother, Tina, is sired by Armani
P29 who was a Peruvian Import with extreme
density, fineness, and large bundles of curls. He was
straight and solid in his stature; a real macho in his
time. Cadena's sire is Anderson who is 9 years old
and maintains his honorable fleece quality of
fantastic density and bundles of crimp. His offspring
have proven to be of excellent quality as has been
exhibited in the show ring. To his credit they have
achieved many 1st and 2nd ribbons, including
Supreme Champion Fleece award; himself standing as
Reserve Champion. Cadena is being presented in the
same truth. Her fleece is very dense with uniform,
crimpy bundles. In her solid bone structure she
stands correct. She is a very good mother with a quiet
disposition, an easy birther and has lots of milk. At
present she is bred to CPeruvian Aldo to give a June
6, 2010 baby.

Chickadee is an attractive female with typy conformation, solid
bone and excellent overall coverage from ears to toes. Her fibre
is very dense with a medium bold crimp type and shows very
good length. Excellent genetics in this girl with Rocamundo on
her sire’s side and Peruvian Captain Nemo and NGG Lionel on
her dams. Her Sire: Rockahn is an offspring of Rockamundo
who has crimpy fibre with great length, shine and great density.
Chicklet, her very attractive friendly dam, is a Lionel daughter.
She has given us 3 excellent female crias. Chickadee is bred to
our co-owned stud, Amber Tucker of RFA Turk (an Ivano
offspring). She is due in May 2010. Tucker has beautifully soft,
shiny fibre, low micron, excellent handle and very good density.
He did exceptionally well in the US and Canadian show circuit
as a yearling and continued winning Grand Champion Color at
the Alpaca Canada National Fleece show in 2008. What an
