proposed a nationwide "Environmental Teach-in" on college campuses. Denis Hayes led the organizing
effort which involved 20 million

Day on April 22, 1970. It led to the
creation of the EPA and the passage of
the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water
Act, and the Endangered Species Act.
Earth Day is organized every year in
