Un tuffo nella piscina affacciata sulla baia di
Palermo e circondata da lussureggianti giardini,
accarezzati dal calore del sole siciliano e deliziati
da un piacevole cocktail nel nostro bar a bordo

Un’esperienza in una prestigiosa villa,
appartenuta alla famiglia Florio, ristrutturata da
Ernesto Basile alla fine dell’Ottocento, viziati
dall’esclusiva combinazione tra preziosi interni e
moderne attrezzature.
La fine dell’Ottocento rappresentò la
Primavera Siciliana.
Ignazio Florio acquistò una villa privata
appartenente a Sir Domville per realizzare una
casa di cura presto convertita in lussuoso hotel.
Nell’estate del 1898 i Florio conobbero il
famoso pittore Giovanni Boldini che realizzò,
durante il suo soggiorno nella Villa, un
ritratto “Dell’Unica” nome dato da Gabriele
D’Annunzio a Donna Franca Florio.
Oggi il quadro si trova nell’omonimo ristorante
dove lo si può ammirare in tutto il suo splendore.

the Florio family, restyled by Ernesto Basile at the

The end of the 19th century represented the
Primavera Siciliana.
Ignazio Florio bought a private villa belonged to
Sir Domville to create an exclusive health centre
converted into a luxurious hotel.
In summer 1898 the Florios met the famous
painter Giovanni Boldini. While he stayed in Villa
Igiea he portrayed a painting of “The Unique” as
the famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio used to
name Donna Franca Florio.
This masterpiece is admirable in our exclusive
dining restaurant.
L’Excelsior Hilton Palermo è ubicato nel
quartiere Liberty della città, tra il Giardino
Inglese, Villa Garibaldi e Villa Trabia.
Il complesso, edificato nel 1891 in occasione
dell’Esposizione Nazionale di Palermo e
concepito come opera temporanea, era
inizialmente costituito da strutture portanti in
legno, atte ad essere facilmente smontate al
termine della prestigiosa manifestazione.
Tuttavia, non diversamente da quanto accadde
per opere simili, il suo successo e l’intuizione
di trasformarlo in una struttura con finalità
alberghiere lo mutarono nell’edificio tutt’oggi
esistente, in seguito a un accurato restauro,
opera dell’architetto Basile cui il progetto fu
affidato nel 1925.
L’hotel, è considerato uno dei più prestigiosi tra
gli alberghi storici presenti in Sicilia.
Excelsior Hilton
The Excelsior Hilton Palermo is located in the Art
Nouveau quarter of the city, between the English
Garden, Villa Garibaldi and Villa Trabia.
The complex, built in 1891 to house the
National Exhibition of Palermo and conceived
as a temporary construction, was initially raised
from timber support structures, intended to be
dismantled easily at the end of the prestigious
show.
However, as often happens with similar
constructions, its success and the idea of
transforming it for use as a hotel led to the
building that we see today, following careful
restoration by the architect Basile to whom the
project was entrusted in 1925.
The hotel is considered to be one of the most
prestigious of all the historic hotels in Sicily.
Glamour
A vederlo adesso è ben lontano dal palazzo che si fece costruire l’industriale
Ingham-Withaker, in mezzo al terreno acquistato nel 1856. Un angolo inglese
coloniale, con tanto di chiesa di rito anglicano eretta in stile neogotico oltre il
giardino, per la cura spirituale della folta colonia britannica.
Enrico Ragusa nel 1874 trasformò la dimora inglese in Grand Hotel Et Des
Palmes, per i palermitani, subito e per sempre le Palme. Nel Grand Hotel
riaffiorano ancora il gotico, il neoclassico, il barocco, ed il liberty.
A due passi dai due grandi teatri famosi nel mondo, il Politeama Garibaldi e il
Teatro Massimo.
I primi ospiti importanti furono Wagner che rifinì il suo Parsifal. Il siciliano
Francesco Crispi vi alloggiò nel 1885 da presidente del consiglio, impartendo
lezioni di politica.
Nel 1907 Ernesto Basile “master piece” dello stile architettonico Liberty, viene
incaricato nel rivisitare il progetto con una atmosfera puramente Art Nouveau.
La hall è arricchita con opere in marmo di Carrara di gusto tardo neo classico,
attribuite alla scuola del Canova.
Ori e marmi, specchi e velluti fanno del Grand Hotel et Des Palmes un luogo
unico destinato agli eventi più significativi.
Per molti anni fu il punto d’incontro obbligato per i migliori nomi dell’aristocrazia
siciliana, del mondo dell’arte, della cultura e della finanza internazionale.

Originally, the Grand Hotel et des Palmes was the Whitakers home with a Anglican
church built in neo-Gothic rite over the garden, to take care the spiritual thick of the
British colony.
Enrico Ragusa who decided in 1874 to turn this building into a Grand Hotel Et Des
Palmes, well-know in Palermo as Hotel Le Palme.
Located in the heart of the city of Palermo, just a few steps from the important
theatre, The Politeama Garibaldi and the Teatro Massimo.
Here as a favourite place of Richard Wagner, who found the inspiration to complete
his Parsifal.
The Sicilian Francesco Crispi stayed there in 1885 as Premier, teaching politics lessons.
Ernesto Basile, a renowned representative of the Italian Art Nouveau, restyled the
lobby in 1907 and gave a Liberty touch.
The hall is enriched by Carrara marble works in the Neoclassic style, belong to
Canova school.

belli di Ortigia, poiché lo “Scoglio” siracusano
ha l’incanto del paesaggio e il mistero del mito
