Alexa Raquel
Alexa Raquel (yes it is her real name)
is making quite a stir in the Philly music
scene..
When people see her do what she does,
which is combine high level dance moves
and world level vocals into a package of
just 18 years of age, they’re pretty blown
away. She’s probably done more in her few
short years in the business than alot of
veteran performers, including performing
at the Wachovia sports complex, live performances on the Boardwalk in Wildwood
and all the A rooms in the Philadelphia
area like The Buck Hotel, Alfies and Jokers
to name a few. Alexa was even asked to
represent channel 29 at the American Idol
Competetion in Philadelphia, which she
did and made it to round two out of over
seventeen thousand contestants.
Alexa’s versatility in singing styles from
Celine Dion to Joan Jett, and even Zeppelin
to GodSmack put her into a category all
her own. Alexa is not just another pretty
face, she has two original CDs and a killer
rock band (WILDCHILD) and her upscale,
high- energy dance band band SAPPHIRE,
which are all doing really well....
She’s really a nice girl and loves what
she does..She even sang for the Bishop
last week leading the whole Archdiocese
choir, much of the service being in latin.
Anyway ,check out WILDCHILD at
www.myspace.com/wildchildband to
see for yourself.
Please Please Me is an adrenaline-filled
modern rock/party band from the
Philadelphia area. Consisting of six
talented musicians, these boys aim to
“please” the crowd with every show
they play. Combining impeccable musicianship with non-stop energy, these
guys know how to get the crowd going
every night. PPM has already made an
impact on the scene, playing all over
the tri-state area, including Reed’s,
Finnigan’s Wake, Brownies 23 East
and Fager’s Island (Ocean City, MD).
These guys have been perfecting their
respective crafts since they were kids,
and bring previous experience from
the original and cover music scenes.
With each member possessing the
ability to front songs, you just never
know what to expect. Covering a wide
range of music from “Run-Around Sue”
to “Crazy Bitch”, PPM plays what the
crowd wants to hear and more.
Please Please Me was formed in the
summer of 2006, when Christian and
Walt of Split Decision approached
founding member (and guitar player)
Mike Smolenski about managing a new
band. After enjoying moderate success
in other cover bands, Mike saw this as
the perfect opportunity to really make
an impact on the scene.
Mike has been playing guitar since
8th grade, being influenced by metal
and heavy rock. Self-taught, he has
honed his skills by playing guitar with his brother
and father (who also play guitar). Mike has loved
performing in front of others since he picked up a
guitar, playing live only a year into his learning the
guitar. After trying the original scene, Mike moved
into the cover band business, where he has since
remained, earning valuable experience. His goal is to
simply shred your face off with his guitar and leave
you begging for more.
PPM needed a drummer, and luckily, they found
one in Mark Siedlecki. One of the most solid drummers on the scene, Mark also brings much experience to PPM, playing in several original and cover
bands. Mark takes his craft seriously, and continues
to learn to this day, taking lessons from drummers
in some of the biggest bands, including: Breaking
Benjamin, Silvertide, Collective Soul and the Hooters.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Cowbell”, Mark lays
down the groove for the ladies to dance to all night

BENEFIT AT CHAMBERS 19
BENEFIT AT CHAMBERS 19 FOR
LT. TRAVIS L. MANION, USMC
By Michael Davis & Lisa Young
Horizon Press Company
On 4/1/08, Chambers 19 Bistro & The Other Side
Bar, located at 19 N. Main Street in Doylestown,
PA hosted a very special benefit for one of our
local Marines who lost his life in the war in Iraq,
1st Lt. Travis L. Manion, at the much too young age
of 26 years old. This loss hits especially close to
home as 1st Lt. Travis L. Manion was the nephew
of Michael Gretz.
Michael Gretz is the president and owner of
Gretz Beer Co. in Norristown, PA. Gretz Beer Co.
has been serving Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware
and Berks counties for over a decade selling more
than 6 million cases of beer annually. On 4/1/08,
Michael Gretz and some of his top staff, Greg
Schwab, Eric Schneider and Joe Morris were at
Chambers 19 Bistro & The Other Side Bar for a
much different reason than their usual stop to sell
beer. They were there to not only remember and
honor Michael’s nephew, but to hold a benefit to
raise awareness about all of our heroes overseas fighting this war and money for the Travis L.
Manion Foundation. Lt. Manion’s mother and family
were also at the benefit, as was everyone who
came out and completely packed the bar.
Also in attendance were the owners of Chambers
19 Bistro & The Other Side Bar, Earl and Matt
Caffery. There were raffle tickets for shirts, key
rings, and sporting items, as well as bracelets
bearing Lt. Manion’s name available for purchase
in an effort to raise funds with all proceeds of
the benefit going directly to the Travis Manion
Foundation. Michael Gretz served as a celebrity
bartender for his nephew’s benefit and served
up beers as quickly as the crowd ordered them.
There was also live music throughout the evening.
Chambers 19 Bistro & The Other Side Bar is a
wonderful establishment and the Caffery brothers do an amazing job as owners. Chambers 19
Bistro is absolutely beautiful. From the burgundy
awning, ambient lighting and paintings that adorn
the walls to the incredible, high-end, delicious
items on the menu. The bar boasts rich wooden
walls, brass rails, TV screens for watching sporting
events and dozens of different beers on tap. The
Other Side Bar is charming and elegant to say
the least.
The benefit went very well with so many people
coming out to support the family and as the evening progressed, Lt. Manion’s mother got on stage
and thanked everyone for coming out to honor
her son and help raise funds for the foundation which
bears his name. So, although it was a somber occasion,
everyone was in high spirits and gave as much as they
could to help the foundation. After more than 5 years
of having our loved ones fighting this war in Iraq, it is
very easy to forget how many of our brothers, sisters,
mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins and children,
have given their lives to ensure that we can enjoy the
freedoms we have here in the United States.
As of 4/1/08, over 4000 of our troops have lost their
lives and will not be coming home to their friends and
families. Hopefully this war will end soon and all of our
armed forces will be able to come home. There are
enough benefits held every year for many causes. An
end to this war can’t come soon enough. Hopefully in
the near future, families and friends will not have to
hold any more benefits for lost loved ones as a result
of the war in Iraq. Until that day comes, it is important
that all of us living in the United States continue to be
as supportive as possible to those families who have
suffered losses and to remember that all Americans in
the armed forces are all heroes! For more information
on Chambers 19 Bistro & The Other Side Bar, visit
WWW.CHAMBERS19.COM. For more information
on the Travis L. Manion Foundation and how to donate
to the foundation, you can contact Michael Gretz at
[email protected]. For more information about
the Gretz Beer Co. visit WWW.GRETZBEER.COM.

THE BODEANS HIT THE ROAD
TO PROMOTE NEW RELEASE
by Rob Nagy
If there ever was a band that epitomized good old American rock and
roll at its best it is “The BoDeans”.
Formed by singer songwriters and
high school friends Sammy Lianas and
Kurt Neumann, the BoDeans, which
included Guy Hoffman on drums
and Bob Griffin on bass, created a
signature sound highlighted by the
unmistakable harmonies of Lianas and
Neumann. They soon amassed a significant cult following that would land
them a major recording contract, national tours and a longevity few artists
enjoy. After more than twenty years,
with Lianas and Neumann still at the
helm, the BoDeans have just released
their eight album “Still”, as they hit the
road for a year of extensive touring
throughout the U.S. and beyond.
The BoDeans first came into prominence in 1986 with their Warner
Brothers debut “ Love & Hope & Sex
& Dreams”, a title taken from the line
of the Rolling Stones song “Shattered”.
It didn’t take long for the BoDeans to
find fame. Music fans latched onto
their fresh harmonies and simple
songwriting while critics praised the
band, exemplified by “Best New Band”
honors from Rolling Stone Magazine.
Their 1987 sophomore release “Outside Looking In”, featured the band
as a trio with the departure of their
drummer Guy Hoffman, and went on
to chart in the top 100. Rock legends
U2 took notice enlisting the BoDeans
as their opening act on the Joshua
Tree Tour this same year placing the
BoDeans in front of hundreds of thousands of rock fans that they would
never have reached on their own.
“When we toured with U2 we played
shows in front of 80,000, 90,000
people” recalls Neumann. “It was an
incredible six weeks.”
Lianas added, “Just to be in that world
that was the biggest tour at that
time. We learned a lot just watching
how they do it. It was an honor to be
asked to open for U2. Here was a
band that could have had anyone they
wanted to open and they chose us.”
Rock legend and co-founder of “The
Band”
Robbie Robertson, used the BoDeans
on his self titled debut giving more
credibility to a band on the rise. Subsequent releases and concert tours
continued through the mid nineties as
Lianas and Neumann performed and
recorded with varied musicians to
back them up. With the release of
“Blend” in 1996, the BoDeans continued to perform live but they did not
release anything new until 2004 when
their Zoe Records debut “Resolution”
came out. Their song “Closer To Free”,
which was from their 1993 release
“Go Slow Down”, became a hit when
the TV show “Party of Five” used it as
their theme song. With their most
recent release “Still”, their first in
three years, the BoDeans have offered
up one of their finest works giving
fans a collection of well crafted songs
that are as strong and vibrant as
anything they have done to date. Of
the dozen tracks standouts include
“Pretty Ghost”, “Round Here Somewhere”, “Waste A Lifetime”, “Willing”
and “Lucille”. “I think it is our best
record”, says Lianas. “All the songs
work well together. I think it’s a
representative of all the things we do
well with even more of our signature harmonies.” In this ever changing music climate with record sales
remaining stagnant the BoDeans have
have adapted to the times in order to
make a living. “You don’t make money
selling records unless you sell a ton of
them”, says Lianas, “Now that bands
like us are doing it ourselves, if we can
sell 10,000 we can do nicely, but you
still have to go out there and make it
happen. It is a fact across the board
that the only way to make a living is to
play live”, added Lianas. “We’ve always
made more money from playing
shows than records.”

On April 4th the BoDeans played to a
sellout crowd at Philadelphia’s World
Cafe Live offering up a two hour set
of BoDeans classics as well as
selections from their new release
“Still”. While most of the audience
were visibly long time fans from back
in the day, many wearing their vintage
BoDeans concert t-shirts, there were
a number of young fans representing
the next generation. The BoDeans
“Still” can be purchased through the
Target retail store chain as well as the
bands websites www.bodeans.com or

Lauren
Hart
Sings And Brings
‘Good Things’
To Us All - Part 2
My conversation with Lauren Hart
continued as we talked about her
music and her thoughts on life around
it. She started by explaining how
her music’s changed. “It’s just gotten
better.” “I’ve learned and understand
more.” “I don’t think I’ve learned so
much that it’s stale because you can
that.” “You know too much for your
think animals are so magnificent and
I love them.” She smiled.
own good.” “My life’s changed along
with my music and friends.” “The
music business has changed within
the span of ten years.” “If you want
to continue in this business you really
have to move with it.” “You never
change your essence and never change
who you are though.” “Always keep
your ideas fresh so you can keep
people and yourself interested.”
I asked about influences. “Amazing female singers and vocalists like
Gladys Night, Dianna Ross and Beverly
Sills.” “As a little girl my dad took
me to see Lena Horne and I was
so excited.” “My parents were more
into jazz, opera and classical then
rock and pop music.” “I was first
exposed to them and then the great
songwriters like The Beatles.” “I saw
Sergeant Pepper with Peter Frampton
when I was a child.” “It wasn’t really
what their music was about but I
I asked what musicians she’d like
to work with. “Bono because he’s
everything a rock star should be and
he’s also socially conscience.” “He’s
great at what he does and makes
great music.” “He took his fame and
turned it into so something worthy.”
“He’s taken it to the next level and
he’s still a star.” “He’s not ashamed
to wear the big glasses and have a
good life.” “I love Alicia Keys and I
think she’s great.” “I think she’s one
of the few out there that are really
gifted as a musician and not just
someone who is famous.”
figured it out.” “I like the way people

then replied. “That I make a living
time or place even though they may
be reflective of that time and place.”
“I remember hearing Janis Joplin when
I was little and I was like oh my God
how’s this?” “I need to figure this out
and find out what this is all about.”
Does she have advice for young
musicians. “The only advice I have
is the best advice my father gave
me.” “He said know your craft and
everything there’s to know about it.”
“Learn it inside out, upside down and
backwards.” “Every chance you have
to sing just say yes.” “A big part of
the process is just being out there
around other people and other musicians.” “The more you’re out there,
the more experience and confidence
you’ll have.” “There’s always somebody
else right behind you and ahead of
you at all times.” She turned around
then laughed.
I wanted to know about her charities. “I support and believe in charities
for Animals, Conservation, Environmental, The Homeless and Cancer.” “People
shouldn’t be dying of aids, starving
or have malaria.” “There shouldn’t be
homeless vets or homeless people.”
“I think it’s natural for anybody that’s
socially aware to start to think less
about yourself and more about others
as you mature.” “I grew up in a family
that trained animals and were part of
a circus thing and we loved the relationship we had with the animals.” “I
out of something I absolutely love
to do.” “I never hate work and I’m
never too tired to get up to do it.”
“It’s never lasting too long and it’s
never too late.” “I don’t need any
inspiration to get up the next day.”
“The fact I’m in a profession where it
doesn’t feel anything like work than
that’s probably a good thing.” I totally
agree Lauren.

AIRBOURNE
LANDED AT NORTH STAR!!!
By Michael Davis & Lisa Young
Horizon Press Company
Airbourne played on 3/31/08 at the North
Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA and gave yet another incredible performance, but that is typical for this band who is currently on tour in
support of their debut album, “Runnin’ Wild” !
In case you aren’t familiar with Airbourne,
here is a very simple explanation. Airbourne
is a hardcore rock band originating from
Warrnambool, Australia, where they gained a
steady following by conducting business in the
Aussie pub rock tradition of AC/DC, the Angels, and Rose Tattoo. In short, four guys with
beers in hand who would rather die than be
caught wearing a pink shirt. The band is comprised of frontman and guitarist, Joel O’Keefe,
Ryan O’Keefe on drums, David Roads on lead
guitar and Justin Street on bass. They are a
loud, energized, sweaty, beer-guzzling, “real”
rock and roll band! Their music, vocals and lyrics are very similar to fellow Australian Hard
rock band AC/DC.
Brothers, Joel and Ryan O’Keeffe, grew
up in the country town of Warrnambool in
southern Australia. Joel took on vocals and
lead guitar and Ryan took up drums while still
in school. They rehearsed loud and often, So
much so that their neighbors sent the police
around with noise complaints multiple times.
Second guitarist David Roads was found in the
local pub, where Joel O’Keeffe worked. Bass
player Justin Street was located in the town’s
sand dunes by Ryan O’Keeffe while drunkenly rolling down them, and with his addition
Airbourne was complete.
Steadily playing small gigs, they put out a
self-financed EP called “Ready to Rock” in
2004. In early 2005, the band relocated to
Melbourne. Later that year, the band signed a
five album record deal with Capitol Records.
One-off shows in the Melbourne pubs turned
into one-off gigs supporting the Rolling Stones
and Motley Cr_e. A remarkable feat considering that by this stage, the band had only
released one EP, “Ready To Rock”. National
tours with the likes of Dallas Crane, Jimmy
Barnes, The Living End,You Am I and Magic
Dirt helped further hone their rowdy live
show. A main stage slot on the 2006 Big Day
Out festival solidified Airbourne’s reputation
as one of the Australia’s fastest rising bands.
In 2006, after a huge amount of interest
from several international labels, Airbourne
relocated to the U.S. to begin work on their
debut album, “Runnin’ Wild” with legendary
producer Bob Marlette. Marlette’s credits
include albums by Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper
and Shinedown. Airbourne went into pre-production, churned out 40+ songs and took the
best 11, which are on “Runnin’ Wild”. Just to
ensure their intense live energy translated to
CD, the band not only enlisted Andy Wallace
(who worked with Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana,
Linkin Park and Slipknot) to mix the album,
but made sure that the amps were set to 11
when recording!
Airbourne’s music has been featured in
several video games, such as Madden NFL 08,
NHL 08, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, Need
for Speed: ProStreet, Skate, Grand Theft Auto
IV, NFL Tour, Burnout Paradise and NASCAR
08. The song “Runnin’ Wild” was also featured in a
commercial for the console game Army of Two and
played during Monday Night Football.
From the album’s fist-pumping title track, “Runnin’ Wild”, to their rock anthem, “What’s Eatin’
You” and their explosive songs, “Too Much, Too
Young, Too Fast” and “Diamond In The Rough”,
“Runnin’ Wild” is an exercise in booze-and-sweat
soaked rock and roll that is looking to accomplish
one primary goal, to give rock and roll fans a
record that leaves them as energized, sweaty and
pumped up as the band!
If you missed the concert on 3/31/08, and you
love AC/DC and “true” rock and roll, do yourself a big favor and catch Airbourne in concert!
The band will be playing with Finger Eleven on
5/13/08 at Crocodile Rock in Allentown, PA and
on 5/14/08 at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville,
NJ. Airbourne is also on the bill for the MMR*B*Q
celebrating the 40th Anniversary of 93.3 WMMR
which will be on 5/18/08 at the Susquehanna Bank
Center (formerly the Tweeter Center) in Camden,
NJ. The headlining act for the MMR*B*Q is the
newly reunited Stone Temple Pilots. The 7 bands
on the bill are: Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Everclear, The Hooters, Airbourne, Ashes Divide and
Jealousy Curve. Airbourne is also one of the acts
on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour which will
make 2 local stops in the Philadelphia, PA area. On
8/3/08 the Mayhem Tour will be in Scranton, PA at
the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain and on
8/15/08 will stop at the Susquehanna Bank Center
in Camden, NJ. The Mayhem Tour will feature coheadliners Slipknot, Disturbed, Dragonforce and
Mastodon on the main stage. Two second stages,
are sponsored by Jagermeister and Hot Topic,
and will feature performances from Airbourne,
Underoath, Five Finger Death Punch and 36 Crazyfists on the Jagermeister stage. The Hot Topic stage
will include performances from Machine Head,
Black Tide, Suicide Silence, The Red Chord and
Walls of Jericho. So that is 5 more chances to see
Airbourne locally!
Airbourne is a hardcore rock and roll band that
has definitely come onto the music scene when
rock and roll fans needed them most. For all of us
fans that love sweat and beer driven rock and roll
with strong power chords, loud drums and songs
you can pump your fists to, Airbourne has come to
our rescue!

Ghostface Killah, and most notably Ol’
Dirty Bastard (ODB) were names I knew
but never paid attention to. When I finally
did, I liked it. The just-off-the-beat cadences,
super-rough lyrics, and smooth back and
forth raps really grabbed me once I actually listened to it. It also didn’t hurt that
Method Man appeared with Limp Bizkit on
“N 2 Gether Now” from LB’s 1999 release,
Significant Other.
Originally formed with 9 members, all of
whom also have individual ventures outside
the band, Wu-Tang is truly a rap supergroup.
However, their success has not come
without extreme sacrifice and loss. Seven of
the 9 members are convicted felons, several
having spent time in jail. And although ODB
was not technically the group’s leader, he
was the virtual face of Wu-Tang. His bizarre
lyrics and even more bizarre behavior made
him stand out, but the mania that drove him
eventually killed him. Two days before his
36th birthday in 2004, ODB died of what
was ruled an accidental overdose of cocaine
and the pain killer Tramadol.
The main reason I bring Wu-Tan up is
because y’all have a tremendous opportunity to see living history. Wu-Tang is not on
tour but are giving love to the northeast on

KR: How are your kids, wife? How
old are the kids now?
DF: Everybody’s KILLER! They’re ten, thirteen, and seventeen. The 17 year old just
played with me on stage at the LA House

is amazing! He shreds. We shot a video for
“Clouds over California” and they’re all in it.
My 10 year old has hair longer than me and
he wakes up singing Ozzy.
KR: What’s that like for you? Do
they have any real concept of
“Who You Are?”
DF: It’s great! First of all, family is everything
to me, always has been. I’m Italian, man!
Oh yeah, they get it. They fully get it, but I’m
just Dad who makes them go to bed at 10
at night when I’m home.
KR: How do you reconcile those
two worlds?
DF: It’s difficult. It’s difficult being away from
home, you know, watching those guys grow
up. I come home and they’re grown up. I
mean, c’mon. But they understand what we
all signed up for.
KR: Do you ever bring them out
[on tour] with you?
DF: No. No. I just recently brought them
to our show at Long Beach Arena with
Lamb of God. It was the first time they all
came to a show. I wanted to keep them
away from this lifestyle so they can make
their own minds up as to what’s bad or
what’s good.
KR: Yeah, I’d heard you’d given up
some things.
DF:Yeah, I don’t drink hard alcohol, I don’t
eat meat. I work out.
KR: How are things with the label
(RoadRunner Records)?
DF: GREAT! That’s just a relationship that’s
been long and cool. I’m going to try to get
them to let DevilDriver put out a double
disc.
KR: What’s it like touring with
Napalm Death?
26
DF: Oh, they’re awesome! I toured with
them over 10 years ago. I was a kid. They
tore apart a dressing room with me on my
birthday, 11 or 12 years ago in Europe. It’s
awesome seeing those guys, still doing it too.
I’m listening to a lot of country stuff, the
new Down. Unreal! The new Dax Riggs
I think is amazing. I just signed a country
artist named Will Ridge, you should check it
out. He’s unreal, kind of outlaw.
KR: So you have a label going, too?
DF: Management company, label, a lot of
different ventures besides just music. All
the aspects of the business, I’m really into
that. But the band also has a DVD coming
out, we’re going to try to get that out by
October. We have 5 or 6 songs written
for the next record so we’re way ahead of
schedule.
DevilDriver is going stronger than ever. This
is our first headlining tour with full production, lights. I wanted to wait a long time.
We opened up for everybody, man, got back
in an RV. So it’s good to see where it’s at
right now. It’s come full circle, it’s nice.
HOOTS & HOLLERS
I have a love/hate relationship with this
time of year because it’s full of great playoff
hockey and basketball, but it also marks the
end of the good sports season. I dread the
dead spot between the end of playoffs and
the beginning of football season, and I despise baseball. That said, hockey playoffs are
in full swing and I have to give loud Hoots
to the Philly Flyers for a hard-fought Game
1 and a two-to-zip drubbing of the Caps
in Game 2!!! To be fair, I also have to give
Hoots to the Dallas Stars for their 5 – 2
quack over the heads of the Anaheim Ducks.
Unfortunately I have to Holler at the
Dallas Mavericks. Guys, whut UP? I am so
sick of seeing them get within 3 points and
30 seconds and blow it. Again, and again!
I’m not sure what the problem is but they
need to fix it, and quick! They’re a great
team and their numbers show it, but the last
minute crap outs have gotta stop!
As always, thanks as always for dropping
in! Feel free to be in touch on MySpace at
myspace.com/ootkel or by direct eMail at
[email protected]. I’ll see ya in a
few weeks and until then - rock hard, rock
loud, and rock often!

Chilling Out
In The Burbs
28
with Angie Samara
By A. Samara
In my 20 years of being in the bar
and restaurant industry I have
been to and worked at many different restaurants, bar & grills, and
night clubs. My first impression of
Chill Bar & Grill I would have to
say, was very nice. It has the feel
of what I want to call a city-burb
type of atmosphere. Setting just
off the back roads of Bucks County, Pa in Holland I found the perfect little place nestled in a quaint
shopping center about 15 minutes
from where I live. I was happy to
know that instead of driving all the
way down to Center City, Philadelphia to find a good place to
eat with a great atmosphere, Chill
was just what I was looking for
and right outside my back door.
They have plenty of parking and it
was nicely lit up so you could see
it just off Buck Rd. Upon entering,
I noticed the beautiful hard wood
floors, a very tre-chic bar right in
front of me, and plenty of nicely
decorated tables and cozy booths
for dining. The color scheme was
something that caught my eye
because they
had a lot of nice
earth tones that
gave it a sort
of Mediterranean vs Tuscany
blend. The music
was also appealing as well. It
was very soothing and just loud
enough to be
able to have a
conversation
and enjoy our
meal. A young
lady by the
name of Jamie,
who was our
waitress/bartender was very
nice and had a
wonderful personality to go
with her pretty
smile. She was
very hospitable
and made our
dining experience that much
more enjoyable.
The menu itself
had a different variety of
appetizers and
entrees at a reasonable price.
I also noticed
that during the
week they have
Dailey Dishes
that start off
from a Monday
all you can eat
Mussel Madness to Sunday
Night family
dinner entrées.
We started off with the AhiTuna appetizer which was fresh
tuna finely minced with a hint of
wasabi. The dipping sauce was a
soy based green onion that was
just out of this world. Then it was
off to my lobster ravioli. This is
one of my favorite dishes whenever I go out, but there are some
places that serve tri-colored or
just your plain old fashioned raviolis witch is very boring to me.
Chill’s lobster ravioli was very
good. It was a perfect mixture
of tiger stripped eggplant ravioli
in a delightful creamy sun dried
tomato & parmesan sauce. It was
very stimulating to the pallet
and just what I wanted. Then the
owner offered us a generous
sized plate of tasty appetizers
which I had been contemplating
on which one to try from the beginning. From their tasty perfectly
cooked wings that just melt in
your mouth, their cute little mini
slider burgers, to their freshly
made hummus that was just
mouthwatering to say the least.
The portions were perfect from

the appetizers to their entrees and left me just
enough room to enjoy a delicious martini. We
moved over to the bar and flipped through
their drink menu which also had a great variety
of martinis and mixed drinks to please all.You
probably would not find as good of a variety
and special martinis anywhere else unless you
went downtown. From the Stus-tini which is a
great blend of vodka, juice & lemonade to Troys
after dinner espresso martini, I would have to
say they were fabulous! The starry lit bar it
self was very nice and something you wouldn’t
normally see in our area, so it kind of made
it a fun place to sit while watching the big flat
screen tvs and playing the touch games near by.
Suddenly, I hear the sound of two pianos and
turn around to see Joe & Tony “the Dueling
Piano” players. It was nice to see something
different for a change instead of the same
old dj & bands on a Friday night. They played
everything from Jimmy Buffet to Bob Segar
and I knew that this was going to be one of my
favorite places to hang out from now on. I also
realized that next door they have an adjoining
delicatessen as well as another smaller back
room in a pizza place like atmosphere without
a bar, now that’s perfect for bringing family and
the kids for a nice night out. All in all I would
have to give Chill Bar& Grill some serious Kudos for a job well done and a wonderful dining
experience. Troy and Stu are very nice owners
who obviously know what they are doing and

KING DAVID SHOW
AT LIBERTIES WAS AWESOME!
On Friday April 4th, just after the Liberties’ (Old Colonial) new dinner ensemble
digested their entrees, the atmosphere
took a 360 spin. The lits dimmed and a
voice was about to be coming through
the speakers. The sound of the guitar
riff off Bon Jovi’s “Runaway” over hiphop beats could heard loud and then it
started. The internet-fueled popularity of
“HouseBroken” has the crowd chanting it
word for word.
Enter King David aka Eternal Life. The
Bucks County/Philly native brought a few
hundred people out of the woodwork
to the newly remodled woodwork of
Liberties in Hulmeville PA. King David
has been rockin mics for over 10 years
now. But NOW is when its coming to
fruition. Armed with Montana Blak of
Liberty City Records, the Move Right
Entertainment team, DJ E-Dub and the
promotion of illadelph.com <http://illadelph.com/> , he has found the sound
that ALL the people want to hear out
of todays music. The merge of sampled
rock riffs, with 80’s drums and lyrics to
change the future. This is our John Lennon/RunDMC/Obama/vh1/RATM/ ignited
by the emotion of your best friend/big
brother all rolled in to something from
the other spectrum of a Eminem. This guy
is a rockstar, it just so happens that he can
rap. The smashingly loud “All I Want” had
the fans screaming, as well as the rockstar
influenced, Montana-assisted “Swagger”,
had the entire crowd moving their bodies.
An hour later, at the close of his set, King
David gave the people what they wanted,
the mega-popular “Turn Around”, which
samples Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of
the Heart”. The lights went off and even
the bar staff stopped pouring drinks to
join in on the chanting. Not to bad for a
“white rapper”, but if you ask the fans
they will say that is a insult to call him
that. He’s a rock star. Freestyle/Club
music legend Debbie Deb (“When I Hear
Music”) was in attendance, and she was
so impressed of King that she booked him
to open up for her on May 31st at KatManDu in Trenton. After the show, Deb
said “He f*ckin rocked the house, he’s got
amazing skills and I believe he’s got it”.

Why’s “Alopecia”
By Eli Sentman
I hate to use this clichéd term, but Why?ʼs newest album Alopecia is
genre-defying. Even more so than Yoni Wolfʼs last Why? project, this isnʼt an
album that you can classify easily. A bit hip-hop, a bit pop, a little bit of everything all mixed up into one. With Alopecia, Why? has put out something
that manages to be fairly original as well as pretty infectious. The lyrics are
just as cryptic and weird as ever, but somehow this works. Chances are the
lyrics really donʼt have any sort of deep meaning, but rather Yoni Wolf just
strung together a lot of words that sound good together and produce a nice
sort of effect. Thatʼs definitely a strength of the album rather than a fault.
Opening track “The Vowels, Pt 2” gives the listener a good sense of what
theyʼre in for as itʼs one of the more unclassifiable songs on the album. Itʼs
weird, but something about it just works. Even though Iʼd hardly classify it
as upbeat, thereʼs definitely something catchy and “sing-alongable”, if you
will, about it. Actually, most of Alopecia has this downbeat, almost dark sort
of sound. But not dark as in depressing or loud, or anything like that. These
songs do have a sad feel, but in a way that I really canʼt describe. Thatʼs
just more incentive for you to check it out.
The first few songs really give you a feel for the album, and this really
is the kind of CD that has a “feel” to it, rather than just seeming like a
collection of random songs by the same artist. “The Hollows”, the albumʼs
first single, is another one of the albumʼs best tracks. Like many of the
other songs it has a sort of hip-hop feel with a hook that manages to be
very catchy. Iʼm a fan for songs with good hooks and this album has plenty
of them. Case in point: the excellent “Fatalist Palmistry”, which Iʼd consider
to be the best song on the album. It stands out without sounding out of
place, although it is much more upbeat than the rest of the songs. But what
makes the song so great is its pure infectiousness. Simply put, itʼs a great
pop song, though itʼs a little weirder than most
other songs you might throw into that category.
If you find the time to listen to just one song off
of the album, check out that one, but give it a
few listens to really sink in. Then again, though,
I donʼt see why youʼd want to listen to just
one track off this album. I havenʼt had much
interest in most of the music released so far this
year, but this is something Iʼll probably consider
to be one of the better releases of 2008. To be
fair, it wonʼt end up on the top of my list, and
depending on how the rest of the year goes, it
might not be that close to the very top.
For now, though, itʼs really satisfying my taste
for good new music.

want, and move in that direction. Others will want to make demands on
you but stand fast. Get the complete story before you react. Someone
is holding back, seek them out.
Gemini (May 21-June 20) Ignoring your problems will not make them
go away it only delays the results. Face them head on and you will see
better results. They may seem overwhelming now, but deal with them
one at a time and you will see there is light at the end of the tunnel and
it is not a train.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Others are taking advantage of your co-dependent nature. Look beyond the situation and see if you can see a solution
to your involvement. Try not to live your life through the lives of others.
I know it is hard little crab but sometimes you just have to let go.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22) Just keep in mind that there is nothing that can
not be resolved. The problem may seem mountainous right now but you
will see that by seeking the answers to hard questions will bring you the
answers. Try to think outside the box there are times that you have to
take the road less traveled.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) Remembering that family comes first you might
have to deal with friends differently. Right now family is in need of you.
Staying close to home will resolve most of the problems. A trip might
have to be cancelled. Do not be disappointed you will be doing the right
thing.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) A relationship might be in jeopardy, but that is
because you have not made your needs clear. Make it understood what
you want and you might be surprised. You have skirted the issue long
enough. Come out with it and let the chips fall where they may.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) The time has come to reign in your expenses
and make a better budget. The realization of what you are spending
against what is coming in, is out of balance. Keeping up with the Jones
looks good on the outside but the piper will eventually have to be paid.
Invest in a good pair of scissors they will come in handy for cutting up
some credit cards.
Sagittarius (Nov.22-Dec. 21) A transition period is coming your way,
and will bring you a better understanding of who you are, and where you
are going. Spring/Summer will be your time to shine. Take advantage of
the good vibrations that will be surrounding you and glow in the knowledge that you will be on top of things.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan 19) Knowing when enough is enough is a talent
you must acquire. For some reason you keep beating a dead horse. If a
relationship is not going where you want it to go then the time has come
to rethink your position. Not everyone can be fixed. You tend to take
on too much of other peoples problems, and that only adds to your own.
Aquarius (Jan.20-Feb 18) Knowing what you want is a good start, and
will lead you in the right direction. Just be sure that you really want what
you are going after. What is looking good now may not be looking so
good later on. Try to think things through before reacting and making the
wrong decision.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) You have a tendency to act impulsively and
that is not a good trait. Think things out, and look before you leap.
Sometimes it is better to let things go, and not get involved. You seem
to take everything personally, and that will only cause you pain. Backing
down is not always the thing to do, but in some cases it is the only thing
to do.

THE CULTURAL LOOP - THE FRIDA KAHLO EXHIBIT
by Sandy & Jack Jacobowitz
Don’t go to the Frida Kahlo exhibit because you’ve heard all the
jokes about her eyebrows joined
at the middle and you want to see
for yourself. Don’t go because you
heard she was married TWICE to
the greatest mural artist of the 20th
century, Diego Rivera. Don’t even go
because you heard about her wild
and passionate sexual life. Go because
you will see the art of a very talented
woman who painted out of enormous
pain, who loved Mexico, the land and
its people. Her paintings are filled
with strong, earthy colors and bold
almost surrealistic images. Her pain
shows in almost every work, but especially in the self-portraits. Frida was
a childhood polio victim with a badly
damaged right leg. When she was 18
she was involved in a terrible bus accident which shattered her spine and
pelvis and probably made it impossible for her to bear children. While

recovering, her photographer father
encouraged her to paint and paint she
did with a vengeance!-pouring out her
anger, her fear and yearning for love.
One of our favorite paintings is “ Frida
& Riviera”. They are holding hands
lovingly. He is wearing an open collar
blue shirt and nondescript suit, holding a palette and paint brushes. She
wears a typical Mexican long green
skirt and red shawl. Her face is turned
towards him but his face is characteristically, turned away from her- foreshadowing his frequent infidelities.
Another not to miss painting is “The
Broken Column”. Her naked body
is torn apart at the center revealing
a mangled spine pierced by broken
nails. Her face reveals a stoic calm
except for the few tears in her eyes.
You will leave this exhibit saying “what
a woman!.”The exhibit contains 42 of
her paintings borrowed from collections in the U.S., Mexico, France and
Japan, supplemented by 118 photos
from Frida’s personal collection. Get

A singer/front-man is essential
to a good band, and Jay Thomas
(“Jay-T”) fits the bill perfectly. A
friend of Mark’s, Jay-T quickly and
confidently made his presence felt in
PPM. A newcomer to the scene, Jay-T
possesses a voice that is capable of
bringing the females to their knees.
He can sing anything, whether it is
Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bon Jovi
or Journey . Jay-T uses his talents
on the mic to get the crowd into an
energy-fueled frenzy. To top this all
off, he even tried out for American
Idol!
Joey “Bag of Donutz” Potts lays
down the heart-pumping bass lines
for PPM. Playing the bass since he
was in diapers, Joey also gained experience in the original and cover music
scenes. His influences range from
metal to funk. Imagine Flea from the

around the Philly area, gaining valuable performance experience. The
question with Todd is not what he
does, but what doesn’t he do in PPM.
Singing, acoustic guitar, keyboards, DJ
skills, he is a one-man band! Whether
bringing energy onstage or partying
between sets, Todd is impossible to
ignore.
Please Please Me’s goal is to create
a unique and memorable experience
each night. PPM takes the music
seriously, creating an undeniable,
air-tight sound that you will have no
problem dancing to all night long.
They also realize that people listen
with their eyes too, and with this in
mind, they refuse to sit still while
performing. Just like a kid with ADD,
they move around the stage every
song, interacting with each other and
the people in the crowd. People may
be familiar with their songs, but they
strive for creativity by putting their
own stamp on these songs, and performing songs you know, but don’t
hear anyone else play. Crowd interaction during the songs is also essential.
These guys have no problem with
letting you sing for them, so study
your lyrics!
In addition, Please Please Me’s aim
is to help people escape from the
boredom of the work week. When
you go to see PPM, it’s easy to forget
your troubles and have a great time.
The party starts before they even
play a note onstage, as interaction
with the crowd is a must. Whether
sharing a beer before the show,
downing a shot in between sets,
or high-fiving you on your way out
of the club/bar, these six men truly
appreciate the people who take the
time to see them every night.
