What stands between people or property
and any natural or man-made force
must be secure, quick to respond and
above all, reliable. In 1991, HESCO
Bastion Ltd began production of their
Concertainer ® unit, providing a unique
way of positioning and containing large
volumes of earth, sand, gravel or rock, to
form either temporary or long-term
structures.
During the past two decades, the
Concertainer unit has been used for
applications as varied as military field
fortifications and perimeter defenses,
national security and infrastructure
protection, land reinforcement and
architectural projects, emergency flood
protection and flood prevention.
Such is the versatility of the design, the
concept of the Concertainer system has
been applied to a number of different
products that provide solutions for both
temporary and long-term structures in
many countries around the world
including the USA, the European Union,
Turkey, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq,
Bosnia, Kosovo, Yemen, Jordan, and
the UAE.

The HESCO Concertainer unit is a
multi-cellular wall system manufactured
from welded Zinc-Aluminum coated
steel wire mesh and joined with vertical,
helical coil joints.
The result of this unique combination of
components is that the units fold flat
when empty, so that several can be
carried on a standard pallet or skid,
making transportation and positioning
efficient and rapid. As the Mil units are
already pre-assembled, once on site they
can be filled with locally available
materials such as earth, sand, gravel or
rock, with minimal manpower and using
standard front-end loaders or similar
equipment.
The standard Mil unit has recently been
further developed in direct response to
two increasingly important customer
requirements: environmental
responsibility, and the increasing cost of
recovery of material after the crisis or
conflict.
The Concertainer Mil® units are lined
with either beige or green colored
heavy-duty non-woven polypropylene
geotextile. Part-lined and unlined Mil
units are available for use in
architectural, landscaping and civil
engineering projects.
The flat-packed design of Concertainer
units enables large volumes of product
to be shipped by road using a single
truck.

The new design means that individual
cells can be opened by simply removing
a pin.
Recoverable Mil units are deployed in
exactly the same way as the previous Mil
products. Once the mission is over,
efficient recovery for disposal can begin.
The units can be recovered, flat-packed
and transported for recycling or
disposal, providing substantial reduction
in logistical and environmental impact.

Around the world, the unrivaled success
of HESCO products in the combat
environment has prompted their use
for the protection of sensitive civilian
installations that may be at risk from
hostile attack. Embassies, consulates,
government buildings, and critical
infrastructure facilities have all benefited
from utilizing the protective
characteristics of products from the
HESCO portfolio.
HRSF
The HRSF™ (HESCO Redeployable
Security Fence) is designed to provide a
rapidly deployed high-level security
fence for the protection of critical
infrastructure. The fence utilizes the
same technology as Concertainer units
and can be built on undulating or sloping
ground. The fence’s unique feature is
that it does not require a prepared
surface or excavation to place posts, but
is anchored in place by ballast.
Aesthetic covers can be supplied to
cover the ballast. Integrated portals and
turnstiles (for pedestrian access), are
also available for use with the fence.
Once the threat has receded the fence
can be simply dismantled, all materials
recovered and then redeployed to
another site or flat-packed and placed
into storage awaiting future use.

HRSF has been tested against breaching
attack by personnel and vehicle.
In trials, the HRSF successfully stopped
a 7.5 tonne truck traveling at a speed
of 30mph. As a result, the HRSF was
awarded a PAS 68 rating, making it ideal
for use as a Hostile Vehicle Mitigation
(HVM) barrier.
Concertainer
Often the threat posed by terrorist
weapons dictates that defenses must
consist of a vehicle barrier and ballistic
wall. For this type of requirement the
Concertainer unit is the obvious choice.
To meet internationally recognized
performance standards, barriers are
required to be independently tested.
These trials are conducted under strict
conditions, during which HESCO
products are subjected to direct vehicle
impact.
In the K-12 test a structure must stop a
truck with a 15,000lb gross vehicular
weight (gvw) traveling at a nominal
50mph. HESCO Concertainer units
stopped the truck in under a second. In
further trials at the Texas Transportation
Institute, a larger barrier of Concertainer
units stopped a 65,000lb truck traveling
at 50mph and within the original
footprint of the wall , meeting the ASTM
H50 standard.
BlastBloc
BlastBloc® is another HESCO product
awarded K12 certification. Unlike
Concertainer units, BlastBloc units use
strong polymer panels to contain their
fill material. The flexibility, re-usability
and load bearing qualities of BlastBloc
makes it suitable for a range of
applications where dust and dirt may
cause problems, or where the ‘military’
aesthetic of Concertainer units is
undesirable.
Increased threats from international
terrorism means that providing proper
protection for sensitive assets and
buildings is a key element in being
“ready, not afraid” - a philosophy that
lies at the heart of international
counterterrorism strategies.

Global demand for increasingly scarce
supplies of oil & gas could lead to social
and political unrest within those
countries that hold the world’s
remaining reserves. Interruption of
supply leads to global economic damage
and so the primary concern of any oil
and gas supplier must be to decrease its
vulnerability to such an event.

infrastructure security for the oil and

decreasing a facility’s vulnerability to
interruption of output in the event of an
attack by insurgents, or a potentially

Flood
protection
Flooding is not a temporary
inconvenience - flooding causes wide
scale disruption, loss of critical services,
shuts down key infrastructure and brings
devastation to communities.
With little need for complex job planning,
HESCO provides an immediate defense
to the immense threat of flood, keeping
critical assets safe whilst the longer term
planning phase is undertaken.

The unique design of the Concertainer
unit allows them to be deployed quickly
and easily in the event of a flood
warning without the need for specialist
tradesmen or equipment making it ideal

provide protection against wave damage

Retaining Walls
Concertainer units are engineered
to hold back earth or other solid
materials without overturning, sliding
or foundation failure. The modular
structure of these walls allows for
variations in sections to be easily
accommodated as the height
increases.
Reservoirs

maintenance of reservoirs where they
can be used to conserve and protect
natural shorelines, resisting erosion by
