October 2014 Honoring our Veterans Vickie Leach & Betty Piner took the time to sew a gorgeous Quilt of Valor for Turin Baptist Church's very own World War II veteran, Jim Goodrum. Jim graduated from Navy Boot Camp the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was honored as the Veteran of the Year for Coweta County in 2010. page 2 The Tie Newsletter Shoebox Christmas Mission I know we really don’t want to hear it, but Christmas shopping is just around the corner. Soon we will be gathering items to fill the shoeboxes for the children in other countries. Most of us have helped with this project in past years. Remember that we need items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, small toys, coloring books, crayons, lotions, gum and such. We cannot use homemade food products or perishables. The boxes are packed for girls and for boys. Your help will be greatly appreciated. There will be a container in the Fellowship Hall labeled for Christmas shoeboxes. More details will be given in the near future. As always, the Mission Outreach Committee of all ages appreciates your support! So why not start now by picking up items as you are out shopping. T.O.P.S. Take Off Pounds Sensibly Vickie Leach would like to introduce you to a Weight-Loss Support system called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). This is not another weight loss diet. TOPS is the short name for TOPS Club Inc. - an original, nonprofit, noncommercial network of weight-loss support groups, founded in 1948. Our mission is to support our members as they take off and keep off pounds. Our chapter meets in the Fellowship Hall at Turin Baptist Church on Wednesday mornings at 10:30. We weigh in privately and at 11:00 we start our weekly program. These programs include ideas on how to eat more healthy and sensibly, start losing weight, how to continue with these life-style changes, exercises, etc. Everyone participates with information, ideas, and ways they have found that work or don’t work for them. It’s sharing and caring about each other. Come join us! Sit in and just listen or take part and decide for yourself just how important this group could be for you. We look forward to seeing you. Please tell your friends and neighbors and bring them with you. Let’s have some fun as we work to reach our goals together! Turin Baptist Church 29 Church St. Turin, GA (770) 599-3626
