WELCOME
From the
Con Chair
things that you
really should not do
Welcome to HAMACON 5!
- Loitering in the halls. DEFINITELY NO sleeping in the halls.
WOW! It is hard to believe that it has been
only 5 years since HAMACON started out in
the old Holiday Inn across the street. What
an amazing journey it has been. After huge
growth from the awesome support of our
congoers, we now are hosting thousands
of anime fans, vendors and artists from all
over the country.
- Engaging in disruptive behavior that disturbs the public or staff.
Our lineup of guests is really great, too.
Voice over actors Micah Solusod, Ian Sinclair
and Jad Saxton are here to join the shenanigans. They will be hosting a
variety of panels and autograph signings throughout the con weekend.
Freelance writer for Otaku USA and podcaster, Paul Chapman will be
hosting several panels. On Saturday night, be sure to check out our
featured musical guest Random AKA Mega Ran, who is a “nerdcore”
rapper that brings his own style to a mix of video game, hip hop and
soul music.
We have lots interesting, educational, fun, interactive panels and
workshops this year. HAMA Brawl Z makes a return for more live action
fun. Be sure to check the schedule for all times and locations of panels,
autographs and special events.
HAMACON is teaming up with the American Red Cross for another blood
drive. They will be screening and collect blood donations on Friday and
Saturday. Let see if can beat last year’s record of 48 donated units!
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff members
and volunteers who work very hard to bring HAMACON to life. Without
them this event would not happen and we love them for their dedication.
Now of course, I have to ask a silly question. Why are you still sitting
there reading this conchair letter when you could out having the time of
your life discovering all of what HAMACON has to offer this year?
We are so happy you are here! Now go have fun!
Sincerely,
Michelle Timon,
Convention Chair

Micah Solusod
Random AKA Mega Ran
Despite his ponytail and general
inability to fly, Micah Solusod is
a professional voice actor and artist.
Or so they say.
If you put video games, the 80’s, hip-hop, soul
music, jazz and standup comedy into a blender
and hit “puree,” you’d have something close to
The Random Experience.
The rapscallion made his debut in
the anime world as Malek Werner in
Blassreiter and is best known for
his role as Soul Evans in Toonami’s
Soul Eater. He has since shown up
in other FUNimation titles as Toma
Kamijo in A Certain Magical Index,
Ao Fukai in Eureka Seven AO,
Gai Tsutsugami in Guilty Crown,
Midnight in Fairy Tail, older Ame
in Wolf Children, Coby in One Piece,
Mizuki in Kamisama Kiss, Tsutomu
Senkawa in Birdy the Mighty: Decode,
Yukitaka Tsuitsui in Level E, Jonah Mar in Jormungand, and most
recently, Bea in Space Dandy. It’s likely he’s done more but who’s
counting?
The Penn State graduate and self-proclaimed
“TeacherRapperHero” made waves by going
way left of his backpack roots by combining
8-bit video game sounds and hard hitting
hip-hop tracks, and has become a trailblazer in
the budding genres of chiptune and nerdcore
hip-hop, while maintaining a career as a
middle school teacher. Ran’s first album
“The Call” was a critical success, featuring
tracks with some of the underground’s
most respected heads.
Ran cut his teeth in the city of Philadelphia as a
teacher, freestyle rapping, producing and later
engineering at a studio. After relocating to
Phoenix, competing in the Scribble Jam emcee
battle championships and taking an early exit, Ran almost quitting before he
was even started, when a creative lightning bolt struck, and a fire was lit.
Micah also makes appearances in the Jisei series (visual novel),
Backstage Pass (otome game), Borderlands 2 (VG), Cryamore (VG),
Centipede: Infestation (VG), Tome: Terrain of Magical Expertise
(webseries) and other various media.
Random began the transformation into Mega Ran, his alter-ego, an ode to the
classic video game character Mega Man. After creating a tribute album and
receiving an unprecedented level of support and blessing from Capcom to
continue, Ran was reborn and became a trailblazer in the budding “nerdcore”
and chiptune subgenres, while coining his own term to describe what he had
done, “Chip-Hop.”
When he’s not busy making up “professional” voice acting tips on Twitter,
Micah works as a freelance artist. He is currently the lead illustrator for
the fantasy webcomic Ties That Bind and can be found on deviantART
under the username “maioceaneyes”. Believe it.
Various video game developer co-signs and admiration from the genre’s
toughest critics have led to placements in TV, movies, university coursework,
and of course, games. Random’s music and story have been shared on stages
across the world, on television (ABC/NBC News, ESPN, Portlandia, Tosh.O, WWE
Wrestling) and in leading music, gaming and tech publications, print and online.
Today, Random is no longer a teacher by title, but maintains a rigorous touring
and recording schedule, traveling the world to entertain and educate through
the gift of rhyme. You’re just as likely to hear Ran’s raps at a packed anime or
convention as in a nightclub, at a festival, in a classroom, or even at an exclusive
video game industry event.
Now that’s Random.

Cosfluff101
The Almighty Gooberzilla is a
mystery wrapped in an enigma,
which is itself wrapped in a tender,
crushed-velvet package and
launched from the Crab Nebula
at speeds undreamt of by your
feeble human science. His mission
is to spread the gospel of great
movies across the crimson murk
of the Internet, instilling Nerdvana
into the hearts of children
everywhere, all the while secretly
preparing for the coming Robo / Dino
Apocalypse, in which he plans to
ride to Valhalla on the backs of a
herd of fusion-powered
cybernetic velociraptors.
Cosfluff101 started out as a video rant
against those who didn’t believe that
cosplay was for everyone all the way back
in 2008. That video flooded with likes and
comments of thanks for inspiration. It was
those comments that prompted Cosfluff’s
founder to take to conventions and begin
running a panel all about it.
Although it
began as an instructional panel, helping
those of a “fluffier persuasion” learn to make
costuming work for them, it has since
branched out into discussing con bullies
and acceptance of all races in cosplay.
Wait. You wanted Paul Chapman though, right? That’s okay. He’s the
same guy. Or so we’re told.
Paul Chapman is an author and a film critic based in Florida. He writes
freelance for Otaku USA Magazine (www.otakuusamagazine.com) and
hosts the Greatest Movie EVER! Podcast (www.gmepodcast.com). He has
published three collections of short stories on the Amazon Kindle store
– Porn Gnomes and Other Strange Tales, Sasquatch Rides a Harley,
and Dragon Kicker XV – and is currently working on a fourth collection
entitled Ogre in an Overcoat.
The three heads of this group, Panda and
Radiance Murphy and Caroline Aberthany
hold the belief that cosplay should be for all no matter one’s size,
gender, or race. Together they convention hop and spread their word:
“Cosplay is for Everyone: Especially You.” You can check out their
facebook page at www.facebook.com/Cosfluff101.

DJ Inubito
DJ Tony T
DJ Inubito started funking around with
music back in 1998 when he started
thumbing on a bass guitar. In 2003, he
then transitioned into DJing trance and
hardcore EDM and never looked back.
But when just mixing music wasn’t he
enough, he began producing in 2007,
jumping headfirst into the nerdcore
genre. He now spins with several
groups such as Dead Terrorist DJs,
Sound Off DJs, and JABKI Bass All Stars,
and has produced with Dou(Gai)Jin
Recordings. He also has been heavily
involved in some of the largest dance
parties in north Alabama (including
HamaCon’s own “Club HAMA”) as well
as providing local support for major Drum and Bass artists such as Q-bik
and Gridlok.
DJ Tony T is an EDM DJ with a fun and
geeky twist. He’s keeps the crowd jumping
at house parties, raves, and clubs all
over the Southeast!
Having spun across the Southeast, at conventions like AWA, MTAC,
Seishun-Con, and more. DJ Inubito knows how to rock the dance floor
like none other, with trance, hardcore, drum and bass, breaks, and
only the filthiest electro house under his vinyl. When you come to
hear DJ Inubito spin, you cannot help but jump in and dance. His latest
EP, “Retrofit” is available for free download through Industrial Parasite
Records. You can find out more at www.djinubito.com!
BISHOP
Not much is known about the mysterious enigmatic sound-form known
as Bishop. Some legends state that he was found in the ruins of ancient
martian colony, raised by space wolves with only old rocket fuel for
food. Some say that he was encased in ice for a millennium before
shedding his reptilian scales for more human attire. Yet others believe
that he is the second coming of bass, and that the disbelievers will be
cleansed in large amounts of oonst. Or someone never got Basil his bio,
and this is what results.
