Mr. Taylor Bell
Candler Intern
We are not alone; we live in God’s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and
others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the church: to celebrate God’s presence,
to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Ministry
of the
Easter
Lilies
Fresh and fragrant Easter lilies will be
part of the Easter decor on our campus
again this year. The Altar Guild invites
you to make a generous gift in honor
or memory of someone dear to you.
These contributions will be used for the
floral arrangements on Easter Day as
well as other seasonal decorations
throughout the year. All contributors
and their designees will be recognized
in our bulletin on Easter Sunday. Some
of the lilies will be delivered to our
homebound members before Easter
Sunday. Others will be available for you
to enjoy at home. The Altar Guild is
grateful for your support of this
meaningful ministry. Please fill out the
form below and place it in the
offering plate or place your order by
noon on Monday, March 21, at
www.ogumc.org.
Please use one form per person
to be honored/memorialized.

United Methodist Women
Baby Celebration
Sunday, March 6
Join us in celebrating all Oak Grove babies born in 2015
on Sunday, March 6 in the Sanctuary at 3:30 p.m.
A reception will follow in the parlor for all family, friends,
and United Methodist Women members.
A Thank You from Wesley Woods
Your gifts to Wesley Woods Senior Living
in 2015 are making a big impact! Thanks
to your generosity, seniors are better able
to age with grace. One resident said
recently, “We can tell we are loved by all
that has been done for us.” Thank you for
sharing your love, and God’s love, with
over 1,500 older adults at Wesley Woods.
Lenten Offering – Get Children Involved!
Our Lenten Offering provides a large portion of the funding for our ministries that feed
children, including summer lunch bags through “Smart Lunch, Smart Kid” and
weekend food bags for students at Montclair Elementary. The Lenten Offering provides
parents a great opportunity to talk with their kids about children who need our help
and the ways Oak Grove reaches out. Children can also learn the joy of giving to others
by participating in the offering.
To give to the Lenten Offering, please use the special Lenten offering envelope that was
mailed or pick one up at church. Checks should be made payable to Oak Grove UMC
and marked “Lenten Offering”. You can also give online (www.oakgroveumc.org).
Thank you for your generosity.
Midweek moves to
Tuesday on March 1!
Midweek is moving to Tuesday on March 1 to help make the Young Children’s School Spring
Consignment Sale another big success. We moved Midweek last fall to make it easier for the
Consignment Sale volunteers to set up in Fellowship Hall, and it all worked well. We will do
that again on March 1. All Midweek activities (dinner, programs, and choirs) will move their
meeting times from Wednesday that week to Tuesday, March 1. Standing meal reservations
will apply. There will be no Midweek dinner or activities on Wednesday, March 2.
Midweek Chapel Communion Moves to
Tuesday on March 1!
All Wednesday night activities, including Wednesday Communion, will move to Tuesday on
March 1. We will return to our normal Wednesday night schedule the following week. Please
mark your calendars!
Blood Drive, Feb. 28
Our next blood drive will be February 28
from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bloodmobile will
be located in the parking lot next to the
education building. Anyone over the age of
17 can donate, and all donors are asked to
eat well and drink plenty of fluids before
giving blood. Please bring your ID. Georgia
is currently experiencing a blood shortage
and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
Building Consecration
Scheduled
On October 16, 2016, Oak Grove will
celebrate 180 years of ministry, 55 years of
Barbecue, and will consecrate our new
building. We will have one service that day at
10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Please mark your
calendars and make plans to be a part of the
celebration.
Deliver Lilies
Bring Easter Joy!
When we deliver lilies each year to our
homebound members, we share Easter joy
and remind people that their church is
thinking of them during
the holidays. To sign up
to deliver one or more
lilies, please contact
Amity Farrar
(amityfarrar@
yahoo.com or 404-4323465). Please mark
your calendar for
Saturday, March 19,
from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
to pick up a lily from
the Narthex.
Acolyte Ministry
The word acolyte comes from the Greek word meaning "to follow." An acolyte is a
person who follows Jesus Christ as Lord and who, in service to Christ, helps the congregation in public worship. Some say that the first acolyte might have been Samuel, as he
assisted Eli in the temple in Shiloh. The need for worship assistants has a long and
distinguished history, and our acolytes continue to perform a special ministry within the
church.
Each Sunday they put on their white robes and place a cross around their neck to prepare
for worship. In this act, they are immediately reminded of the task that is before them.
They center their thoughts on God in preparation to handle holy things, to help people
worship, and to help worshipers see something of the majesty and beauty of God.
The acolyte ministry at Oak Grove is a ministry of service. These young people are
serving their Lord, their congregation, and each other every Sunday.
As they process and recess the light of Jesus into and out of worship, we are reminded of
the love of Christ and how his love shines for us all. A love that is shared among our
congregational family and community.
Remember we are able to share the love of Jesus each day. His love shines through each
of us in all that we do. May we continue to bring the light of kindness, grace, and love
in the name of Jesus, as we process through life.
Jesus said, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will
have the light of life. ” (John 8:12 RSV)

Lenten Study
Sermon Series, Midweek Program, and Personal Devotion
This year’s Lenten study – sermon series, midweek program, and
personal devotion – is Adam Hamilton’s book entitled John: The
Gospel of Light and Life. Hamilton leads us through a study of the
many metaphors of John to help us understand the unique and
inspiring Gospel. Often called the most theological of the Gospels,
the Gospel of John tells the story of Jesus in ways that inspire us to
discover Jesus through the many levels of John’s metaphors of bread,
life, light, water, and vine.
You may purchase your book for $13 in the church office Sunday mornings, weekdays, or
in Fellowship Hall at Midweek using cash, check or credit card. The book is available
electronically through Kindle and iBooks or in print at Cokesbury and Amazon.

Year after year in February, the Library window has
featured wonderful displays by Randy & Sandy Yates
about the Boy Scouts. Please be sure to view this year's
window because it may be the last for some time to come.
Randy is retiring and, while he will remain active in the
Boy Scouts in some capacity, he will likely be traveling or
otherwise enjoying retirement in Februarys to come.
Thanks to Randy for all the previous windows and for all
that he and Sandy have done to promote the Boy Scouts!
