Counselor’s Corner
It’s that time of year again! We are beginning our MAP testing on Monday, October 5. All
students in grades 1st through 5th will be taking MAP (Measures Academic Progress) tests in
the areas of Math, Reading, and Language Usage. Fourth graders also will be tested in Science.
These computerized tests provide our teachers with data that they use to personalize instruction and best serve our students. The resulting information tells us where each student is academically on the day of the test and we receive it within hours after the test is taken. These
tests are very individualized with questions increasing in difficulty based upon student responses.
While we want and will use the information gathered by testing, we also want to keep students’
stress levels at a minimum. Parents, you can help us with this by having your student eat a
good breakfast and get plenty of rest during the next weeks of testing. We want everyone to do
their best and this is easier when our students are well rested and have fuel in their stomachs.
Mr. Kading developed a testing schedule that keeps regular class interruption at a minimum. We
appreciate your support during this time. Please contact Mr. Kading or myself if you have any
