What do people like best about Althoff Catholic?
English teachers, Mrs. Black
’04 and Mrs. McCracken ’00,
both got their start at Queen
of Peace Grade School.
When Ms. Pearson was an 8th
grader she came to Althoff
Catholic for a “spend-a-day”
visit. She was paired up with
Mrs. McCracken who was a senior at the time.
Fast forward 15 years—we couldn’t be more proud of them as
Althoff Catholic alumni, and we are grateful they chose to
come back to teach.
“There is so much we love about
Althoff Catholic. At the top of our
list is Vice Principal and Coach
Greg Leib. I love how he knows
each student by name and
stands in the hallway each day
to greet them. I also appreciate
the faith formation at Althoff
Catholic. These four years are so crucial, and I’m glad Scott is able
to focus on developing his relationship with Jesus and with the
church. I love how challenging the honors classes are. Scott will be
prepared for college without a doubt. I could go on and on. I am
an educator and know that no school is perfect, but Althoff Catholic
has far more strengths than weaknesses.”
-Paula Semko (parent to Elizabeth ‘11 and Scott ‘16)

Who (of Althoff’s 50
Distinguished Alumni
and Rising Stars)
Inspires
You?
Dr. Jackie Kostelac ‘04 inspires me. I
have wanted to be a dentist for most
of my life. Seeing her succeed in an
increasingly competitive field inspires
me to continue chasing my dream.
Additionally, Jackie’s successful pursuit
of specializing in orthodontics pushes
me to continue working hard so that I
might have the chance to specialize
in the area of dentistry that I find most
interesting: oral and maxillofacial
surgery.
– Laura Simoneaux
Class of‘15
I will be shadowing Dr. Patrick Neville
‘01 this summer. I am inspired by his
willingness to assist me in gaining a
better understanding of the medical
field. Dermatology has always been an
interest of mine. I want to be able to
help people feel confident in their skin;
especially teenagers since the majority
of us go through a stage of having acne
or other skin issues.
Page 15
Sister Mary Kennedy ’74 is an inspiration
to me. It was an honor to serve alongside
her in Honduras for my senior service
project. Later in life I hope to go back
to Honduras and continue to help the
people of Monte Verde.
I am inspired by Levicy Crawford ‘02,
Caitlin Embrich ’04 and Lizzie Lehde
‘04. One day I want to be a lawyer,
too. I want to make a difference. I
want to fight for the little guys and the
underdogs who no one has faith in.
I want people to get the justice due
to them, and I want to be the one to
ensure they get it. To get there, I’ll
continue to work on my speaking, get
better at debating my views on things
and telling the facts as they are.
“As a Special Agent with the United
States Secret Service, Frank Boudreaux
’88 served on the Presidential Protection
Division for George W. Bush. My dream is
to become President of the United States,
and I would love to have someone like
Frank protecting me.
- Stephen Bertelsman
Class of ’15
- Jeffrey Murphy
Class of ‘15
Brian Bayley ‘02 and Brian Hampton ‘03
are both an inspiration to me. It is my
goal to apply what I have learned about
service, leadership and teamwork as an
athlete at Althoff to a successful career
as a military leader and aviator.
- Bret Silvestri
Class of ‘15
- Aliyah Gillespie
Class of ‘16
I am inspired by Dr. John Peter ‘72
and Yvette Hoeffken ‘80 for their work
in pediatrics and oncology. “I hope
my passion for helping others leads
me to live out my dream of becoming
a pediatric oncologist, working with
children everyday.
- Gabby Sullivan
Class of ’17
Magaret Doyle ‘85 and her status in the
art world are very inspiring. My goal is
to use my art in a way that will positively
impact lives. I look forward to studying
at California Polytechnic University in
the fall.
“Matthew Poelker ‘79 and his work
at the Thomas Jefferson National
Accelerator Facility inspires me. I
hope my scientific curiosity will enable
me to participate in research that
answers central questions – the ones
that address massive problems that
modern society faces. My dream
is to apply mathematics, and the
natural sciences of all sorts, to the
advancement of psychiatric treatment.
