1. Clean: Remove the laces and footbeds. Use a nylon brush (or brass for
suede) and a litt le warm water to remove dirt, salt and debris from every
nook and cranny. Clean with saddlesoap, if necessary.
Allow boots to air dry. Avoid direct heat because wet leather “burns”
easily, becoming britt le and stiff . Heat can also damage the cement
binding the sole to the boot. Instead, stuff boot with newspaper and
replace frequently. If boots are wet and dirty, dry before cleaning.
2. Condition: Leather can get parched and start to crack. A good leather
conditioner replenishes lubricants without over-softening.
3. Waterproof: Use the waterproofi ng treatment designed for your
boots. Several applications may be necessary, and the leather may darken
slightly from its original color, but there will be a great improvement
in performance. Be sure to get ample product into the seam area; use
your fi ngers or a soft toothbrush. If you’re not sure what to use, we can
recommend specific products for nubuck, suede or full-grain leather.
