Straw and Order! End of Year Performance
Our children in Key Stage 1 were
involved in our end of term school
production of Straw and Order. They
put on a fantastic performance of
acting and singing whilst our Year 3
classes entertained us with playing
their recorders. It was brilliant to see
so many of our children demonstrate
such commitment to learning and
practising their lines and music. It
was a wonderful way to begin the
holiday season and we look forward
to exploring how different cultures
celebrate New Year.
Many thanks to Mrs Pieterse, Mrs Martins-Mitchell and all of the other adults
involved, for all of their hard work.
KS1 Playground Makeover
We would like to say a BIG THANK you to the “Friends of Highbury Quadrant” a group of parents who have
worked tirelessly to improve the play area in KS1 playground. Over the past year they have held events to raise
funds for the improvements. In the last few months we have seen them working over a number of
evenings and weekends to paint a beautiful mural on the Nursery wall, install a Play House and a Climbing Wall.
(See pictures above)
The children absolutely love the new play equipment. It is a real joy to see them playing so nicely during break
and especially during Lunchtimes
Funding has been secured and is continually being raised for a new project for KS2 playground, we know that in
the future our children in KS2 are going to enjoy their playground as much as our children in KS1.
The HQSA held their annual AGM on 20th November 2015 this year, the meeting was
delayed by a few weeks due to the refurbishment works of the school house.
We would like to thank all who attended.
Czech School Without Borders gave a wonderful presentation about our partnership
over the last few years, we would like to continue this partnership in the coming years.
Change of committee membership:
Flora Gashi stepped down from the role of Treasurer, we would like to thank Flora for all her hard work and
dedication to HQSA over the years.
Kerrianne James also stepped down from the role of secretary, again we would like to thank Kerrianne for all
her hard work. Two new members were therefore voted in.
Tanya Bryan is now treasurer, and Siobhan Smith is our new secretary.
Miss Lovell's Greengrocer kindly donated our school
Christmas tree this year which is located by the Play
centre. Four children went along and picked the tree
out and carried it back!
Miss Lovell's Greengrocer also kindly donated a fruit
hamper to our Christmas raffle! Thank you so much.
HQSA have successfully secured a £5000 grant from Schuh, towards installing storage and renovating the floor
in the small hall, we still have £9000 to raise to complete the project.
The HQSA has also raised almost £3000 towards the KS2 playground and have received a very kind parent
donation of £3000 towards this project so that’s almost £6000 so far!
We hope to push forward with this project in the new year.
Our Winter Extravaganza took place on Friday 11th December once again it was a great success.
Santa visited us in the grotto, our photographer took some lovely
photos, please remember to pick up your fridge magnets from the school office.
We had wonderfully cooked food, by our own committee members, and some lovely donations
We would like to thank Tesco's Highbury Corner, Sainsburys Dalston, Rio Cinema Dalston, Nando's Dalston,
Godfreys Butchers Highbury Barn, Barnabys Highbury Barn, and Tiger Angel, and the parents, for their kind
donations.
Our new secretary Siobhan did a great job selling the raffle tickets and her husband Ben kindly helped by
calling the raffle out! Both did a brilliant job thank you so much.
Our DJ for the night was Mr1Elusive And Joss.
Thank you to all who helped on the night.
Highbury Quadrant Male Parent/Carer Group
A big 'thank you' to all of you who attended our first male
parent/carer group of the academic year.
We hope that you will enjoy playing crazy eights, using the set of cards
that you took away, during the holiday period and don't lose too often!
(We have been told by some children that they are champions as they
have continued winning at home!)
