Club Competitions. - Millicent Members

Club Competitions.
The competitions are coming thick and fast at the moment, with another 2 majors over and
done with now.
First up is the 3 ball scramble which was won by Ray Young, George Egan and Mick Kennedy
with a very impressive score of 58.3 which was over 1 shot clear of 2nd place. Next was our
Open Invitational which was won By Aidan Cluskey with a score of 36 points.
Our second Major of the year, Vice Captain John Kehoe’s prize, took place on 25th/26th July.
Martin McCallion took the honours with a score of 39pts. Category 1 first prize was won by
Alan Cronly on 38pts, just pipping Willie Doyle into 2nd place, also with 38pts.Gavin Kenny
won Category 2 on 38pts with Tony Carton in 2nd with 37pts. Dealgan O’Ceallaigh took the
1st prize for Category 3 on 37pts with Adrian Power taking 2nd, also on 37pts. The Gross
score was won by Ross Kenny with 36pts.
Or competitions on 2nd/3rd July were split in two with a stableford competition held on the
Saturday and Scratch Cups on the Sunday. The stableford competition was won by Shay
Fogarty with 39pts with Padraig Carney in second place on 37pts. As regards to the Scratch
Cups, two were won by visitors and two were won by Millicent members. The Senior Scratch
Cup was won by Aaron Bagnall with a 2 under score of 71. Pat Fitzgerald won the Minor
Scratch Cup shooting 86.
On 9th/10th July, we had the July Medal. Peter Kenny shot a fantastic 69 to claim the overall
prize. John Hunt won Category 1 with a score of 71. David Hickey took Category 2 shooting
75 and Sean O’Drona claimed Category 3 with a 72. The Gross score was won by Aaron
Bagnall with a 76.
The third major of the year, the Presidents Prize, was held on 23rd/24th July. Kieron
McManamon produced a brilliant score of 68 to win the overall prize. Paul Mooney shot 72
to win Category 1. Padraig Carney won Category 2 with a super 69 and Pat Reddy took the
Category 3 prize with 73. Gross score was once again won by Ross Kenny with a score of 74.
Our president, Derek Killian, presented the prizes after the completion of the competition.
Interclub Competitions.
Our Straffan Cup Team was unfortunately beaten by The Castle. Congratulations to Michael
McCormack and all the lads for putting in another good run and look forward to next year.
Our Jimmy Bruen team took part in the qualifier at Killeen Golf Club on 18th/19th June.
Manager Peter Kenny put out a strong team that had scored very well in practice at Killeen
but unfortunately they could not replicate that form on the day and did not make the
playoffs. The team consisted of John Hunt, Martin Hoban, Peter Ruddy, Eamon Brannigan,
Fergal Reilly, Ronan Brannigan, Darren Dunphy, Paul Hogan, Mick Reilly, Alan Kavanagh,
Gay Hannon, John Byrne, Jason O’Loughlin and Chris Brady.
Unfortunately the news doesn’t get any better for our Junior Cup team. After winning their
qualifier in Rathcore, they were drawn against Ardee Golf Club in the quarter finals in
Tullamore. Manager Ross Kenny picked a very experienced team and although our lads
played excellent on the day, Ardee just had one of those days where everything went right
for them. This was highlighted by the fact that one of their team played the front 9 in gross
5 under par. We have an excellent Junior Cup team and they will have high hopes for next
year. The team consisted of Jason O’Loughlin, John Nolan, Ted O’Brien, Darren O’Brien, Paul
Mooney, John Hunt, Colin Gray, Rory Glover and Stephen Bagnall.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in any of the interclub competitions. We
understand that it takes up a lot or your spare time to participate in these teams and realise
the amount of time required for practicing. But I think everyone would agree that it is
worth the effort once the competition starts. Also, it is a great way to get to know the other
members of your club.
We would like to give a special mention to all the managers who also give up their spare
time but don’t even get to play in the competitions.
Once again, congratulations to everyone involved and, judging by the quantity and quality
of members wanting to be on these teams, we should be very optimistic for next year.
Junior Club.
The Juniors had two medals in July. In the first medal on 3rd July, Conor Walsh had a great
victory in the July Medal shooting a fantastic 65. Conor also won the Gross prize. Shane
McCormack won Category 1 with a score of 72. Category 2 was won by Sam McCormack
with an 86 and Eoin Walsh won Category 3 with a score of 71.
The second medal was won by Dan O’Brien with a 72, just beating Category 1 winner David
O’Neill and Category 2 winner Sam McCormack on a count back. Category 3 was won by
Eoin Walsh.
Captains Day.

The big day isn’t too far away now so it’s time to clarify the format, entry rules etc.
Entry/Qualifying Conditions
1.
Member must be fully paid up (OR UP TO DATE IF ON DIRECT DEBIT) on the date of
the event with both the club and company.
2.
Must be a member for at least a full calendar year on the date of the qualifying
competition in order to win the Captains Prize.
3. Any player that is a member for less than the calendar year may qualify for the
Captains Prize, but CANNOT win the overall prize. (i.e. can win a category prize etc.)
3.
Must have at least 4 qualifying 18 hole cards returned in the current playing year.
4.
Must have a current GUI and competition handicap,
5.
Cannot be a junior member i.e. be a full member of the Men's Club
Format for Captains Competitions;
·
Tee times will be allocated by the committee & made by a draw within 4 tee time
slots
·
Both rounds of the Captains prize will be played off the blue tees & format will be
strokes.
·
Both rounds will be added to confirm the winner
·
The top 40 and equals in the Captains prize qualifier will qualify for the final of the
Captains prize.
·
The Captains Prize is played over 2 rounds of golf with no adjustment to a players
handicap (in the Captains Prize only) until the competition is closed.
·
Any member who played in the qualifier and did not qualify for the final of the
Captains prize may play in the Captains plate.
·
Those who qualify for the Captains Prize are not allowed to compete in the Captains
Plate competition.
·
Any full member of the Men's Club may enter the Captains Plate.
·
The plate will be played over 1 round of golf as stipulated by the committee.
·
The plate will be played off the white tees, stableford format the morning of the
Captains Prize
·
Only competitors are allowed on the course during the Captains Qualifier, Captains
Plate and Captains Prize. Caddies are not permitted on the course at any time.
Golfer of the Year
·
1 set of GOY points will be allocated
Practice Area.
As we can all see, the development of the practice area is well under way. This is the last
piece of the jigsaw to be put in place. We already have a fantastic golf course, driving range
and clubhouse. Now we will have a much awaited practice area with a green that is the
same standard as on the course. Just like the course, the practice green has been
constructed to the highest standards and should be complete for use by Spring 2017.
Congratulations to Dan and all his team for their effort in these upgrades.
Notices.


The August Medal will be played on 6th/7th August.

The Captain’s Qualifier will be played on Sunday 21st
August.

The Captains Prize and the Captains Plate will both be played on Saturday 27th
August. The Plate will be played in the morning and the Captains Prize will be played
in the afternoon

A fourball betterball will be played on weekend of 13th/14th
August.
The Friday ROB continues to takes place every Friday evening.
