Latin American contribution to MICRONUTRIEN GENOMICS PROJECT (MGP)
Three actions are in development :
1.
Workshop: Where Nutrigenomics science is going: Some experiences
1.1. Latin American contribution: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia,
México, etc. (What they are doing or intent to do?)
1.2. Experiences: Australia, NuGo, FDA, MGP-MICROGENNET
During International Conference on Nutrigenomics (INCON), September 26-29,
010,Brazil
2.
Fellowships Doctoral Programme (CNPq –TWAS) : www.cnpq.br ; www.twas.org
Consortium between Brazilian and Italian Institutions, especialy for Brazil receive
students to do their PhD and then to return home to continue their careers.
Objective: to promote scientific capaccity and excellence for susteinebol development.
Funding – Italian Government; Administration of Finance and Staff – UNESCO
3.
The Latin American Nutrigenomics Organisation - LANUGO
Planning: The Latin American Vitamin Genomics Project (Research Collaborations)
Participation: mínimum 6 countries
To be funded by CYTED - Latinamerican Science & Technology Development

LATINAMERICAN SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
11
The Ibero-American Development Program for Science and Technology
(CYTED) was created in 1984 through an International Framework Agreement
signed by 19 Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal.
The CYTED Program is an intergovernmental multilateral Science and Technology
cooperation program, which aims to combine different perspectives and visions to
promote cooperation in Research and Innovation for the development of the Latin
America region.
The principal objective of the CYTED Program is to contribute to harmonious and
sustainable development in the Latin America region through cooperation in science,
technology and innovation.
Another function of the CYTED Program is to enable interregional cooperation in
Science and Technology between the European Union and Latin America.
CYTED is similar to Framework Program of the European Union
12
Currently CYTED is funding the Project
Undernutrition in Iberoamerica (2007-2010)
Objective: to establish an epidemiologic diagnostic of the undernutrition
Coordenation: Spain
Participants: 8 LA countries + Spain and Portugal
Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brasil, Costa Rica, Cuba,
Equador Espanha, Mexico, Portugal
The Latin American Vitamin Genomics Project: will be planned based on the
results of this epidemiologic diagnostic.

Latin American contribution to HUMAN VARIOME PROJECT (HVP)
The HVP is an international effort to systematically identify genes, their mutations, and
their variants associated with finotypic variability and indications of human desease.
WORKSHOP: The Human Variome Project (HVP): An international collaboration
to catalogue human genetic variation. Chairs: Richard Cotton and Jim Kaput
INCON (International Conference on Nutrigenomics, next September 26-29, Brazil)
What is the Human Variome Project?
Richard Cotton Coordinator of the HVP, Melbourne, Australia
Genetic Variation and Structure of Brazilian Population related to genetic diseases.
Sérgio Danilo Penna, Federal University of Minas Gerais, MG, Brazil
How can Brazil participate in the Human Variome Project and what is the first step?
Vera Lucia da Silva Lopes, Fac. de Ciências Médicas, Depto. Medical Genetics,
UNICAMP, SP, Brazil
