Scripture Reflection
Today’s responsorial psalm, Psalm 40, is more familiar to us with the refrain “Here
am I, Lord.” This “Here am I” is Jeremiah’s great prophetic response to God’s call.
But today’s story of Jeremiah and the refrain “Lord, come to my aid!” remind us that
there are always two sides to following the call of God. The author of the Letter to
the Hebrews knew this, too. He reminded his readers that even weighted down with
burdens and sins, we can still persevere by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, who himself knew the shame and pain of the cross, but saw beyond it to the joy of sitting at
the right of the throne of God.
Jesus himself gave the disciples a “sneak preview” of a baptism that would not
be as wondrous as the one in the Jordan that inaugurated his ministry, but would be
one of fire and anguish. Today’s words from scripture may not be terribly soothing,
but in their honesty and strength we can acknowledge the difficulties of daily discipleship, and take comfort in the assurance of our own salvation in Christ.

Our Family Prayer
9:00 am William John Hammond 
Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have
appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask
you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.
We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded
on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless
parents that they may form their children in faith.
Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give
consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.
Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human
dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for
us that we may be a holy family. Amen.

Franciscan Sisters of St. Bernadette,
Tanzania Appeal: August 13 & 14
Pickup of Photos: August 12 –14
The congregation is raising funds to establish an education
fund for our orphans. The money obtained from this appeal
will be used for the sole purpose of supporting these unfortunate children who have lost their parents due to war, death of
their mothers during birth and the devastating disease HIV/
AIDS, so that they may go to school in order for them to have a
better future. We are working with serious issues so that we
may help these orphans to improve their life through education
and good loving care which they miss from not having parents.
Sr. Fidelis Gaudiosa will speak at all Masses this weekend.
Parish School of Religion: August 14
The Parish School of Religion will begin classes on August 14th.
Students will report to the school building and parents will
report to the Melancon Center for a parent meeting. We are
still in need of volunteers in the classrooms. Students needing
service hours are also encouraged to sign up to help. Classes
meet on Sunday mornings from 10:00am to 11:00am during the
school year. For more information or to register a new student, contact Michelle Alley, Director of Religious Education
([email protected]).

The photographers will be at St. Catherine in the Melancon
Center on Friday, August 12 from 2pm until 9pm, Saturday,
August 13 and Sunday, August 14, from 10am until 5pm,

Keyless Campus
A few months ago we installed key fobs around campus. The
second phase of this project is rekeying the existing locks. All
locks will be re-keyed in the next week. If you have an old key,
they will no longer work. If you need a new key, please see
the parish office.
Melancon Center Parking Lot
The Feast of the Assumption is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation
this year.
Some trees in the Melancon Center parking lot have been removed because their roots were clogging the drain lines and
preventing the parking lot from draining. Now that the trees
have been removed, the drain lines will be cleaned, allowing
the parking lot to drain properly. New trees that are more
appropriate for the location will be planted once the drainage
has been fixed.
Organ Recital: August 16

SCSWC News
School is opening soon!!! While buying school supplies this
year, please consider picking up an extra notebook, pack of
loose leaf paper, box of pencils or crayons. The Women’s Club
is collecting school supplies for our partner school (Our Lady of
Perpetual Help in Kenner) where there classrooms are often
low on supplies. We are collecting basic supplies of notebooks,
loose leaf paper, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, bottles of
glue or glue sticks, construction paper, etc. Look for boxes in
the back of church to place your supplies in. If you have any
questions, contact Cindy Chaumont at [email protected].
Thank you for your support!

Archdiocesan Natural Family Planning
Classes: August 30—October 25
Passion and Purpose Live: March 10, 2017
With professional instruction, Natural Family Planning has
proven itself to be safe, effective, and a moral way for couples
to plan their families. It is a method which respoects the
meaning of human sexuality as God created it and thus marital
love is enhanced and strengthened.
Come join the class series that Family Life Apostolate is offering in the Sympto-Thermal Method of Natural Family Planning
conducted by Caroline Sholl of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The dates of the class series are August 30, September
13, September 27 and October 25, 2016. The classes will be
held at St. Dominic Parish in New Orleans. Preregistration is
required and the cost is $100.00. For more information and
registration please call the Family Life Apostolate 861-6243.
Annulment Writing Workshop:
September 13—October 11
Purchase tickets today for “Passion & Purpose Live” with renowned speaker and author Matthew Kelly on Friday, March
10, 2017, on the Southshore at St. Dominic, or Sunday, March
12, 2017, on the Northsore at the Northshore Harbor Center!
Living Everyday with Passion & Purpose led by Mattnew Kelly,
invites us all to identify God’s voice in our lives and the specific purpose for which we’ve been created. Matthew inspires
attendees to apply the genius of Catholicism to every aspect of
our lives including prayer and spirituality, work, dating and
marriage, personal finances, health and well being, parenting,
and community involvement. Matthew Kelly, and musician,
Eliot Morris, prepares a unique message inspired by God and
the teachings of the Church that promises to radiate in your
life. Consider this: most people take more time to plan their
annual vacation than they do to discover the voice of God and
His plan for their life. To order tickets for $39, visit http://
DynamicCatholic.com/New Orleans or call The Catholic Foundation at 527-5788.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans will offer a writing workshop
for persons seeking an annulment in the Catholic Church or for
persons responding to an annulment. The workshop will be
held in St. Mary Magdalen School in Metairie. The series will
be for five (5) Tuesdays, September 13, September 20, September 27, October 4 and October 11, 2016. Hours are 7:30
pm—9:00 pm. The materials for the series cost $25. To register or for more information, call Cathy at the family Life Apostolate at 861-6243.
