The 996 GT3 RS was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2003, all being painted in Carrera white with either blue
or red decals and matching coloured alloys.
Various technical features appearing on the racing 996 were introduced on the RS, such as the complete wheel hubs,
the design of parts of both front & rear suspension combined with adapted rear axle geometry to aid grip & stability.
To achieve the best possible power-to-weight ratio but keeping the power unchanged from the GT3 at 381bhp, a
variety of special lightweight components were utilised to save 50kg over the standard GT3; these included a plastic
rear screen, single mass flywheel and extensive use of Carbon Fibre throughout the body panels for the bonnet, rear
spoiler, engine cover and wing mirrors. Unique features in the RS were that peak power was to be delivered at a lower
RPM combined with a super fast close-ration 6 speed gearbox and three vents added to the front bumper to aid
cooling.
Inside the car, the steering wheel is trimmed in Alcantara with red stitching that matches the exterior details; this
colour theme runs to the red seat belts, Carrera white painted centre console and throughout the interior, which is
fashioned much the same as a Club Sport fitted with competition Recaro Race seats upholstered in flame-retardant
cloth, Red six-point harnesses, a Carrera White roll-cage with front and rear sections and an extinguisher system.
