Autocar India http://www.autocarindia.com/auto‐features/the‐2014‐valley‐run‐a‐report‐370687.aspx The 2014 Valley run: A report The second edition of the Valley Run saw 11‐time world champion Rickey Gadson complete the quarter‐ mile in a quick 9.843sec. Jan 27, 2014 The Aamby Valley airstrip once again played host to drag‐racing enthusiasts from different parts of the country. The 2014 Valley Run, held on January 25‐26, witnessed participants astride machines of various cubic capacities attempt to set the best quarter‐mile time. The participants came in all shapes, sizes, paintjobs and modifications, with some motorcycles and cars stripped down to their bare mechanical essentials in the interest of reducing weight. The Valley Run is India’s only drag racing event which takes place on a secluded airstrip. Organized by Elite Octane, the event drew over 300 competitors, who were segregated into different classes according to engine size, make and modifications. They were then allowed one practice run to get their launch right before the final run. Those who had a jumpstart were allowed another run, but at the cost of a penalty fine. Needless to say, all eyes were on the Christmas tree every time a competitor lined up. It’s not every day that one gets to see an assortment of superbikes and supercars tear down an open stretch of road, and spectators had lined up along the barricades from early morning itself. The first day saw the practice and final run of the Indian class motorcycles, while the second day was dedicated to Indian cars, foreign cars and unrestricted class competitors. It was an absolute joy to witness an Audi R8, Nissan GT‐R, Porsche 911 Turbo, Audi S4, Nissan 350Z, Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4 go flat‐out on the air strip. There were also the usual Zens with bigger 1300cc and 1600cc engines, and a few cars equipped with NOS, but it was the Nano and Rolls‐Royce that garnered applause from the crowds. Amir Tarik Gore, driving the Nissan GT‐R, clocked the fastest time of 10.508s in the J unrestricted class. The H4 class (foreign cars from 4001cc street stock) was won by Kaviraj Bhadari with a time of 12.27s in an Audi R8. In the H3 class (foreign cars from 3001cc to 4000cc), Neeraj Sharma took first place with a time of 14.544s in a Porsche Boxster. The top honour in the H2 class (foreign cars from 2001 to 3000cc) went to Naazir Kazi with a time of 14.211 clocked in a BMW Z4. Among the bikes was an electric motor‐powered street prototype from Tork Motorcycles, which conducted a demo run ‐ with a 40bhp DC motor, it completed the run in 17.31 seconds. In the M8 class (motorcycles from 751 to 1000cc 4‐stroke), Abhishek R set a time of 10.389s to claim first place. In second place was Rizwan Khan, who clocked a time of 10.53s on a Yamaha R1. Mohammad Riyaz, riding a Suzuki GSXR 750, completed the run in 11.442s and secured first place in the M7 class (600 to 750cc 4‐ stroke). The M2 category (motorcycles from 251 to 360cc 2‐stroke) saw A Anthony come out tops with a time of 12.843 on the Yamaha RD 350. Iqbal Shaikh completed the quarter‐mile in a scant 13.115s astride a Yamaha RX135 to finish first in the M1 class (100 to 250cc 3‐stroke). But it was 11‐time world drag race champion Rickey Gadson who really got the crowds cheering hard. Many couldn’t control their excitement and jumped over the barricade to get closer to his demo runs. On the first couple of runs, he rode a NOS‐equipped ZX14R. Owing to the dust on the airstrip, the tyres had difficulty in laying down power cleanly. Gadson then switched over to a ZX14R tuned by Mumbai based 7th Gear Customs. He completed the run in a time of 9.843s with a reaction time of 0.068s and an exit speed of 233kph! And that now is the fastest drag racing time on Indian soil. Republic Day couldn't get more exciting than this. Rushlane http://www.rushlane.com/rickey‐gadson‐to‐ride‐kawasaki‐zx14r‐at‐2014‐valley‐run‐shinko‐tyre‐for‐ better‐traction‐12104022.html Rickey Gadson rides Kawasaki ZX14R at 2014 Valley Run, Shinko tyre for better traction In confirming 2014 Valley Run’s start order and scheduling of races across segments, last date for entries this year was on 18th Jan. This year again, Super Car Club’s presence is confirmed, and we’re expecting a few cool donuts from Gautam Singhania behind the starting line. Would be great to see some of the supercars that were part of the Mumbai show and parade a fortnight ago. Aamby Valley’s air strip provides for a great venue yet again for the Quarter Mile Drag Strip to make the event a success. Participants from across India will be here drag racing in varied categories involving Indian Cars and Bikes, and foreign make cars and bikes. It’s going to be 2 whole days of the Christmas tree, and electronic timing and speed sensing systems. The range of participating machines includes stock to extreme modifications like, NOS, Twin Turbos, Big Bore engines etc. Governed by FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Club of India) rules and regulations, The valley Run drag racing is recognized by IM & FIA. Last year’s event was held in March, so the exclusive event is back in 10 months. Last time around, saw the launch of Fast & Furious 6 for the first time in India at the event, and we’re expecting enough adrenaline pumping action today and tomorrow. Rickey Gadson is back for TVR‐2014 and will have the crowds in a roar this time on a new Kawasaki ZX14R. Rickey has plenty of experience on a Kawasaki ZX‐14R with him setting a 9.31 second run on Las Vegas Motor Speedway back in 2011. Last year, ten time World Drag Racing Champion – Rickey Gadson offered tips and advice to participants, and did a number of exhibition runs on a Kawasaki ZZR1400 Monster Energy. His quickest quarter mile time in India last year was 10.088 seconds, which is a lot slower than his personal best of 7.2 seconds, which was also clocked on a Kawasaki. This he attributed to traction because of the difference of airstrip preparation here. Well, this year he’s arrived fully prepared to give him a better chance to get max traction from the Aamby Valley Strip. His Facebook update today read, “About to board a flight to India to do the damn thing! I decided not to take a chance and hopefully brought my own traction compound!” “Just arrived here in India with the Shinko Hookup and you would have thought I brought drugs into the country as much as security was harassing me for receipts and the reason for bringing it here. As a last resort I showed them my poster and things got better quickly!” Last year also saw the MTT Y2K’s first run on the a Drag Strip in India after it was showcased at the 2013 India Bike Week in Goa. The event this year has also organised overnight camps at the venue, which is a big plus as compared to last year. Do take a look at the event schedule so as to not miss your favourite races. Zigwheels http://www.zigwheels.com/news‐features/news/2014‐valley‐run‐the‐valley‐of‐speed/17752/ 2014 Valley Run: The valley of speed The second edition of the Valley Run drag race witnessed a high dose of action to the delight of both competitors and spectators alike Thousands of petrolheads gathered over the weekend on the runway of the Amby Valley airstrip in Lonavala, for the second edition of the Valley Run drag racing event organised by Elite Octane. If you think drag racing is only about two machines lined up at the start line with participants whacking the throttle open to be the first to cross the finish line 400m into the horizon, then you couldn’t be more wrong. Drag racing demands lot of skill, especially to get the perfect drag start and one needs lightning quick reflexes to go along with it. Also, gear shifts need to be precise and intelligently chosen in a way that that you don’t over‐rev or under‐rev the engine. Last but not least, you need patience, hard work and money to setup your machine with such perfection that it has the potential to rule the drag strip. Though there are race tracks in the Northern and Southern part of the country, sadly there aren’t any in the Western region of the country, which means speed junkies in this part of the country don’t have a platform to test the potential of themselves and their machines. And this is where a drag race, comes into picture as what you really need is a 400m arrow straight road with ample run‐off area. The beauty of a drag racing is in its simplicity as an enthusiast with a RX 100 or an exclusive Nissan GTR can be part of the event as the race is divided into different categories in accordance with engine displacement. The competitors weren’t restricted to only Mumbai and Pune as around 400 competitors from across the country travelled to the venue with their prized possessions. Although, all eyes were on the run of the supercars and superbikes that doesn’t mean the Indian class was any less exciting. The Indian class of cars and bikes was fiercely contested with the winning gap being just tenths of a second. Even though they couldn’t match the 11 to 12 seconds timing that foreign category of cars and bikes were clocking, their timings of around 15 seconds is hugely commendable and showcase the skill of local tuners and the men piloting them. The star of the show was Ricky Gadson, the 10 time World Drag Racing Champion who did a few demo runs posted few blistering fast times showcasing his mettle and his fastest time was an astounding 9.843 seconds. Gadson was also gracious enough to spend time with budding riders and gave them priceless tips to improve their performances. In cars, the highlight was without a shadow of doubt the Nissan GTR as it launched off the line with utmost ferocity to clock a timing of 10.508 seconds. There was no dearth of eye candy both on four and two‐wheels as the parking area was filled with supercars like the Ferrari 458 Italia, Porsche 911 Turbo, Audi R8 and superbikes like the BMW S1000RR, Kawasaki ZX‐10R, Yamaha R1 and many more. A special mention has to me made about the track itself as it has all the basic amenities to make it a drag racers paradise and one has to applaud the efforts of the organisers, especially Rongom Mukerji, who took special care to keep the track less dusty than last year. As the day came to an end all the participants were tired after a gruelling day of racing, some won, while some lost but one common aspect among all the competitors was the joy on their faces, as they had got their dose of adrenaline till the next edition of the Valley Run. Motoroids http://www.motoroids.com/news/valley‐run‐2014‐post‐event‐report‐results‐image‐gallery/ Valley Run 2014: Post Event Report, Results and Image Gallery The second edition of the Valley Run – the only drag race in the country at the Amby Valley strip in Lonavala was organized by Elite Octane on 25th and 26th of January 2014. In its second edition this year, the event saw participation of 400 drag enthusiasts. Participating machines included some of the finest race tuned Indian cars and bikes, supercars and superbikes competing to clock the fastest quarter mile. In addition to the main event, keeping the crowds entertained and offering spectators some variety was a Supercross event, which included a championship for under 14 racers & the pro seniors. A brand new professional drag racing timing system was also provided; the same system is used by all professional drag strips across the globe. The much anticipated event had participants travel from Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Gujarat showcasing their vehicles and tuning skills. The two day event featured cars like Lamborginis, Audi R8s, Ferrari and bikes like Ducatis and BMW HP4samong others. Putting up an exhibition run on the new Kawasaki ZX14R was 11 time World Drag Race Champion Rickey Gadson. Speaking on the occasion Rickey Gadson said “This is my second trip to India and I’m blown away by the excitement shown by the participants. I’m amazed how racers have managed to tune the small capacity vehicles to deliver good outputs; these things are pocket rockets. I came for the Valley Run in 2013 and saw a huge turnout for the run and this year the number has multiplied and it is just amazing to see so much passion for drag racing here. I have utmost respect for all the racers & appreciate Elite Octane Inc’s initiative to take this concept to the highest level.” Mr. Vivek Kumar, CEO AAamby Valley City and Hotel Sahara Star: “We are extremely pleased to host The Valley Run 2013 at Aamby Valley City. Drivesspark http://www.drivespark.com/two‐wheelers/2014/valley‐run‐with‐rickey‐gadson‐006230.html Valley Run With Rickey Gadson; 2014 Edition Elite Octane has organized the second edition Valley Run. The official drag race in India at Amby Valley air strip, Lonavala. 2014 witnessed 400 drag racing enthusiasts along with the finest race prepped Indian cars and bikes, supercars and superbikes all in an attempt to finish the quarter mile fastest. A new professional drag race timing system was introduced. This system is used all around the globe by professional drag event organisers. The new Kawasaki ZX14R was ridden by 11 time World Drag Race Champion Rickey Gadson. "This is my second trip to India and I'm blown away by the excitement shown by the participants. I'm amazed how racers have managed to tune the small capacity vehicles to deliver good outputs; these things are pocket rockets," exclaimed Rickey. He further added, "I came for the Valley Run in 2013 and saw a huge turnout for the run and this year the number has multiplied and it is just amazing to see so much passion for drag racing here. I have utmost respect for all the racers & appreciate Elite Octane Inc's initiative to take this concept to the highest level." Drag racing is a competition, where highly tuned cars and bikes compete against each other. The goal is to be first across the quarter mile. In India drag racing is still in an infant stage, however the need for speed among petrol heads, helps growth in the sport. Tuning vehicles to enhance performance, is common in drag races. Showcasing the tuners ability and skills. We asked Rickey Gadson a few tips to help aspiring Drag Racers in India. Motorbeam http://www.motorbeam.com/general/valley‐run‐2014‐report‐pictures/ Valley Run Is Quarter Mile At A Time In India the enthusiasm for any sport except cricket is way behind. However we can find people in all sports making their way to international grounds and it does include motorsport as well. The Valley Run 2014, India’s only official drag race was a treat for every motorsport enthusiast who visited, more so for those who participated. One could find all kind of superbikes, supercars, modded bikes and cars clocking up the quickest time on the quarter mile of the beautiful Amby Valley airstrip. Also to reach the Valley Run, it was a pleasure enjoying the corners via Lions Point in Lonavala. The world drag racing champion clocked the quickest time of 9.843 seconds for the quarter mile on the 2014 Kawasaki ZZR1400 (ZX‐14R) in an all stock condition, no mods, no tuning, nothing just a change of slip‐on pipes. The anxious feeling of the christmas tree going yellow‐yellow‐GREEN, and one cold enjoy the 9‐12 seconds of the mean machines going flat out for the quickest time. The spectators, VVIPs, sponsors, all the people present at the Valley Run did not dare to miss even a single drag race, not even the practice runs. The moment after the quickest run was completed, Rickey Gadson popped a quarter mile wheelie and all the fans were in that “OH DAMN!” moment. Ricky has his racing school in his hometown, and owns eigth Ninja ZZR1400s and teaches people to drag race on his bikes. His best clock time for the quarter mile is 7.70 seconds on his turbocharged ZZR1400. He had NOS put on to the monster bike here in India and came with a motive of doing a 9.7 seconds drag, here there is an increase in time by 2 seconds due the atmosphere, track, traction, all that stuff matters! The Valley Run with Kawasaki and Monster Energy was like a cherry on a delicious vanilla cake. The cars pass by, the bikes roar around and with the support from tuners, Valley Run 2014 became much more enjoyable. Kawasaki had sponsored the event and displayed its recently launched bikes, the Ninja 1000, Z1000 and Z800. This is an event worth going at least once, as it will pump all your adrenaline and make you gloat in excitement. Everything Experiential http://everythingexperiential.com/aamby‐valley‐presents‐the‐valley‐run‐to‐burn‐some‐serious‐rubber/ Elite Octane And Aamby Valley Present ‘The Valley Run’ The Valley Run 2014, India’s first drag race competition, now on its second edition is the brain child of Elite Octane Inc. Imagine seeing a bright orange Nissan GT‐R lined up next to a Porsche 911 Turbo all ready to let loose the moment the lights on Christmas tree go off. It’s a battle every car enthusiast would give an arm and a leg for. And that is just what you would expect out of The Valley Run ’14, to be held on the 25th and 26th of January, 2014 at the Aamby Valley Airstrip, Ambavne. This event is run in accordance with the International Sporting Code of the FIA (and its appendices) and the NCR of FMSCI – the ASN of the FIA in India, and their supplementary regulations. So what are these drags about? If you think it’s just about two machines lining up at the start line and going all guns blazing till the finish line, you couldn’t be any more wrong. What it takes to get to that finish line in the quickest way possible is lightening quick reflexes when the lights go off, some extremely precise gearshifts and last but not the least, a decent amount of horsepower to carry you through. Mr. Vivek Kumar, CEO Aamby Valley City and Hotel Sahara Star said “We are extremely pleased to host The Valley Run 2013 at Aamby Valley City. The international level drag race will be a spectacular event for all auto lovers and will see superbikes and supercars competing to give viewers the ultimate adrenaline rush. The drag race is one of the many unique offerings at Aamby Valley City and we strive to constantly provide such international experiences to our guests.” So how does a drag race interest a real estate company? Well, the answer is simple – when you have the wheels, they need good grounds to burn the rubber – and that’s what Aamby Valley provides to the Elitle Octane Team. “With an endless strip of well laid tarmac, more than adequate parking space, the location simply couldn’t have been better. The Aamby Valley airstrip at Lonavla is pretty much any draggers delight. The only problem last year was that it took quite a bit of travelling especially from Mumbai and other farther places. However, such is the draw of Drag Racing that the Valley Run saw as many as 70 enthusiasts from Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad travelling all the way to be a part of it.” Says Mr. Vivek Kumar. On speaking to Ayushman Jairath, Manager Elite Octane, “The biggest challenge that we came across this time was to choose the location of the event. We were contemplating whether the event should take place in Mumbai or not because of the construction that was taking place in the Aamby Valley site – but due to the tremendous success of The Velley Run 2013, the AVC spostponed their construction and granted us permission to execute our event at their site.” TVR ‘13 witnessed some of the finest automobiles in the country pitted against each other to clock the fastest time on a quarter mile. The event saw more than 200 participants – super bikes, supercars as well as race tuned Indian cars and bikes. Taking the event to an international level was ten time world drag race champion Rickey Gadson who came down from the USA to attend the event. The Y2K Turbine Superbike, the world’s most powerful motorcycle, was also present at the venue. So what surprises are lined up this year? “So once again what we have in our hands is one adrenaline pumping weekend planned out – with many more aspects included this time, for example Affordable Accommodation: Tents for participants in their camping area, Dirt Track Exhibition Run, Drift – Exhibition Run, brand new professional drag racing timing system, Super Car Club’s official participation & display and an Entertainment & Display Arena.” says Jairath. Technical difficulties faced for an event that has never happened before? “Last year conditions were dusty and there was quite a gust of wind which didn’t affect the cars as much but with the superbikes cracking the whip at over 200 km/h it was getting quite hairy by the end of their runs. That has been taken into account. We have some awesome sub 10sec beasts coming this time, won’t want them battling these odds.” finishes Jairath. Zeegnition http://www.zeegnition.com/news/cars/valley‐speed Valley of Speed! The second edition of the Valley Run 2014 saw an increase in participants and a decrease in quarter mile times and not to mention a lot of impressive machinery. Aamby Valley in Lonavla is ususally a place with a lot of serenity, beauty and peaceful silence, but 25th‐ 26th of January saw this very silence being disrupted by some of the most awesome sounds, made by some of the best machines that exist on planet earth. The occasion was the 2nd edition of the Valley run where likeminded people come together to talk, walk and boast about just one thing...a lot of Horsepower. Now there have been quite a few drag events in Mumbai and down south as well and what has been noticed is that there is quite a fan following for the sport. With international tuners coming down to tune our humble sedans and hatchback thereby turning them into speed demons. Bikes of all kinds right from the humble Yamaha RX100 right to the likes of the Suzuki Hayabusa lining up to get their share of the quarter mile rush. This year the event saw participation of 400 drag enthusiasts along with the presence of some of the finest race tuned Indian cars and bikes, supercars and superbikes competing to clock the fastest quarter mile. Keeping the crowds entertained and offering spectators some variety was a Supercross event, which included a championship for under 14 racers & the pro seniors. A brand new professional drag racing timing system was also provided; the same system is used by all professional drag strips across the globe. I have utmost respect for all the racers & appreciate Elite Octane Inc’s initiative to take this concept to the highest level.” The much anticipated event had participants travel from Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Gujarat showcasing their vehicles and tuning skills. The two day was every automobile lover’s dream with cars like Lamborginis, Audi R8s, Ferrari and bikes like Ducatis, BMW HP4s lined up to prove whose the fastest. From history in the making to the future of the sport, Drag racing is clearly here to stay. The event witnessed an assortment of cars and bikes trying to traverse a quarter of a mile of the Amby valley airstrip in fastest time. The Valley Run 2014 attracted about 400 participants who were classified into different categories based on the displacements and level of modifications of their machinery. Apart from the participants, the 11 time world drag racing champion Ricky Gadson entertained the crowd with his scintillating drag and wheelie runs. His steeds were two Kawasaki ZX14R’s, one in stock condition and the other prepped for the purpose by 7th Gear Customs. Despite traction issues due to dirt on the track, Ricky finally set a blazing quarter mile time of 9.84 seconds! And the racers received invaluable tips and insights from the multiple world champion himself. The participants poured in from across the country with their variety of dragsters. On the first day, the modified small displacement two stroke motorcycles that eschewed any component that doesn’t make them go faster, amazed the audience with their ability to accelerate. Day 2 was all about Indian cars, imports and big bike categories, all of which saw participation from both stock and modified vehicles. Nissan GT‐R, Audi R8, S4, Porsche 911, Boxter, BMW Z4, M5, Bentley Continental GT, Rolls Royce Ghost, you name it and The Valley Run 2014 had it! The usual beefed up Zens and Honda City’s were also in attendance. And then there was the 500 bhp+ racer that adopted a Peugeot 309′s shell and a rear mounted turbocharged Honda Accord V6 engine. With a time of 12.04 seconds, the odd looking automobile smoked the competition! The foreign bikes category (divided into different displacements classes) was no less interesting with its own share of mental superbikes and cruisers. Yamaha R1, FZ‐1, R6, Vmax, Honda CBR1000R, 650R, BMW S1000RR HP4, Kawasaki ZX1000R, Suzuki Intruder, GSX‐R1000, GSX‐R 750, Ducati Diavel are a few of the plethora of big boys who were present.
