Gasoline Engine Oils
Founded in 1839,
Schaeffer Manufacturing
Company provided greases
and oils for wagon trains
and steamboats. As times
and technology changed,
Schaeffer developed many
of the current concepts in
lubrication, including
advanced additives for
performance, friction
modifiers for fuel economy
and synthetics for
extended lubricant life.

In addition to formulating
our state-of-the-art
products, we continually
develop strategies to
maximize our customers’
satisfaction. Our Bottom
Line Cost Reduction
Program focuses on
reducing total maintenance
costs. It’s not the “cost to
buy, it’s the cost to use”
that matters. Results from
this program can reduce
lubricant costs significantly.

Million-Mile Gasoline Engine
Security Transport Services (STS) • Topeka, KS
When a 2003 F150 van in STS’ fleet was within 11 miles of a million
miles without a major overhaul, Maintenance Director John Pickett
and President Tom Braumann knew it was a big deal. Impressively,
the high mileage workhorse never required repairs beyond normal
maintenance work. The van was serviced exclusively with Schaeffer’s
Supreme 7000™ Synthetic Plus with 8,000 mile drain intervals.
Schaeffer teamed up with Ranken Technical Institute to teardown
the engine, and the experts were shocked at what they saw – a
clean engine with minimal wear. Watch the million-mile gasoline
engine teardown at www.schaefferoil.com/million.

Diesel Engine Oils
Schaeffer’s diesel engine oils protect engines from soot and are designed to extend oil drain capability
and intervals. They’re formulated for heavy-duty engines operating on both less than 500 ppm and ultra
low sulfur diesel fuel. Our diesel engine oils are particularly suitable for use in 2007 and newer, emission
compliant engines utilizing heavy EGR and exhaust after-treatment devices such as: diesel particulate filters
(DPFs), diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). They’re versatile for use in
older, non-EGR and off-highway diesel engines.
TWO EXTREMES, ONE OIL. Schaeffer’s Supreme 9000™
provides faster cold cranking and engine startability, as well as
increased high temperature, high-shear protection.

Case Study: Million-Mile Diesel Engine
Butch Maciewski of Wayne Transport • Rosemount, MN
In 1993, Butch was issued a new 9200 International powered with a Cummins L10 330 hp engine.
At 284,000 miles, he purchased the truck and converted it to Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants –
including Supreme 7000™ Synthetic Plus SAE 15W-40.
In addition to its +1,000,000 road miles with the engine running 1900 RPMs at a speed of 70 MPH,
this tractor has many stationary engine hours of pumping product at bulk plants in cold Midwestern
states. In a discussion about the truck’s future, a Cummins NPower overhaul supervisor was surprised
Butch was still running an engine that was 700,000 mile rated. The only updates to his engine were
new rods and mains due to scoring from a head gasket coolant leak at 500,000 miles.

Natural Gas Oils
Stationary and vehicular engines running on alternative fuels require engine oil specifically formulated to
handle the technical challenges presented by these engines and the fuels they burn.
Schaeffer’s natural gas engine oils are blended from the finest, severely hydrotreated, polyalphaolefin
(PAO), synthetic base fluids and high viscosity index, solvent refined, severely hydrofinished, 100% paraffin
base stocks available.
#114S Synthetic Plus Natural Gas Engine Oil SAE 30 & 40
Superior, low ash, parasynthetic natural gas engine oil specially formulated for use in stationary 2-cycle and
4-cycle stoichiometric and lean burning natural gas engines.
#114LF Synthetic Plus Sour Gas Engine Oil SAE 30 & 40
Superior, medium ash, parasynthetic natural gas engine oil specially formulated for use in medium to high
speed, stationary four-cycle gas engines running on landfill gas or sour gas.
#114CNG Synthetic Plus CNG Engine Oil SAE 15W-40
Superior, low ash, catalyst compatible, parasynthetic engine oil formulated for use in compressed natural
gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered vehicles. It’s also used in
vehicular natural gas engines that have slider-follower valve trains.

Using Taylor Dynamometers, our heavy-duty
diesel engine oils were tested over a twoyear period at several Caterpillar dealers.
Researchers isolated and eliminated variables
common in fleet fuel studies; the tests
simulated stop-and-go driving with heavily
loaded engines. Independent trucking
companies volunteered to participate
in the study. Additionally, the tests
were conducted in a number of states
and staggered throughout the year to
eliminate climate as a variable.
The results of the extensive dyno
testing were consistent and provide
solid evidence of the benefits of
Schaeffer’s engine oils.
Comprehensive dynamometer studies revealed
an average fuel savings of 6.4%!
TRC Test Track
Located on approximately 4,500 acres of land in
East Liberty, Ohio, the Transportation Research Center
(TRC) provides comprehensive research, development
and testing services and facilities to manufacturers,
industry organizations and government agencies
worldwide. TRC is widely considered the leader in the
field of fuel economy testing. Whether evaluating the
benefit of fuel-efficient devices, comparing vehicle
components or comparing competitive vehicles,
TRC provides services to assure test accuracy
and repeatability.
Tests conducted at TRC’s test track simulate over-the-road, long haul operations.
The particular study conducted for Schaeffer was administered under SAE J1321
Type 2. This EPA SmartWay-approved testing protocol requires numerous test
cycles and repeatable performance over several days of testing.
Schaeffer’s test utilized two identical, fully loaded Class 8 trucks driven around
TRC’s 7.5-mile oval track. Schaeffer’s technology delivered measurable results
with a 1.9% improvement in fuel economy over a leading major brand competitor.
