The Nauticats, accompanied by Polly Jones at the piano, led the audience with the singing of God Bless America. Then as Toni announced the Salty Sisters who have passed away this past year, Beth Pennington rang the bell for the following deceased Salties: 10/16/14 T. J. Redderson ’91 11/16/14 Frances Ray-Cobb ’96 12/22/14 Mary Christian ’90 12/31/14 Jan Shreve ’68 + Lifetime 01/10/15 Jane Harper ’99 09/27/15 Jeannine Green ‘76/98+ CAPTAIN CAROL HANSEN Carol announced the “Polls closed” and welcomed everyone to the 64th Annual Meeting. Connie Beckman, our parliamentarian, presided over the meeting. Carol asked all the Past Captains to stand and be recognized. A plaque honoring the Past Captains will be hung in the hallway. GUEST SPEAKERS: Commodore Harvey Ford updated us on additions and changes at SPYC. He encouraged all of us to vote in the upcoming elections at the General Meeting on October 13th. The Salty Sisters were recognized for their contributions to the SPYC. He said the Salty Sisters were a model of what a good club should be like. Shawn Macking, Waterfront Director, expressed his thanks to the Salty Sisters for their help with race committee for club regattas and their active involvement in the Sailing Center. Jen French then presented a great slide show on the Warrior Sailing Program that was held last spring at the SPSC. The Salty Sisters involvement in providing meals and support with the service dogs is greatly appreciated. The next Warrior Sailing event will be November 5th through the 7th at SPSC. Volunteers are needed. There was a sign-up sheet at the back table. 2015 ELECTION: The chair of the Nominating Committee, Vicki Posner, introduced her committee members: Betty Proper, Gina Bowden-Pierce, Linda Testa, and Martha Metcalf. ORAL OFFICER REPORTS: AWARDS: Maureen Twombly Maureen reported awarding 186 Salty Sister Charms, 41 FWSA Interclub Charms, 37 100% Participation Series Charms, 10 100% Race Committee and Safety Ashore Charms, 20 Series and Titled Races Charms, and 82 Annual Meeting Charms. ORAL STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS: MEMBERSHIP: Trisha Birkenstock and Nancy Shivers Trisha Birkenstock announced that there are 194 active members and she acknowledged the following pin awards: 50 Year Pin There was one 50 year pin awarded to Barbara Mack Watters. HISTORIAN: Carol Crawford Carol Crawford presented Captain Carol Hansen with a pictorial Salty Sister History Book of her year at the helm. SAFETY ASHORE: Connie Beckman Connie thanked all the volunteers who helped with Safety Ashore responsibilities. ARCHIVIST: Barbara Watson Barbara told us that she has the Salty Sister historical data computerized and available for us, so just notify her if you have a need for historical information. Selga Sakss would have had one more year of service, but due to the fact that she is Co-Captain the Board voted unanimously for Barbara Arnold to fill the position. Carol presented the new Captain, Shirley Rigo, with the Captain’s pin and gavel. Captain Shirley Rigo then presented the CoCaptain’s pin to the new Co-Captain, Selga Sakss. Carol then turned the meeting over to the new Captain, Shirley Rigo. Those running are: Salty Sister Barbara Weller, Beth Pennington's husband George Pennington. Voting will take place Tuesday, October 13th, 2015 from 11:30 A.M.- 7:30 P.M. in the Quarterdeck Room. The Annual Meeting will be held In the Ballroom at 7:45 PM. Remember, in order for your ballot to be considered you must vote for 4 Active Members and 1 Intermediate. CO-CAPTAIN'S REPORT: Selga Sakss Co-Captain Selga made sailing schedule announcements, pointing out where the sailing sign-up sheets are. CRUISE: Charl Hadfield Charl is away. Committee member Connie DuBois reported that a Cruise Event in downtown Tampa is scheduled for Thursday, Nov 5.
