Britain is GREAT Campaign
60th Anniversary of Coronation
HM Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 following the
death of her father King George VI. However following royal tradition to allow for an
appropriate period of mourning, her Coronations did not take place until 2nd June
1953.
Her Majesty is now the world’s second longest reigning monarch having
reigned for 61 years second only to King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand who has
reigned for 67 years. She has spent her reign devoted to service and country.
On 4th June 2013, Queen Elizabeth II marked the 60th anniversary of her
Coronation with a ceremony at Westminster Abbey attended by some 2,000 people,
including nearly two-dozen members of her immediate family. The Queen arrived at
the abbey in the Coronation Carriage, the same one she rode in 60 years ago.
Coronation Festival

being held in Buckingham Palace's garden to
celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Coronation . The

which have been used by the Queen, the Duke of
Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales.

Festival will celebrate innovation, excellence and
industry through trade and craft.

technology and experience the very best of British
style, pursuits and pastimes.

from this event
Proud Partners
5th Century of Thai-British Relations
This year marks the start of the 5th century of Thai-British relations.
On 15 August 1612, the Globe, a British East India Company merchantman arrived
in the port of Bangkok bearing a letter from King James I which was delivered to
King Songtham in Ayuthaya . As a result of which the East India Company was
presented with a piece of land to build a warehouse.
This was the start of four centuries of friendship and cooperation which forged
strong links between Thailand and Britain. In particular a shared respect for
monarchy has always made the two countries close with several Thai kings and
Princes spending their schooling days in Britain.
Modern day relations are characterized by growing bilateral trade and
investment. And of course last but not least a shared passion for football!
Great Campaign
The Great campaign is supported by the Foreign & Commonwealth
Office, UK Trade & Investment, Visit Britain and the British Council. The
campaign started with the London Olympics 2012 and will run for 3 years

Any surplus sponsorship funds raised for the
Fair will be donated to the British Community in
Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN)
Contributions to Thai charities by members of the British Community in
Thailand reach back to the war years. In 1968 the United Kingdom Committee
for Thai Charities was formed to organise and run the Ploenchit Fair and
disburse the funds raised there. throughout the subsequent year. Committee
members personally visit the charities, ensure the smooth running of the
projects and the application of funds. Over the years the UKCTC - from 1999,
BCTFN - has given direct help to groups in need through the provision of
various basic necessities and equipment to improve health care, nutrition,
education, agricultural projects, the disabled and self-help schemes throughout
Thailand. The list of recipients of donations is long and includes charitable
funds, foundations, institutions, hospitals, schools and many other needy
groups. For more information please visit: http://www.bctfn.com
