Dear Alumnae, Parents and Friends,
Beaumont School educates women for life, leadership and service. It
is through leadership and service that our alumnae nurture positive
changes in the lives of countless individuals in so many ways.
However, leadership has many different faces. It can be assertive or
quiet, it can be public or private. No matter its form, it has the same
essential qualities.
Leaders are confident, good communicators, work with honesty and
a respect for others. They are passionate about their work and they
care about what they do. They are risk-takers with the confidence to
trust others and to trust themselves.
From our earliest beginnings following in the example of St. Angela,
we have offered students an environment that cultivates these
qualities of leadership. Our students have a safe place where their
confidence can build and their voices can be heard. They are given
opportunities to expand their horizons academically, athletically and
socially so that they can be risk-takers. No matter what generation
you are from, Beaumont women are not afraid to be leaders because
leadership is part of our legacy.
In this issue of the Beaumont News, we are profiling a few alumnae
whose career paths reflect the qualities of our mission and the
foundation of their Beaumont experiences. No matter their
professions, these women embody leadership and service to others—
qualities that we continue to cultivate with the young women who
are part of our school today. Thank you to all of our alumnae who
continue to live the Beaumont mission in your everyday lives to affect
change and to build strong communities. You too are living the vision
of St. Angela.

FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP
STUDENT NEWS
Beaumont student athletes Reilly Girardot ‘16 and Megan Yopko ’16
participated in National Signing Day on November 11, signing letters
of intent to play NCAA sports in college next year. Reilly will play
soccer at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, and Megan will
play volleyball at Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee.

THREE STUDENTS RECOGNIZED BY
NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
CORPORATION
Three members of Beaumont School’s class of 2016 were
recognized for their academic success by the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Anna Zipp has been named a
National Merit Semifinalist, and Alena Prcela and Josie Zucca
have been named Commended Students. Altogether the
extracurricular involvement of these three students encompasses
membership in five varsity sports teams, 11 clubs and honor
societies, including Student Council, Academic Scholars, and the
National Honor Society.
Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition
for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
Although Commended Students do not qualify for National Merit
Scholarship awards, these academically promising students
placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million
students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014
Preliminary SAT.

Each of Beaumont’s fall athletic teams competed in successful
seasons, with four sports advancing to postseason playoffs.
• Our varsity volleyball team finished the season as district
champions, winning against Revere High School in five sets.
• Ashley Rulison ‘19 brought home an individual district title
for the Blue Streaks, later finishing third in the region and tenth in
the state.
• Varsity soccer’s season record was 6-5-4. The team earned the
number two seed in their district.
• Erin Adams ‘19 competed well at sectionals, qualifying for the
number two individual spot in districts. She finished second team in
the NEO Conference.
STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN TEEN TECH TANK
This fall, two Beaumont students participated in Teen Tech Tank, presented by the Young Entrepreneur Institute. This local
organization geared toward providing entrepreneurial opportunities for high schoolers presented this Shark Tank-style
competition that involved creating 30-second pitches for a new business idea. Jeannea Cobb ‘16 and Laura O’Meara ‘16
were among the 60 finalists in the competition and were recognized for their hard work at Enspire, a conference for local
entrepreneurial educators.

BEAUMONT ROBOTICS
TEAM FEATURED ON
WVIZ
In October, Beaumont’s robotics team was
invited to participate in a WVIZ program that
focused on connecting STEM, robotics and
advanced manufacturing. Four Beaumont
students – Nora Duncan ’19, Allie Noe ’16,
Margaret Schiffer ’17 and Holly Sirk ’16
– spoke on air along with faculty moderators
Gretchen Santo and Yvonne Schiffer about
their experiences with the robotics team and
demonstrated the functionality of the robot
on air.
Allie, Margaret and Holly have been a part
of Beaumont’s robotics team for three years
with Nora joining them this year. Last May,
one of Beaumont’s teams placed fourth
overall in the National Robotics League
Competition.

ENTREPRENEURIAL
VENTURES
Throughout the year, Beaumont
entrepreneurs have the opportunity to sell
their creations at a variety of markets. This
semester, students were able to vend at
several iterations of the Young Entrepreneur
Market, hosted at the North Union Farmers
Market at Shaker Square on Saturday
mornings. Beaumont entrepreneurs Carolyn
Dreyer ‘16, Morgan Jochum ‘17 and Nada
Rowane ‘17 also attended the student
market at the Enspire conference at
University School in November.

A group of Beaumont students attended the
Youth Business Forum, presented by the
Veale Foundation, at Quicken Loans Arena in
September. During this annual event,
students listen to tips from local
entrepreneurs about building a business and
compete in teams to create the best business
pitch. Jeannea Cobb ‘16 was a member of
the second place team, which received
follow-up coaching from local small
businesses.

RESPECT LIFE DAY
Beaumont students and Campus Ministry staff participated in the
annual October Respect Life Day in downtown Cleveland, organized
by Catholic Schools for Peace & Justice. The event began with Bishop
Lennon celebrating Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
Participants then processed through the streets and continued with a
peaceful rally at the Free Stamp. Students shared individual reflections
about various life issues that have affected them. Beaumont is
honored to be a part of this prayerful and public witness to promote
our commitment to respect life.

ENGINEERING
ACTIVITIES
Beaumont’s engineering offerings
continue to expand with the advent of
new technology. A donor provided us
with the opportunity to purchase a
MakerBot 3D printer this year. It has
been used by our pre-engineering
students to create items for use both in
and out of the classroom. Students have
created holiday figures in AutoCAD and
items for Beaumont’s Sip and Shop. For
Beaumont’s All-School Service Day,
pre-engineering students were able to
print mechanical parts for toys, which
were then utilized by RePlay for Kids, an
organization that refits toys to be used
by children with disabilities. The 3D
printer utilizes plastic to print an item
layer by layer. Beaumont’s new STEM
classrooms and the associated
technology have allowed our
engineering students to learn and use
the most advanced equipment and be
better prepared for their college
experience.

A PILGRIMAGE TO PHILADELPHIA
CHRISTMAS ON CAMPUS
A group of Beaumont students, teachers and parents traveled to Philadelphia in September
to witness Pope Francis’ visit to the United States. This pilgrimage strengthened the faith
and friendship of these members of our Beaumont community through a shared faith
experience. These participants were able to see Pope Francis during a blessing and during
the Papal Mass delivered in Philadelphia.
Beaumont hosted our 15th annual
Christmas on Campus event this past
December. This tradition invites more than
100 students from St. Leo and Urban
Community Schools to Beaumont for an
afternoon of festive holiday fun. Each
grade school student was matched with a
Beaumont buddy who accompanied the
child throughout the school building to
play games, make crafts, decorate cookies
and meet Santa Claus. Each activity was
sponsored by a Beaumont club, and
Christmas on Campus was organized by
Student Council. We loved having the
chance to spread Christmas cheer to the
greater community through this event - it
will be a tradition for years to come!
“One of Pope Francis’ missions throughout this trip was to deepen relationship in families.
Beaumont is a family, and friendships in this faith-based experience grew in such a strong
way,” said Bridget Danko ‘18. “An experience was provided by Beaumont that changed
so many of our lives in such a unique but beautiful way. It showed us that Christ will never
abandon us and that He has such a beautiful future for each one of us.”

ALL SCHOOL SERVICE DAY
Beaumont School students and
faculty participated in a full day
of service during the fifth annual
All School Service Day on
Wednesday, September 23. This
yearly event offers an opportunity
for Beaumont to demonstrate the
school’s mission of life, leadership
and service to the Greater
Cleveland community.
Students and faculty spent time
working at 21 locations including
local schools, nursing facilities,
nonprofits and parks. Service is
an integral aspect of a student’s
Beaumont experience. All

students are required to complete
80 hours of service before
graduation, volunteering her time to the greater community. Many students go above and
beyond this requirement, with the class of 2015 providing 10,525 hours of service during
their four years at Beaumont, nearly doubling their mandatory amount.

PARTNERSHIP WITH ONE SEED HERITAGE TO OFFER FAIR TRADE UNIFORM SKIRTS
In alignment with our mission of educating women for life,
leadership and service, Beaumont School has partnered with One
Seed Heritage to offer uniform skirts to our students that are
made by fair trade workers and ethically sourced.
SCHOOL NEWS
Beginning during the 2015-2016 school year, Beaumont students
have the option to purchase uniform skirts that were handmade
by women of the Mayan community of San Juan La Laguna in
Guatemala. These women are paid fairly and create the skirts
with organic cotton grown on family farms and with dye created
with plants. Five percent of purchases will fund scholarships for
Guatemalan children, whose literacy and school enrollment rates
are some of the lowest in the world.
A partnership with One Seed Heritage enforces the Beaumont’s
mission through educating students about the importance of
creating social and economic mobility within communities of
need, inspiring human empowerment, and creating sustainable,
quality, organic products. This fall, Beaumont’s Fashion Club
worked with One Seed’s Guatemalan sewers to manufacture
one-of-a-kind scarves with designs created by Beaumont
students. We are excited to continue our partnership as the
school year continues.

With science classrooms relocated to the new STEM addition, the former science
wing was renovated over the summer to become an English wing. This new space
unifies all English classrooms to a centralized area, and also allowed for the
creation of a writing lab and a multipurpose room that can seat up to 60 people.

WITH THE THOMAS
EDISON AWARD FOR
EXCELLENCE IN STEM
EDUCATION AND
STUDENT RESEARCH
Beaumont was awarded the Thomas Edison
Award for Excellence in STEM Education, an
honor given by the Ohio Academy of
Sciences, which recognizes those schools
displaying excellence in STEM-based
teaching. Beaumont is one of only 44 Ohio
primary and secondary schools recognized
for the 2014-2015 school year, and the only
high school in Cuyahoga County to receive
the award.
Ten of Beaumont’s faculty members were also
recognized, in conjunction with the award,
for their excellence in teaching STEM subjects;
only 401 Ohio teachers were bestowed this
honor. Beaumont has been a recipient of the
Thomas Edison Award for the past 12 years, a
testament of the school’s ability to evolve
with the advent of new STEM technology.
BEAUMONT MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Beaumont’s Voices of Harmony choir had the opportunity to perform
with the Cleveland State University choir during the holiday season,
singing with the collegiate choir during their concert, “Songs of
Thanksgiving and Hope.” The music department also performed at
Judson Manor’s annual Christmas Concert for the 16th year in a row.
Beaumont’s choristers, chamber orchestra, soloists and Voices of
Harmony impressed the audience during their traditional festive
Christmas Concert in late December - the perfect way to close out the
semester before the holidays begin.

BEAUMONT DRAMA DEPARTMENT
The Beaumont Drama Department presented Seussical this fall, a
musical based on various works by Dr. Seuss. This ensemble show was
performed to sellout crowds of all ages. Congratulations to the
talented thespians who were part of the cast and crew for this show!
Beaumont’s International Thespian Troupe is preparing to travel to the
Northeast Ohio Area Thespian Conference in January at the University
of Mount Union. The 11 girls will perform the one act “Brief
Interviews with Internet Cats” by Patrick Greene, hoping to earn a
performance slot at the Ohio Thespian Conference in March.
Save the date for our spring play. Nooses Off! is a zany comedy about
a community theater production in which everything that can go
wrong does go wrong. It will be performed March 3 through 6 in the
Beaumont theater.

with St. Edward High School

a time-honored Beaumont

Beaumont’s
Legacy of
Leadership
For 165 years, Beaumont School has been educating women for life, leadership
and service. These traditions have been shared across generations and continue to
be our foundation today. Throughout the history of our school, our alumnae have
nurtured these qualities of life, leadership and service, and have gone on to live
our mission in their lives every day.
Leadership can be showcased in a variety of ways. From law to engineering,
medicine to athletics, our graduates pursue a variety of careers around the world.
While leaders professionally, our alumnae are also leaders in their communities—
creating strong families and communities to honor the foundations they
cultivated during their time at Beaumont School.
The women below represent three decades of alumnae who have honed their
leadership skills and represent a multitude of disciplines. Certainly this is not
wholly representative of all Beaumont alumnae in leadership roles, but they have
each created a career and a life that encompasses our mission and embraces the
foundation of their time at Beaumont School.

How has your career path looked like
since graduating from Beaumont?
I am a sexual assault nurse examiner
(SANE). I take calls for the Cleveland Clinic
and take care of patients who present to

the emergency department after being
sexually assaulted or are victims of domestic
violence. I am the founder and president of
a non-profit called “A Race in Her Heels.”
The goal of the organization is to bring
awareness and change on sexual and
domestic violence prevention. The race is a
relay team of five men running a 20-yard
dash in high heels. It’s symbolic because
men who participate step out of their
comfort zone to talk about a topic we
aren’t all comfortable speaking about —
rape and violence. It raises attention to an
ugly subject that needs to be talked about
in a family-oriented, educational setting.
How did Beaumont help shape you
into the leader you are today?
I have chosen a career path that reflects
on my faith, values, education and
heritage inspired through the mission,
vision and values of Beaumont School.
Serving others is why we are here in this
world. To be able to go to Beaumont is a
privilege. You work hard academically and
spiritually. Many people in our community
have not had the opportunity we have.
Beaumont has taught me to be a disciple
of Christ. We need to continue to support
Beaumont, an amazing place that develops
young women into future leaders in our
community that will continue to instill the
mission, vision and values of Beaumont in
our communities, workplace, leadership
and families.

What has your career path looked like
since graduating from Beaumont?
I’ve served as a Trustee on the Boards of
Heights Community Congress (under my
former Beaumont Principal, the late and
loved Sister Margaret Ann Kelley ’49), the
Heights Emergency Food Center, and have
over 15 years of experience in health and
human services, advocacy and policy. Now
I’m in my first term as a State
Representative. I’ve drafted amendments,
constructed statewide and local policy, and
acquired millions of dollars to fund vital
programs that serve these populations. In
the process, I’ve learned what it takes to
affect change in Columbus and have
developed strong working relationships
with various state agencies.
How did Beaumont help shape you
into the leader you are today?
My family raised me to understand the
value and honor of serving others. This
included treating every person with dignity,
kindness and respect, regardless of station
in life, culture, or experience and to be a
part of the actualization of social justice,
and not just an observer. Besides the
obvious academic and environmental
advantages that Beaumont provided, in
terms of time management skills, rigorous
college prep, fantastic and diverse
extracurricular activities, a beautiful
campus, committed and nurturing faculty,
and amazing friendships that last a lifetime,
I began the journey of finding myself at
Beaumont. I learned who God intended me
to be, and how He would help me get
there. Beaumont prepared me to lead by
preparing me to serve.

How did Beaumont help shape you
into the leader you are today?
My confidence soared at Beaumont. The
nurturing, yet challenging, learning
environment allowed me to boldly try new
things. In addition to academics, I took
photography and sewing classes, played on
the tennis team, traveled to Europe,
volunteered and ran for student council. I
learned to manage my time and prioritize. I
learned to foster relationships. My friends
from Beaumont are still my closest friends
today; they are my advisors, inspiration and
comic relief.

What has your career path looked like
since graduating from Beaumont?
After graduating from OU I moved to
Chicago where I started working in Human
Resources as a benefits coordinator for
Chicago Title & Trust Company’s corporate
headquarters. After a few years I moved on
to work for Accenture, a global consulting
firm, as an HR Generalist and Recruiter. It
was during this time I started to pursue a
master’s degree from Loyola University
Chicago and eventually found my way to
YMCA where I stayed for the next 15 years.
This was a dream job working as an HR
consultant for YMCAs throughout the
country. However, the travel was extensive
and with young daughters at home I
struggled with being away too much.
In June of 2013 I found barre3 online
workouts and did them at home and in
hotel rooms when I was on the road.
Exercise became less of a chore and more
of something my body craved. I admired
barre3’s holistic approach to whole-body
health focusing as much on nutrition and
connection as on exercise. So much so, I set
out to open a barre3 studio in my
hometown so it could be shared with the
Cleveland community. The studio opened
in Legacy Village in February 2015 and,
thanks to an incredible staff, team and
amazing clients, it’s been a remarkable year.

What has your career path looked like
since graduating from Beaumont?
Since graduating Beaumont in 1991, I
furthered my education by attending
culinary school here in Cleveland. I felt that I
needed to continue my concentration in
Italian cuisine and wine, so I moved to Italy
to study. I was fortunate enough to study
under world-renowned Italian chef Giuliano
Bugialli. I worked in various restaurants in
Italy, and returned home with a solid
foundation to begin a credible career in the
Cleveland restaurant industry. After working
in several reputable restaurants in Cleveland,
I took a chance on a dream and opened
Marotta’s in the autumn of 2000.

What achievements are you most
proud of?
Beaumont prepared me for leadership by
instilling such values as integrity, ethics,
endurance, confidence and service. For me,
success is not measured by a financial
award or trophy for my talent, it is
determined by the ability to be of service to
others. Of course I am proud of my family, I
am a loving wife and mother of four young
children. However, the act of service is
transcendent. This includes, but is not
limited to, teaching children, caring for and
serving the less fortunate, and to always
assist anyone in need. These personal
obligations were taught to me by the
Ursuline Sisters at Beaumont. That is what
makes Beaumont, Beaumont.
Why is it important to give back to
Beaumont?
It is imperative to give back to Beaumont.
As the educational foundation for so many
of us, we must make sure that it is not a
financial decision for others. Beaumont is
more than just a high school for young
girls, it is an opportunity to acquire the
virtues and skills to become successful
women. By giving back, Beaumont will be
able to promote and foster the values of
the Ursuline Community, an opportunity
that would otherwise be unobtainable.

Beaumont taught me the confidence I need
to succeed in any position. My senior year
at Beaumont, I was the vice president for
Students Together Opposing Prejudice
(S.T.O.P.). I had my first taste of diversity
and inclusion strategies and I loved it. I did
not realize I could turn it into a career.
Through my leadership experience at
Beaumont, I learned how to be a change
agent by framing issues of diversity and
inclusion in a refreshing way. This has
served me well throughout my career and
has allowed me to be to become a leader
in field of diversity and inclusion.

If you could give a piece of advice to
yourself as a Beaumont student, what
would it be?
Follow your passion. You will spend a lot of
days at work and in school. Do something
that you are truly passionate about and the
financial rewards will follow.
What are some of your favorite
Beaumont memories?
My favorite memories are the friendships. I
was honored when I had the privilege of
asking a Beaumont alumna to be the
godmother of my daughter. At the end of
the day, life is about the relationships we
build and cherish and those relationships
are my favorite memories. Beaumont
helped cultivate those relationships
through retreats and service projects.
Those proved to be invaluable and are very
memorable to me.
Why is it important to give back to
Beaumont?
I believe it is important to give back to
Beaumont because the world needs more
confident, educated and motivated women
in leadership positions. Beaumont prepares
young women to become leaders in any
field they choose.
Professional achievements:
The focus of my practice has always been
criminal defense. During my career, I have
been fortunate to defend people in many
interesting cases. From 2014 through 2016 I
have been named as a Rising Star by Ohio
Super Lawyers magazine in the area of
Criminal Defense, an award reserved for the
top 2.5% of Ohio lawyers under the age of
40. I have written articles that have been
published by legal magazines in Ohio and
have been interviewed by local and national
media outlets concerning criminal cases and
issues involving criminal law. Additionally, I
have taught attorneys at numerous
continuing legal education seminars
involving topics related to criminal defense.
How did Beaumont help shape you
into the leader you are today?
Tradition is important to me. One of my
grandmothers and many of my aunts and
cousins graduated from Beaumont.
Beaumont taught me that hard work will
lead to success and helped me to gain
confidence in my academic abilities. More
importantly, my years at Beaumont taught
me to use good judgment, a trait which has
helped me to deal with difficult situations
during my practice of law. The qualities I
developed at Beaumont contributed to

successes I have had in my life. I believe it is
important to make sure that Beaumont
continues to be a place that helps young
girls become confident young women.

What has your career path looked like
since graduating from Beaumont?
Upon graduating I moved to NYC to
pursue a childhood dream that has since
become a reality. While dancing remains
my first love, I have branched out into
singing, modeling, acting and voiceover
work and have appeared in numerous
industrials, commercials, music videos,
company performances and musicals. The
past three seasons I have had the pleasure
of dancing at the Metropolitan Opera
working with notable choreographers and
directors on original works. The all-girls
Catholic education Beaumont provided me
with gave me the confidence to go into
the performing arts despite the hardships
and rejection that often go hand-in-hand
with my field. Beaumont allowed me to
hone my leadership and creativity skills in
a safe environment where I felt my voice
mattered and I have carried those
sentiments into my professional career.
The faith-based education has also helped
me to get through rough patches and
feelings of inadequacy in this highly
competitive industry.
How did Beaumont help shape you
into the leader you are today?
Beaumont taught me to be conscientious,
respectful, curious, motivated, enthusiastic
and ambitious. They allowed me to be
more competitive, accept leadership roles,
and try new things. Beaumont helped me
to be courageous and to believe great
things could happen if I set my mind to it.

I believe it is important to give back to
Beaumont because by giving back you
provide future generations with the
opportunity to become strong independent
women of the future.

(2008); 800 meter title holder for all four
years at Beaumont; and current Ohio
state record holder in 1600 meter
• NCAA 3,000 meter indoor track champion
and top runner on the 2011 NCAA
national cross country championship team
at Georgetown University
• Represented USA in the world cross
country championships in Poland (2013);
placed third in the world cross country
championships 10,000 meter run in China
(2015); and currently training to compete
in the USA Olympic trials in July 2016
How did Beaumont help shape you
into the leader you are today?
Beaumont taught me a great deal about
leadership that helped me through my
studies at Georgetown, as well and my
collegiate and now professional career in
running. I always had great support from
Beaumont and really feel that I was
enabled to believe I could achieve anything
I set my sights on. I felt very empowered as
a woman going to Beaumont and am so
thankful for my experience there. I was
taught to be grateful for all my talents and
to not take them for granted but to strive
for excellence. I am so proud to be an
alumna of Beaumont!

ANNUAL FUND
Beaumont is committed to keeping
tuition affordable for our students and
their families. We are very grateful to
those who support our efforts by
establishing scholarships. Paying tribute
to children, parents, family, friends and
teachers, Beaumont’s Scholarship Funds
provide financial assistance to numerous
students annually. Philanthropic support
of Beaumont through its scholarship
opportunities helps the school support
qualified young women who desire a
Beaumont education.
The Annual Fund provides Beaumont
with the funding for day-to-day
operations. It helps bridge the gap
between tuition and the actual cost of
educating each student. Gifts to the
Annual Fund help support every student.

actual classroom or experiential learning

scholarships that actively support
students each year. December 2015
marked the 35th anniversary of Sister
Dorothy Kazel’s martyrdom in El
Salavador. We continue to seek funds,
especially on this anniversary year, to
bring her scholarship to full endowment
so that we can begin awarding funds to

FABULOUS 50S LUNCHEONS
For the third year in a row, Beaumont hosted alumnae for the classes of 1950
through 1959 for luncheons with their former classmates. Split over two days,
the Fabulous 50s luncheons hosted more than 65 Beaumont alumnae in the
Lennon House, which served as the Junior Senior building during their time at
Beaumont. The class of 1949 also hosted a lunch at the Lennon House in the
week following the Fabulous 50s luncheons. Beaumont student ambassadors
helped serve during these events and were able to share stories of their
Beaumont experience with the women who came before them.

The 18th annual Beaumont Golf Classic was held at The
Country Club in Pepper Pike on Monday, September 14.
Alumnae, current and past parents, and members of the
Beaumont community come together for a day of golf
and also raised funds for the Alumnae Scholarship Fund.

SENSATIONAL 60S PARTY
An idea that grew out of the Fabulous 50s Luncheon, Beaumont hosted the
classes of 1960 through 1969 for the Sensational 60s Party at the Lennon
House in October. This inaugural event drew a great group of alumnae from
these classes for a fun evening of catching up with friends.

Our advancement department has the honor of traveling to
visit alumnae around the country each year. This fall, president
Sister Gretchen Rodenfels, OSU ‘65 and alumnae manager

Chicago-based Beaumont alumnae gathered in September 2015
This year’s Breakfast with Santa, presented by the Beaumont
Alumnae Association, was held on Saturday, December 12 at
Beaumont. This annual event features crafts, breakfast and a special
meet and greet with Santa Claus himself for families with young
children. Beaumont students help with creating crafts in the Foyer
and alumnae are on hand to serve breakfast in the Dining Room
during this memorable pre-Christmas tradition.

LITURGY FOR DECEASED ALUMNAE
During the month of November, the Catholic church sets aside time to honor the Communion of Saints. At Beaumont,
we honor the lives of deceased alumnae with an annual Liturgy for Deceased Alumnae. This year, the Liturgy was held on
Sunday, November 1 in Beaumont’s St. Angela Merici Chapel. We continue to hold these individuals in our prayers
throughout the school year.

SIP AND SHOP
The 6th annual Sip and Shop was held on December 3. This holiday vendor event is the
perfect way for Beaumont alumnae, students, parents and community members to shop
for everyone on their Christmas lists. We were excited to host more than 80 vendors for a
night of shopping and socializing. This evening is a wonderful opportunity to gather with
friends and family and support local artists and entrepreneurs.

Beaumont’s Sip and Shop benefits the
Beaumont Gala, an annual event that
raises funds necessary to provide financial
assistance to all young women who want
to be part of the Beaumont experience.
Participating in the Beaumont Gala Wine
Pull is a simple way to support the Gala.
It’s our goal to collect 100 bottles of wine
and champagne valued at $20 or more for
the Wine Pull. Guests at the Gala are then
able to pull a mystery bottle of wine with
a $20 donation.

Bill and Vivian Painter - grandchildren of
Kenyon Painter, original owner of
Beaumont’s property - visited the school
this past August. Their grandfather,
Kenyon Painter, Jr., grew up in the
mansion that is now The Lennon House.
After being purchased by the Ursulines in
the 1940s, the Painter mansion became
Beaumont’s original school building, later
serving as a convent and, currently, as the
offices for Beaumont’s advancement and
finance departments.

At the Memorial Mass at Beaumont we honored
our deceased classmate Pat Rosance Todd. Our

a Western Caribbean Cruise in October. They
went to Cozumel, Belize and Honduras.

in East Liverpool, Ohio, and she is very happy
with condo living.

Shaker High. Her proficiency in French is serving

TX, where Andrea lives and Kathy was in the
area to attend a grandson’s band concert. Kathy
requests prayers for her 14-year-old grandson,
Grant Cooper, who will have heart surgery in
January.
Ed Rhinehart, husband of Madonna Welsh
Rhinehart and brother of Bretta Rhinehart
Zamzow, passed away suddenly in The Villages,
Florida. Our hearts and prayers go out to them,
at this tragic time.
Judith Sheehan welcomed her 14th grandchild
into this world.
Charla Roediger Bernstein, who lost her
husband, Bob, last January, is proud to
announce the birth of her seventh grandchild.
Charla’s grandchildren range in ages from 3
months to 20 years old.
Bonnie Sheldon Martino reports that she and
her husband, David, have been busy traveling
the world. This past summer, they took a Rick
Stieves’ tour to England; and, then went on to
visit friends in Torino, Florence and Fiesole, Italy,
where Bonnie got to practice her Italian.
The daughter of our late and beloved classmate,
Teresa DeFino Mannen, who shared the
identical name with her mother, got married
twice in November. First, Teresa, had a beautiful
beach wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to
Keith Nothraker; and the next week, they flew to
Cleveland and got married and celebrated again.
Congratulations, may your lives together be
joyful. Carol Senda Damaso, her husband, Don
and their children attended the Mannen events,
both in Mexico and in Cleveland. Carol relates
that she enjoyed connecting with Margaret
Hanna Gentile at the Cleveland wedding, as
Carol and Don live in Scottsdale, Arizona. They
will be spending the Christmas holidays in West
Hollywood, California with all of their children.
Judit (Judy) Szabo Jacovits writes from San
Francisco to tell us how blessed she is with her
mother being still well at 94 years old, 10
beautiful and healthy grandchildren, and they
have rebranded all of their fitness clubs to
couldn’t attend, we missed you, but you were in
our thoughts and our fond memories of the
years we spent together. There is nothing that
compares to being with women you’ve known
since you were young girls.
On October 15 Beaumont held an event at
Lennon House just for classmates of the 60’s –
Sensational Sixties. Although only seven of us
could be there, we had a great time mingling
with the other 60’s girls. It’s always interesting to
wander through the lovely rooms of the Lennon
House (former Painter mansion) where we at
least were lucky enough to have spent our junior
year.

Jim had a thrilling trip to Italy, in September.
They had never been to the Puglia region, in
spite of their numerous Italian trips. They visited
friends, who own a villa in Andria, Italy. Her one
bit of advice is this: do yourselves a favor, and
go to the medieval cities of Alberobello and
Lecce. Not only are they historic, but they are
positively beautiful and quaint.

“lunch bunch” met in Oct. at Bar Louie in
Crocker Park. Mary Blubaugh Kinley’s son,
Shaun, has an art gallery there. It was fun to
meet him and see his work depicting Cleveland
landmarks. Next summer we hope we can
encourage other “girls” to join us as it is great
fun!

The class of 1963 celebrates turning 70!
Caroline Gruelock Graham reports her
husband treated her & daughters, Megan and
Denise to a cruise to the Bahamas. They had not
had a chance to be together without husbands
or kids in a very long time. Since she retired as
Administrative Coordinator from Publix
Supermarkets, she has taken up painting in
acrylics, learned to play Mah Jong and has been
traveling.
Diane Lombardy had a successful hip
replacement and said she was thrilled to receive
so many get well cards from the Beaumonsters!
Sharon Tucci Anderson will be spending
Jan-March 2016 in Bonita Springs, FL. Hopefully

Our 50th reunion was held on the weekend of
June 12 and 13 and it was a grand celebration.
Forty five of our classmates were there to revel
in two beautiful summer evenings. Some were
at Beaumont on Friday night to reminisce and
reconnect, and also explore the new addition.
Others joined us Saturday afternoon for mass at
Beaumont and then on to Nighttown, just down
the road. We enjoyed a leisurely cocktail hour on
the patio, which we had all to ourselves. There
was plenty of time to relish the company of
classmates, spouses, and significant others. It
was refreshing, relaxing, and hearty laughter
filled the air throughout our dinner. If you

Donna Schuele has joined the faculty in the
Department of Political Science at California
State University, Los Angeles, teaching courses in
public law. She also has been awarded a
contract by Rutledge Publishing to write a
jurisprudential biography of Sandra Day
O’Connor.
Ann Dahlman Leubbert is writing a children’s
book about a zebra that “escaped” from the
zoo. She has been posting the story line on
Facebook.
Annie Tamburro D’Alessandro and her
husband Bob completed their first full marathon
in October in Columbus.

Barb Mulanax Mamone let us know that
she married on June 26, 2015 and she and
her husband, John Almaguer, are enjoying
life in Austin. Barb’s daughter, Linda, is a
graduate of St. George’s University Medical
School; her daughter, Sandy, works and
goes to school in San Diego and serves as a
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate).
Barb’s son, Pete, is a West Point graduate
and former Army Captain who served two
tours of duty in Iraq as an Apache
helicopter pilot.
Peggy Monastra was in Dallas on business and
met up with Eva Fiola Hines. Eva wants
everyone to remember if they are ever in Dallas
she would love to see you too!

Happy New Year class of 1978!
Mary Zaller was spotted on the front page
of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Mary is the
development director of Equality Ohio.

Molly McBride Hummer was back in
Cleveland recently and was seen at Gesu
visiting her daughter who is a teacher
there. Also spotted at Gesu is Diane
Geraci DeGaetano. Diane is now working
at Gesu. Rosemary Leone Nemeth is still
there too!
Karen Young, Bindy (Linda) Plucinsky Kelly
had a mini reunion at the home of Janet
Amadio Cross in Atlanta. Karen was in town
for a concert and Bindy lives here. They had a
great night catching up!
Molly Sweeny is an interior designer for Ethan
Allen at Legacy Village.
Marianne DiSanto Storath moved to Singer
Island, Florida, where she teaches Yoga and
fitness full time. She also would love to see you
if you are in the neighborhood.
Clara Allen recently moved to Sonoma,
California and is now the Executive Director of
Golden Living’s skilled nursing center in Sonoma.
She had been living in San Francisco for the past
eight years. She’d love for you to let her know if
you’re in the wine country!

Lisa Washington Manning has been married
to Robert (Marty) Manning, Benedictine alum,
for 22 years! She is a LSW and works for
Western Reserve Agency on Aging as a Clinical
Supervisor. “I spend time with my daughters,
extended family and friends and my husband
and I enjoy traveling. Life is good for me! My
Beaumont beginnings have definitely paid off!”
Beaumont’s Sip and Shop was an amazing
evening. Don’t miss it next year! It’s a great

and get some Christmas shopping done.
Heather Fowler Nacke is still living in Indiana
and celebrating every day! I have been married
to Garret for over 24 years. She is working at
FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) Kokomo
Casting Plant as the Industrial Engineering
Manager and Workplace Organization Pillar
Lead. She is a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and
has a state position with this worthwhile
philanthropic organization that only exists in the
state of Indiana. She continues to serve at All
Saints Catholic Church as a cantor and member
of both choirs.

Amy Thompson Mosier and Mary Kelley
Ebner are chairing the Beaumont Gala this
year! The Gala is Saturday, April 16 at
Landerhaven. They hope to fill a table for
the class of 1979.
Cathleen Fleck has received tenure and was
promoted in May 2015 to Associate Professor of
Art History in the Fine and Performing Arts
Program at Saint Louis University. She lives in St.
Louis with her two sons, Finn (11) and Duncan
(9), and her husband, Dennis Barbour.
Debra Boland has been living just south of San
Francisco for almost 7 years now and loves it!
She is a nurse practitioner and works at Stanford
in Orthopedic Trauma. She is planning on
coming back for the reunion in June and looks
forward to seeing everyone!

Angela Ledyard said back in her Beaumont
days, she fell in love with fitness. She ran track
and used to lift weights at the school. Though
working out and staying in shape was a passion
of mine, I always saw it as something fun to do.
As life went on, my workouts became somewhat
infrequent. Some years later and with many life
experiences her love and passion for fitness
returned. She obtained her Bachelors of Business
Management from Ursuline College and became
a certified personal trainer and group instructor.
She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had a
total thyroidectomy. When she was told she was
cancer free, she took some time off from
teaching fitness to reinvent herself. She has
become a strong advocate for healthy living and
teaching others how to balance that lifestyle. She
added new certifications to her plate, including
becoming a Certified Yoga Instructor – RYT200,
health coach and healthy cooking instructor. She’s
an avid cyclist, co-owner of KRaCY Adventures,
LLC, a business getting women out of their
comfort zones and doing things like kayaking,
running, cycling and yoga.
1989
Happy New Year to all! Carrie Conrath Clark
received a scholarship to and recently completed
the Performance Management for Non-Profits
Program at Harvard University’s Business School
(in partnership with the Kennedy School). Carrie
has worked as the Executive Director of
Medworks for the last 4 and a half years,
helping to ensure the area’s underinsured and
insured populations have access to unconditional
health care.
Jen Barile Luca has been teaching part time at
Cuyahoga Community College while also
working as Fitness Coordinator at the Solon
Community Center. She was offered a position
as Assistant Professor in the Sport and Exercise
Studies program at the college. She absolutely
loves being able to mentor students as they
pursue their goals in a field that she is
passionate about. The constant challenge lies in
balancing work with being a mom to her three
kids! She is fortunate to keep in touch with
many fellow Beaumont alum! So many great
people and memories!
1991
Sarah Thomas married Joseph Schultz in
October.
Bernadette Clemens is Executive Director of
Development at Case Western Reserve
University, and she continues as Co-Artistic
Director of Mamai Theatre Company.

Remember walking up to the North Park
entrance on your first day of freshman year,
sporting a brand new pair of bucks (or was
it penny loafers?) with butterflies in your
stomach – nervous about what was to come
and excited to find out who you were going to
meet? And now, it’s been almost 20 years since
we sat through a banner raising ceremony at
Beaumont. How is that possible?! The details
are in the works, but block off June 17 – 19,
2016 for our 20th class reunion. We’ll have a
weekend to catch up with old friends and
make new memories.

Myranda Stephens and her partner in life and
business, Spencer Holmes, welcomed their first

Maggie Keenan is working as the Budget

Liz Dugas is on a yearlong National
Broadway Tour with Bullets Over Broadway.
It is part of the Keybank Broadway Series
and performed in Cleveland, October 6th
- 18th. She is a 2010 University of Michigan
graduate with honors from the School of
Music, Theatre and Dance and the The
College of Literature, Science, and the Arts
with a double major. She currently resides
in NYC where she performs with the
Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center,
models, acts and does commercial work.
Leigh Bornhorst will marry Jimmy Perkins
in August at St. John Cantius in Tremont.
Ronni Garofoli graduated from ClevelandMarshall College of Law in May and passed
the Ohio Bar Examination in October. She
also became an aunt again in July to her
sister Nicki’s ‘03 son Enzo Anthony.
Lauren Hauptman is working for Rosetta
in San Luis Obispo, California. She and her
fiancée Ben Weisel will be married in
Cleveland in July.

Michelle Ianni married Michael Kitko on
June 13th at St. Pascal Baylon in Highland
Heights. Michelle’s sister Theresa ‘10 was
maid of honor and 2006 classmate Alex
Hupertz was also bridesmaid.
Katie Kandrach married Ryan Sapp on
Valentine’s Day 2015 in Columbus. Best
friend and fellow 2006 classmate Lauren
Hauptman was the maid of honor. Katie
and Ryan bought a house in Clintonville,
OH. Katie is a senior designer at Victoria’s
Secret where she works on the in-store
marketing.

Dame High School for four years.
In October, Molly St. John was engaged to
Sam Strano. They both live in Cleveland where
Molly is a registered nurse.
Sarah West is in her third and final year of law
school at Cleveland-Marshall. She will take the
bar examination next summer.
2007
Emily Rose is just finishing up her first semester
of graduate school at CSU for Occupational
Therapy. She is enjoying the program and on
track to graduate in December of 2017.
2008
Ristina Gooden and Kristian Gist have started
a new business: Sugar Hippo Bakery. After
winning a grant from Brit + CO and the I Am
Foundation, they started work on a long time
dream to open up a bakery. Their bakery is online
at sugarhippobakery.com and ships items fresh to
your door in 1-2 business days. Their mission is to
not only provide customers with delicious treats
but to help out the community. They donate a
portion of all sales towards providing kids that are
in foster homes or shelters with cakes on their
birthday to remind them that they are loved and
important and provide jobs to women in shelters
who may be struggling to get back on their feet.
They launched online on December 1, 2015. One
of their first partners, The Van Buren Shelter, is
based in Columbus, Ohio.
This spring from Mar 21-May 15 Mary Ryan
will be participating in a 3,300 mile cross
country bike ride (San Diego to Washington
D.C.) as part of Ride for World Health (R4WH).
R4WH is a group of fourth year medical students
who ride to support their three-fold mission of
global and local health advocacy, education, and

Congratulations to Gina Cortese for graduating
from Kent State this past December! She was
recently interviewed for a feature on Channel 3
in Cleveland about her journey with cancer and
her desire to help others in need. Her website

Congratulations to Lexi Weber and her new
husband, Brian Trautman, who were married on
September 26 and best wishes to Melissa
Militello and her new husband, Tony Allen,
who were wed on July 5.
Kerry Keyes and her fiancée have fallen in love
with their daughter, Zelda Grace Young, born in
Charleston, SC on November 18.
And to top that all of, Meredith Muir, couldn’t
love the Netflix Original Series, Gracie and Frank,
any more and would like to thank Beth Melena
’08 for the recommendation. Similarly, Eileen
Dise has found the famed series, Rubi, on
Netflix and knows any students of Senora
Matos, will quickly remember their love for
Spanish II.
Bridgid Luskin and Michael Skidmore
were married on September 4th in Pine,
Colorado during a ceremony with close
family and friends. Their daughter Rian will
turn one on February 6th.
Over the summer, Kate Malone rode with
Team Cleveland Indians in the second
annual VeloSano bike to cure event. She
rode approximately 900 training miles over
the summer and joined 1,300 cyclists in
raising $3 million for cancer research at the
Cleveland Clinic.
In May, Megan McCafferty married Dan
Nichols in Parma. Megan and Dan met at
Duquesne University and are both physician
assistants in Buffalo. They will be moving
back to Cleveland in January. Elaine
Mullally was Megan’s maid of honor.
Elaine moved back to Cleveland in August
and is working at the Music Settlement as a
preschool teacher.
Maggie Prosser will marry Andrew Hauser
in July at St. Clare Chapel in Cincinnati,
