October 10th World Mental Health Day
OCTOBER 2014
• October 3rd
Movie in the Park
World mental health day is a day dedicated to a global mental health
education, awareness, and advocacy. The initiative first celebrated in 1992,
was run by the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health
organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
Understanding mental illnesses can be difficult as a mental illness can take
many forms, just as a physical illness. In our society there is still a lot of fear
surrounding mental illnesses. We can help eliminate this fear by raising
awareness and advocating for loved ones who may suffer from a mental
health disorder. If you or someone you know is suffering from a mental
illness it is important to know that all mental illnesses can be treated.
• October 10th
World Mental Health Day
For further information on mental health disorders, check out the
Canadian Mental Health Association at www.cmha.ca .
NOVEMBER 2014
• Family Violence
Prevention Month
For those who face a mental illness in their everyday lives, friends, family,
and society as a whole, we all have a part to play in raising awareness
for mental illness. If you educate yourself and those around you we
can eliminate the fear and the stigma that surrounds mental health. By
educating your children and teaching them positive values; people with
mental illnesses will be cared about, have equality and social justice, have
integrity, honesty, and responsibility just as those members of society who
are not suffering. This is all a part of asset building and development!
