Page 8 to the 2016 California Volkssport Association (CVA) Convention in the beautiful Inland Empire of Southern California. The Inland Empire is famous for beautiful mountains, lovely deserts and rugged country where Stage coaches roamed freely. We are offering three convention volkswalks, and one swimming event. The social events will include a free meet and greet, a catered lunch and Italian dinner. We are also offering 23 YRE walk events throughout Southern California, with ten in the Inland Empire. Convention headquarters will be the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, See below for more information on booking at the hotel and the back page for driving directions.. For additional information and preregistration, read on and then go to the CVA website (cva4u.org) for more detailed information. EVERYONE IS WELCOME Where: The convention will be held at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 1864 Oak Valley Village Circle, Beaumont, CA 92223. (Banning is immediately East and Calimesa is immediately West of Beaumont). The 2016 Convention award is a patch depicting a stagecoach with San Bernardino snow-covered mountains in the background. The stagecoach indicative of early ventures in the Inland Empire. This award is available at a cost of $5.00 each. A secondary award, a refrigerator magnet in the form of California with the lettering CVA, will be included in the Welcome Packet to all convention registrants at no additional cost. (Banning also known as Stagecoach Town, USA) Both 10K and 5K walks start at a very interesting and beautiful location. You will view five murals, a classic movie theatre (Fox, 1928), WPA works (Nicolet School, 1938), walk Indian School Lane which is all that is left to remember St. Boniface Indian School. The walk will then go through San Gorgonio Memorial Park which was once part of the Morongo Indian Reservation, then traded to Southern Pacific Railroad who sold it to the city. It will then return to Repplier Park named after John G. Repplier, who planted the Italian cypress trees along San Gorgonio Ave. in 1913 and became to first tree warden. PA-16/104338 rated 1A. Volkssporters can use the convention headquarters hotel pool or any other local swimming pools for this event. Must bring your own towel. What is a Volkswalk? A Volkswalk is a walk, jog or run at your own pace along a pre-marked route. It is a non-competitive, non-timed event, intended to provide fun and fitness for you, your family, and your friends! Participants can walk for AVA credit, credit plus a patch award, or walk for free. You can find out more about Page 4 Volkssporting at www.ava.org Event 3: Beaumont/Cherry Valley, PA16/104337. Rated 1A. The Beaumont/Cherry Valley Water District Recharge Center consists of eight giant water holding basins. The water is supplied from mountain run-off and water wells throughout this area. The stored water is used by both communities. Directly adjacent to the recharge center is the nine acre Demonstration Garden. The 10K walk continues through Oakview Park with its gorgeous view of the San Bernardino Mountain Range and San Gorgonio Mountain (highest mountain in So. Calif. at 11,503 ft.). The 5K walk will take you through parts of small town Cherry Valley. You will pass Riverside County-Cherry Valley Fire Station 22, one of the oldest fire stations in California. Special Programs Food For Thought, Honoring Our Flag, Take a Walk In a City Park, Walk the USA - Street by Street Event 4: Redlands, PA16/104336. Rated 2B. Beginning in the 119 year old Prospect Park, the “Palms and Palaces” walk continues through neighborhoods that contain Victorian (such as Kimberly Crest), Edwardian (Miraflores), Craftsman and Modern style buildings. Multiple “social levels” of housing are evident on this walk. The estates, supervisors’ and middle managers’ homes are distinctly different in size, style and land plots. This area is a classic example of the Empire and Era of the “Orange Kingdom”.
