what an eclectic, interesting, beautiful collection of images it is. Each one unique in
the story it narrates, the emotion it evokes
or simply that intriguing split second in
time that is captured for posterity.
Our thanks once again to our “go-to”
group, the Club Fotográfico de Guatemala
for their continuing contributions, as well
as the dozens of other photographers who
sent in their photos. We received so many
submissions this year that, with exceptions,
we could only use one photograph per artist,
which was an extremely difficult process of
elimination. And if we missed anyone, please
give us another opportunity next year.
Be sure to check each page because there
are photos throughout the magazine and
they are all worth seeing.

ll month La Antigua Galería de Arte (4a
calle oriente #15), will be presenting the latest oils, watercolors and photography by Guatemalan artist César Barrios.
César Barrios was born in 1949 in Guatemala City. He studied art and graphic design in
Costa Rica and Spain, and worked in advertising agencies in Guatemala and Costa Rica.
In the early 1980s Barrios began to focus
on watercolors and engravings, and won many
national awards for his command of these techniques. His work has been showcased both here
and abroad in many countries including Mexico, Italy, Taiwan, Brazil and the United States.

Spice Up Your Life!
This was the theme of the New Year´s Eve fundraiser for Open Windows Library
of San Miguel Dueñas. This past year the library inaugurated the 2nd-floor computer
laboratory with 20 computers, changed the old computer room into the teen study hall
and had over 1200 children inscribed in the daily activities which included different
weekly themes, math reinforcement and help in reading and comprehension.
Also we are proud to announce that our 17 scholarship students all passed the school year.

is a non-profit, non-governmental charitable organization registered in Guatemala
and with 501(c)3 status in the
U.S. that cares for and finds
loving and responsible pet owners to adopt abandoned
animals. AWARE has a 10-acre site in Sumpango where
about 170 dogs and 70 cats live. A permanent spay/neuter clinic is also on site and public education is another
key objective of AWARE. Donations of cash, dog and cat
