LSPBC Cruise night 2008 kicks off
with a big bang at Norma’s Café.
We held our first cruise night of the year at Norma’s Café in Carrollton. Thanks to everyone
that helped out at the show, from registration to 50/50. We had a nice turnout of Turbo
Buicks! Where were the 70’s cars? Did they make Buicks back then? :) Just kidding. We
did have Jack Laswell’s very rare 1971 GSX 4-Speed car on display And kuddos to Jack for
winning Best of Show! Next month we hope to see more 60-70 Buicks. Come on guys
you got to give Jack a little friendly competition.

A Word From the President
A Word From the Vice-President
Our March meeting was held at PAPA’s BBQ in
Dallas. The PINKS project was the main topic,
the members voted to sell the interior in the car
to build more $$$ for the project. They will be
sold on Ebay. Also it was voted that the club will
donate up to $500 for the project if needed. The
machine work needed on the block has been donated by
Lonnie (John Martins friend) up in Cincinnati. By the time
you read this it will already be there to be machined.
Hey guys
I heard we had a great car show this past
month. I’m sorry I missed it but as some of you
know I was in Kentucky for the GS Nationals. I
saw a few club members out there as well,
glad to see familiar faces.
Our show had 34 entries and 12 were Buicks. It’s fantastic
that we are still showing up with our cars to support the club.
The entries were a little weak compared to what we have
had in the past but hopefully, with time, the word will spread
and we can grow once again. The parking lot is somewhat
tight but there is a lot next door and behind the restaurant
that have some more spaces if needed.
This year we have added two extra classes and can add
more if needed. We joined up with Cars Road Show this
year to help them out as well as ourselves so let’s make this
a good year and let’s see how many Buicks we can have
participate in our shows.
I want to invite everyone and their families to come out and
have fun with us at our shows and represent what “Going
Fast With Class” is all about.
Also a personal thanks to all of the members that were at the
meeting. I needed to replace the interior door trim on my GN
and the PINKS car was a perfect donor. I was willing to have
them put them on Ebay and bid on them like we have done
on the rest of the parts but the members voted to give them
to me. I did switch out my bad ones for the good ones. And
they really look awesome! I purchased some overlay strips
from Buick GN.com and some etchions with the turbo 6
Logos, and man they look brand new. Thanks everyone it is
really appreciated.
Be sure to check out the new car shows at Norma’s Café in
Carrollton, we need your support.
Also congrats to new member Chase Tucker for winning the
first race of the year at Redline.
Chase has a 87GN, pretty much stock running 8.0’s. Very
nice!

August 15th & 16th Carsroadshow.com will be
putting on Ridez of the Timez at the Dallas County
Convention Center. Our club will be the host
club for this show! It is a 2 day event. Cars will
be put in on Friday and the show is all
day Saturday.
You may pull your car out on Saturday night or
Sunday Morning if you so choose.
We will need a certain amount of club members to
help on both days with getting set up, getting the
cars in and judging. We are looking to put at least
15 cars in the show so set your calendars.
UPDATE!
Due to this event being the same weekend as our
show at Norma’s, Carsroadshow will have another
crew operate the Norma’s show for us this one
month. So there will be a August show at
Norma’s but it will not be hosted by our club.

LSPBC Race Series Kicks Off to a Good Start!
This years race season kicked off on April 12th.
Weather was beautiful and the Density Altitude
was unbelievable, see pic below! For all you racers that could not make it, the air doesn’t get any
better around here than that. The new Sportsman
ladder format was put to the test (for details, see
Spring ‘08’ Newsletter). With some added confusion of some folks not paying attention, and then
David and Rob adding a few points of confusion
just to be difficult..hehe..we were finally all set and
the ladder worked out very well. I think everyone
enjoyed the new format. The turnout was decent
as we had 11 Buicks and one non-Buick in the
eliminations for a 12 car field. The finals came
down to Rob Downey vs Chase Tucker, and Carl
Brimer with a bi-run. Rob red-lighted and ended
up in 3rd place, Carl snapped his rear axle but
managed to cross the beams to claim 2nd place,
and the final then was a bi-run by Chase to take
1st place as our club winner for the 1st Club Race.
Everyone needs to come out and at least spectate
at the race event if you have never been out and
don’t want to race your Buick!!

Here’s a few photos of the carnage Carl’s car suffered for the 1st race. Snapped the axle right in
half! No one told Carl he was having a bi-run?

2008 GS Nationals Go Down as RECORD Breaking!!!
Records and personal best's were busted wide open at the annual Buick GS Nationals held
in Bowling Green, KY the week of May 13th. The Gallina/Freeman Team with Kenny Duttweiler in the house went 6.98 at 197+mph which is the fastest and quickest pass ever in a
turbo v6 door slammer!!!. Dave Fiscus takes the TSO class mph and et record with a 8.45 at
164.59mph. Jason white set his new personal best with a 9.40. Jason Cramer ran a 9.65 his
new best. Ron Jospeh in a wild tire spinning launch runs his 1st 9 sec pass. Odell Cantrell
gets his 1st 8 sec pass at 155+. Dick Kerney set the bar in TSM at 9.26 @ 147+. Jim Rodgers ran a 10.48 pass In his super clean 1970 Buick GS Stage 1. Gary Harmon and Willard Brown in a
side by side duel shattered the ole TSL mph and et record with side by side 8 sec passes at 153+. Our
own John Martin also blasted off a few 9 second passes also. Props go out to the Beech Bend Crew and
Jim Carswell for their AWSOME track prep which gave the racers the chance to set these all time bests
as well as great weather temps in the 60’s and low 70’s.
Although attendance was lower than previous years, there were still many racers in attendance yet the
car show did suffer as attendance of participants was low. I tried to catch pics of all of the “unique” vehicles we saw. When I say we, your three amigos Victor Segovia, Ralph Haber, and myself made the trip
together. Other LSPBC members there were John Martin with his car to race, Don Hutson, and Mike Barnet to spectate. The record setting passes and the turbo V6 dragster made it all worthwhile! Not to mention seeing a couple of the 650hp Corvette ZR1s getting built during the tour of the factory!

Nice wheel standing take off!
Good looking twin turbo setup!
The turbo V6 dragster made several passes, but could
never keep the wheels stuck to the ground. The last past
lit them up at the 60’ mark, then he got back in it and
lifted a cylinder head at the 1000’ mark and still
coasted to a 6.78 at 184mph!!
It’s a twin turbo setup running methanol, no IC.
The car show turnout, still a lot of Buicks in one spot!

Mustang drivers when they get beat by this 4-door

A heavily customized “T”, but there is something
missing on this car….anyone see what it is?

Did You Know?
I’ve been studying the T cars since 1985 and have seen a lot of different types of in my hay
day. I’ve been going to car shows since I was a kid and the GS Nationals since 1993 and
have seen almost every type and color ever made. I’m still learning about these cars and
really enjoy knowing more. I have put some trivia stuff together below for other members to
see how well you really know your cars. Unfortunately it’s all Turbo car trivia because that’s
all I know, some of you non-turbo folks can submit items for those cars. I hope you like it!
The WH1is the only T car( referring to T Types and T packages or
Turbo T’s) that came with a rear spoiler from the factory. The rest
were installed as dealer options or done in someone’s garage.
Besides the grille being different on
the 1986 from the 1987 GN’s, so
were the pull straps on the door. In
86 they were black and in 87 they
were gray.
The turbo 6 logo on the 1986, 1987 GN’s
are not all the same. The 6 logo on the head
rest and the emblems on the fenders are
different from the ones on the wheel caps.
The logo on the head rest and the fenders
the 6 loops over the top of logo and on the
wheel caps the 6 loops underneath.
The 1986 and 1987 T wheels were used on the
1984 and 1985 Grand Nationals. The inner rib
cage area was painted black.
All GN’s were not black, in 1982 they were two tone gray.
All GNX’s started out as fully
assembled Grand Nationals.
In fact the original removed
parts, such as the rims were
shipped back to the factories
to be used again.
Did You Know? (con’t)
The WE4 T Package was the lightest of the turbo cars. 100 lbs less than the
T cars and even more than the GN’s. The WE4(1987) was also the only T
Package that came with solid black bumpers like the Grand National. The
rest of the T cars had chrome bumpers. The WE4 was the only T car that
did not come with a hood ornament, all the other T cars did.
In 1987 all Limited Turbo Cars were column shift.
They did make a column shift turbo car that was not a Limited. It was just
a base Regal with the v6 turbo option. In 1986 these column shift were all
black out packages and in 1987 they came in both chrome and black out
trims.
1987 was the only year for the D84(two tone)….they came in 4
different colors schemes. Chestnut on Light Brown, Maroon and
Rosewood, Gray on Silver and Dark Blue on Light Blue.
The D84 designer series always had the darker color on top.
All GNX's came from
the factory as solid
roof cars. One GNX,
owned by ASC founder Heinze Prechter
ran his through the
sunroof line during
build up. It is GNX
#33.
In 1987 they did not make any turbo cars with digital climate control. 1986 was the
last year for that option.
The infamous color black on the Grand National we’ve all come to love so
much was almost red. The 1983 Molly Sanders prototype was red and the
Buick executives changed the color to black at the last minute.
Did You Know? (con’t)
Buick did make another Grand National besides the Regal.
They made a LaSabre
Grand National. They were
rare and fun to look at but
nothing like the Regal bodies. The Grand National
badge was the same in size
and looked the same with the exception of the turbo 6 being all red instead of the two tone.
Most of the T cars we all see have the sport mirror
package but some came with chrome mirrors. It was an
option like everything else. I’ve seen them on black out
packages as well as chrome packages. Makes for a
great sleeper combo.
The Grand Nationals and T cars came with hard top, sunroof , and t tops options only...they made no convertibles
for any from the factory.
The 3.8 litre turbo emblems on the T cars
were not all the same. The trunk emblem is
all chrome and the ones on the hood scoop
are chrome with black outer border edges.
The 1984 Grand National had half leather half velour seats.
No Grand Nationals were built in 1983, but they did make T Types though.

LSPBC Show Banner
As discussed at the March meeting, the club needs a new banner to display at the shows to promote the club and
give folks a way to contact the club and know what we are all about. The new banner was to include the club logos
and club web-site. We have came up with a pretty cool design and at this time we are awaiting pricing information.
At the meeting we discussed having a $500 budget for advertising our club and this will fall into that category.
Below is the tentative design we have come up with, sizing will be approx 3ft x 15ft depending on graphics.
Hot Rod Power Tour 2008
I just want to say that the 3 state leg that we
participated in was quite an experience out
of 7 states in 7 days. We had 5 club members participate and some other friends from
other clubs that were in attendance as well.
We had a blast and really recommend that if
you drive any kind of Hot Rod that you
should do the tour at least once to experience it. Hot Rod Magazine puts on a great cruise taking all
of the rods through the back roads to the next state and city.
Beautiful scenery to make the drive that much more enjoyable for everyone to observe was purposely thought out. The
fair grounds and ball parks are the only places that can hold
that many cars and people at one time so it was pretty cool
to roll into the next city and have a massive car show waiting on you as well as you being part of the show. I’ll have
more pics and more info on the Power Tour on the next
newsletter that tells our experience in more detail for more
enjoyable reading.
Thanks
Victor
